This was our dream home and best Hawaiian vacation!

Date of Stay: 01/21/12 Review Submitted: 03/19/12

Sit on your Lanai ( 30' long hawaiian covered porch) and enjoy your view .. spectacular crashing white water of the open ocean (throw a rock and hit the water), see your own five miles of white sandy beach which curves around a calm bay..walk there in two minutes and get lost for hours. Fishing boats pass in front of your home, we saw LOTS of whales jumping & birds flying. This home has an entire wall of (operable) sliding glass doors for a panoramic view from the professionally decorated expansive living room, master suite, bar and fabulous kitchen! Loved the view of the Island, too! Dark, cool to the touch, Koa wood floors under your bare feet are throughout the home, enhancing the real Island experience. Another beach is just three minutes to the south of this home where we saw the rare Monk Seal basking in the sun. We looked her number up online.. she might have her baby anytime soon. We saw coral, shells, scurrying hermit sand crabs, numerous shore birds, lots of big sea turtle families and schools of fish swimming in unison in crystal clear, aqua blue, water. If you are an early riser, walk out to the point and watch the sun rise over the ocean or never leave your 'home". Enjoy it all right from your deck. Nothing could have been better! This home is on the water and not on the noisy and busy main Highway. It is located on a spit of land in a safe, quiet area where just a few private, expensive homes have been built. The Lanai provides the perfect amount of protection from wind, if any, and direct sun. We lived out there and loved it! Situated just minutes from many world famous surf beaches, cocktails and dinner out at Olas, the 18 hole Turtle Bay golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and more. Find local and inexpensive food shacks nearby (the owners provide a great list!), tour the Polynesian Cultural Center (10 minutes), don't miss the easy hike up Waimea Canyon to the waterfall and lake. Enjoy the large granite kitchen. A shopping center with a good grocery store is 2 minutes away. Separate breezeway for reading/ naps in comfortable chairs that make into even more beds is delightful... or sleep out on the lanai and hear the crashing waves and feel the island breezes! Palms sway in the breeze. While there, it rained only at night, making the days beautiful and fresh. The 80 degree temp, as we understand is typical in this area, was perfect. The airfare is the least expensive to Oahu, making this the best vacation ever! We are going back!

Owner response:We certainly appreciate such a detailed review of our home and your adventures! We hope you do come back soon and experience more of the magic that we always experience at our island home. Mahalo! Chick & Cookie

Once You're There . . . You'll NEVER Want To Leave!

Guest: Vince, Melody, & Family (Fresno, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/23/11 Review Submitted: 07/05/11

Chick & Cookie's home is located in an excellent spot. Its close enough to Honolulu to do the "touristy" stuff and drive back to the peace and serenity of La`ie Point. If the hustle and bustle of Honolulu and Waikiki isn't for you, then drive 15 - 20 mins. north to enjoy Sunset Beach, Sharks Cove, Waimea Bay, or Laniakea Beach (to view the basking sea turtles). If you're a beginner at snorkeling, then Turtle Bay is just 10 mins. away. For more advanced then (previously mentioned) Sharks Cove or beautiful Hanauma Bay (45 mins. south) is great snorkeling and the variety of sea life is abundant (bring an underwater camera!!). For those who like to hike, there's Diamond Head or Manoa Falls. Once you're done hiking Chick & Cookie's home at La`ie Point will be waiting for you. Also within a 30 - 40 min. drive is the Dole Plantation, the pineapple soft serve ice cream is great! Speaking of food . . . during your stay, there are 3 places NOT to miss. 1) The Hukilau Cafe (delicious and VERY affordable), 2) The Kahuku Grill (awesome burgers), and 3) The Impossibles Pizza Truck . . . this truck starts the afternoon at Sunset Beach, moves on to Sharks Cove, and ends the day at Waimea Bay. The prices are reasonable and size of food portions are very generous (a slice of pizza is 1/4 of a large pizza!!). The lasagne (six cheese or sausage) is excellent. Chick & Cookie's home sleeps 7 comfortably. Grocery store (if you're staying for a week you may want to consider a trip to Costco), post office, movie theater, hardware store, and ice cream / shave ice shop are walking distance. The beach (not crowded at all) is barely 1/8 of a mile walk. In the morning, walk to the end of La`ie Point and enjoy the beautiful sunrise that begins the day. The view from the lanai is spectacular and the breeze that comes in is refreshing. The breeze and the sound of the waves in the evening is so relaxing and soothing that you'll have no problem falling asleep. Chick & Cookie, your home made our first Hawaiian vacation a fun and memorable one. It was very hard to leave and hope to go back in the near future. Thank you for welcoming us into your slice of paradise! Vince, Melody, Samantha, Vanessa, JT, John, Heather, and Henrik.

