My family has stayed at Hitz Point the past three summers and and highly recommend it. It's on the desirable west side of Deer Isle, across the cove from Deer Isle Yacht Club. The family provides kayaks for paddling around Sylvester Cove in the Mill Pond. We're bird watchers and enjoy paddling among eider ducks, scoters and gulls. At low tide you can dig clams (license costs $3) or harvest mussels (free) right off the house. We retire to the porch with drinks at sunset while the lobsters boil in the kitchen. The family uses the house a lot in July and August. We like the shoulder season: Warbler Week in May, lupins lining the roadsides in June, and the best weather of all in September. The house has a fireplace, space heaters and warm blankets and we've been comfortable in June and September. For a meal out, we recommend the Whale's Rib in Deer Isle.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: The property has been in the Hitz Family since our great- grandmother bought the land and built the house. It is well loved and taken care of by 5 family descendants.