Owner response:Wow, thank you so much for your excellent review! Looks like you had a busy stay and discovered some of the magic of the island. A pleasure having you. We get great pleasure out of sharing our little slice of heaven. Please do come again. We'll "keep the light on" for you. Aloha & Mahalo! Chick & Cookie

Truly Paradise!

Guest: Tropical Vacationers (Lansing, KS)
Date of Stay: 12/25/10 Review Submitted: 01/17/11

If you're looking for a "get away from it all" vacation home, this is the place for you! Chick & Cookie's Hawaii House is paradise found! The tropical breezes, sounds of the ocean waves and the breathtaking views from the lanai whisked our family away to true relaxation. The home is extremely comfortable & well appointed. No comparison to a small, stuffy hotel room in Waikiki! So, forget about the traffic and craziness of the tourists' Hawaii & come to the real Hawaii -- North Shore! PS: Make sure to visit Ted's Bakery -- awesome treats!

Owner response: We are so glad you enjoyed it! We work hard to make our home your "home away". Please come back soon! Mahalo! Chick & Cookie

Aloha Chick & CookieWhat a great place! We had many meals on the lanai. Breakfast will never be the same. The views from your beautiful & comfortable home are amazing. We thank you so much for allowing us to stay here. 9 days was just not enough.30 to 40 ft. wave on Christmas day were unbelievable. The rest of the time the surf was amazing. We were beat up a bit but the beaches were full of activity. Waimea was great for body surfing & body boarding although the huge waves beat us down to size a number of times. The beach to the left of the lanai was great for long walks and the sand was fine & compact.P.C.C was a great show…loved the Samoan presentation…a real funny & informative show.Saw sharks of the Haleiwa coast and that was a once in a lifetime experience. A great half day tour.Hanauma Bay and Shark’s Cove were great. Saw lots of sea life.Turtles were abundant at Haleiwa Surf Beach. Saw at least a dozen in just ½ hour.Yummy treats at Ted’s Bakery. The Glazers…like a donut were fresh and delicious.Parasail and Jet Ski at Wikiki was another fun activity although we should all have taken a good dose of Dramamine cuz the seas were rough. All and all a great vacation for the 7 of us. My family thanks you so much. The Arbuckles

Chick and Cookie Thank you for your "Hawaiian Hospitality"!Your island retreat was comfortable and beautiful. As a family we came from California to visit our Hawaiian family to come together for a one year memorial celebration of my father's passing. Together, we have so many incredible memories of him and our past vacations here...in fact we stayed one minute away from our last family vacation with him! As always we enjoyed our favorites of... Keneke's in Waimanalo for plate lunch (so ono!), Ling Hing Mui Pineapple, listening to live local music (Maunalua at Duke's Waikiki of Fridays!), Ted's Bakery Pies, the Swap Meet, and Ko'Olina Lagoons. We also discovered the Artis Family in Haleiwa- what amazing talent, passion, and artistic ability! Again, MAHALO! very much for making your home so comfortable! Our time spent here was relaxing and reminiscent of memories with Dad. Love, Barbara, Alison, Tim, Daniel, Cambria, Tiffany, and Nick The Family of Andrew Duran

Great extended vacation House

Guest: Tglau (Heber City, Utah)
Date of Stay: 09/11/09 Review Submitted: 02/07/10

What a beautiful house and location. My first impression was to lay out a mattress on the lanai and sleep out there...the sound of the ocean and night time breezes seemed so romantic. A large master bedroom with walk in bath. Two smaller bedrooms and a bathroom off of the combination kitchen and living room. Fully stocked kitchen with bar stools around the kitchen island and a patio table on the lanai. A nice touch is glassed in area around the patio table to break the breeze while eating. I happen to get around in a wheelchair and was able to use the house although not specifically built for access. The upstairs neighbor gave us the combo to the garage and going through the garage there was a small 1/4 step up. I did find the bed mattress a bit old and hard and the bedrooms got hot at night...no A/C...but ceiling fans helped with the windows open. After a few days though we acclimatized though. The long very narrow driveway was a major problem and only one person in our party dared negotiating it when backing out. We finally opened the garage door to turn the car around. All in all it was a great trip and I would love to stay here again.

We have stayed at Chick and Cookie’s home 2 times and love it. The view from the house and lanai is spectacular. Great view of Goat Island that you can walk to during low tide. Loved sitting on the lanai and watching all the kite surfers. There is a private beach 1 block away. Some great golf on the north shore, Koolau and Turtle Bay. Also a couple of fun hiking trails 5 minutes away in Haalua. The house is very comfortable and professionally decorated to give it that Aloha feeling. It is furnished with everything you need from internet to baroque. We only eat out once during the week. Don’t waste your time in Wakiki get to the north shore and relax.

6/2010) We just spent 2 weeks here with our whole family (8 of us ages 6 years-63 years) and never had a harsh word to say to each other, what does that tell you! The location for exploring the island is great and we did that. But we ended up so happy just walking to the beach we could see to the left of the house and just hanging out on the lanai, reading, eating, playing games and sleeping while the beautiful Pacific graced us with it's beauty and hypnotic sound. It must be one of the most beautiful views in the world! The house is very comfortable and filled with the feeling of aloha...I'd recommend this home to all my family & friends!

Dear Chick & Cookie,The stay in the house was chillin!Haleiwa’s Grass Skirt Grill was awesome & Flavor Maina’s Italian water ice was very yum! I learned to boogie-body board at the Hukilau although the waves were a bit rough & I got stung by a jellyfish. The showers of rain are very soothing! From the outside shower to the lanai’s view of Goat Island & ocean we love all Oahu’s got to offer. My first snorkeling trip.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. Surf was definately up on N. Shore while we were her but we still had many quiet, calm snorkling opportunities, too. Grandpa had served at Schofield Barracks in '57 & had always wanted to bring his family here some day. Thank you Grandpa! Listening to "Iz" Hawaiian music throughout the adventure adds a nice touch. Some of the highlights: Paradise air-powered hangliding from Dillingham & flying over this Laie Pt & over all N-shore beaches...seeeing whales

Aloha Well, the second time was better than the first! Thank you so much!. I am so lucky to work for 2 wonderful people, but even luckier to call you friends. Skip & I never had a honeymoon so what a better place to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Thank you Cookie for the suggestion of going to the west side of the island. For anyone that likes to whale watch, now is the time to be here. They have put on such a spectacular show. I think Skip wants to make this a yearly visit ( and yes he did look at the help wanted pages). I guess my friend Debbie will have to come on her own. Mahalo Skip & Debbie

Dear Chick & Cookie How I wish we could have met you. Your house is beautiful & tastefully decorated. We had a great time & really felt comfortable in your home. We enjoyed cooking fresh shrimp in the spacious kitchen & making tropical drinks in the blender. There is so much to see & do that 1 week is not enough to explore the island. I recommend to anyone to get reef shoes so the feet are protected from sharp coral & rocks when swimming. Also, the north shore was exciting with large waves coming in. Also sun screen is a must for pasty white skin. Our journey is one we will remember forever. Every day was a new adventure. Oh, & the map is helpful when driving as the freeways & streets are hard to figure out. Lots of traffic at times 7 crazy drivers. Cheap alcohol was nice. Very friendly people here. Thanks for everything. Now we go home to Saskatchewan, Canada to our winter of -30C (look that up in F)BBBrrrrr...Snow, cold, ice, you guys have NO IDEA how lucky you are! Waimea Bay- Excellent Beach! All sand, no sharp rocks. Cheap jumbo shrimp at Chinatown $4.50- $&.00 per pound. Don't get shrimp at trucks on highway- RIP OFF! Go to Chinatown market. Fresh & cheap! This is our first family trip together in Hawaii & what a great place to spend it (at your house). Everything was great & hope to do it again! Took alot of great sightseeing tours & loved them all! Thanks for everything, Dave, Evilyn, Hollie,David Jr.,Mike Jodie, & Josh REMEMBER: EDDIE WOULD GO!! (figure that one out)

Thank you ,Chick and Cookie, so much for sharing your beautiful beach home with us. We are so glad that we chose to stay in Laie versus one of the more southern conjested areas. The children loved sleeping on the lanai and waking up to the ocean directly in front of them. We found the shrimp shacks, Ted's bakery, the turtles, Shark's Cove for snorkling and many more beautiful seaside stops and majestic mountains. If we had stayed in Honolulu, it just would not have been nearly as exciting or memorable. We did visit Pearl Harbor and most of the other great spots in Oahu, but it was really nice to come back to the beach house in the evening and relax away from the crowds. Dear Chick & Cookie Love the view. Love the sound of the surf day & NIGHT. Very soothing. You have a lovely home here. Our FAVORITE picks are the WAIMEA VALLEY AUDUBON CENTER. This is the most beautiful & hospitable places we have visited in our travels. To be able to take such an easy trail in an outdoor botanical garden & swim under a waterfall - WOW! Lovely! Lovely! Coming from the San Francisco Bay Area we have & love great fresh food with vegetarian choices even though some of us eat meat. The THAI RESTARAUNT in HALEIWA was wonderful! Serving with great courtesy some of the tastiest food ever. We loved the whole town of Haleiwa & recommend it. Such a nice drive & you can see the turtles on the way. Mahalo - Thanks you Pen, Rudy. We never rented a house before- this is the way to go! We loved sleeping outside on the lanai every night...the stars & the sound of the ocean were awesome. We hate to leave because this feels like home. Thank you for allowing us to be here for our 30th wedding anniversary. Now we are off for a week on the cruise ship around the islands. Mahalo! What a worndrful home to enjoy a family vacation! Your home was truly a place of joy, delight, & relaxation. Mornings full of rainbows, turtles & sunshine & evenings that afford beautiful sunsets & cool breezes. We loved Ted's "plate lunch" just down the road. We also stopped & got shrimp more than once (remember to bring some mint...lots of garlic). Thanks you for helping lasting memories that will remain in my heart & family for years to come. You have a beautiful house and we loved the location. Mealtimes were a highlight, sitting out on the balcony. Personally, I spent most of my time out there pinching myself to make sure that I wasn't dreaming and the view was real! There was so much space and we were all able to spread out. The shops were handy and we found it easy to get everywhere. Thanks for clearing us the extra time on the last day, however I missed the e-mail and only received it when we got home! Thanks again for allowing us to use your home, we certainly felt we saw the 'real' Oahu and have a lot of affinity now for the North Shore. We hope to return sometime soon. Mahalo John

Aloha, What can I possibly write down that would express the time we have had in your home! Words cannot express how thankful we are. This was a beautiful vacation for our family. We woke up each morning to the beautiful song of the birds & the ocean waves. The beautiful rain showers & the most amazing rainbows. Greeted by sea turtles right in front of the house & sting rays waving hello. We enjoyed Ted's Bakery! A must! The chocolate naupia pie is the best. Shrimp at the shrimp stands were sooo good! Make sure to welcome the gecko's in the house they eat the bugs! The memories that you have allowed us to create here in your home will remain a special part of our lives forever. Thanks you we hope to come back soon. Aloha!

We wanted to thank you for renting your home to us for our stay in Hawaii, it was just beautiful. The ocean view was breathtaking. The beach was great. It was everything we had hoped for & more. Every member of our family thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent there. It was especially a nice experience for my mother-in-law who had not been back to the island in 55 years. She grew up in Honolulu & lived there for 15 years. She spent parts of the summer in Laie. She couldn't get over the changes that had taken place. Thank you again. Our family wants to return in a year or two so we hope your place will still be available. I'm afraid you have spoiled us, for any lengthy hotel stays. Brook was very helpful as was Sherrill. Thanks again for everything. Sincerely, Steve, Bonnie, Jennifer, Jon,Kassie,Anna & Betty Roberts

Hi Chick & Cookie Savana told us it was awesome but words can't capture the sounds or the surf... the delecate fragrance of the flowers, the strength of the volcanic rock beneath us, and the magic of the island. Love the way you have decorated... you have incredible taste & have a great way of pulling colors & theme from room to room... it really flows. We have stretched into yoga for a week & we are gifting you with a special energetic grounding for your home. Mahalo for sharing with us. Namaste, Judy

Chick & Cookie, Debbie & I want to thank you for making it possible fo us to celebrate our 36th anniversary of being best friends & my 50th birthday in this beautiful place. You have created a little piece of paradise with all the comforts of home. We would have enjoyed staying in this house no matter where it was located. We found a great place in Haleiwa to eat- it's called the Grass Skirt, a little hole in the wall place but great fish. We also recommend making the trip to Honolulu for the Sat. Flea Market at Aloho Stadium. You can get all your souveniers at half the price. We hope we can make this an annual trip. Debbie Gettys & Debbie Wilson

Aloha! We have had a fantastic week here & want to thank you for sharing your house. We absolutely lived on the deck...mesmorized by the ocean! We appreciated you thoughtful touches- the binoculars, the Bird Book, & Michner's Hiwaii (I read 2/3 of it!) The mats allowed us to sleep comfortably on the deck & enjoy the waves & stars. And the clothesline was very handy! Our favorite snorkeling place was the public beach at Turtle Bay Resort - great fish & easy access. Mahalo, The Garretts, Carpenters & Crespi

Aloha! Your place is really great. It had tons of room & great views. Thank you for letting us stay a while. The surfing was great in Hawaii even though I didn't do too good learning it was fun to try. It was nice to get away from the cold in the states for a few days. Mahalo! Jamie Lenahan & Nate & Dylan

Aloha! Thank you for letting us use your beautiful house. It was really great. We felt at home here. It was great to be able to go to the beach every day & soak up the sun. The water is really warm. We even went out & tried to surf. It was even cooler to go to Pearl Harbor. They had alot of neat stuff there. Mahalo! The Ray Hendrix Family
