Ideally located with a westerly view on the quiet side of Hood Canal. The property provides spectacular sunsets and views of the Olympics all while enjoying the water that surrounds the home with every tide. Deep water dock provides easy access to all the water activities that Hood Canal has to offer. Located 19 miles from Belfair and directly across the canal from Hoodsport you can easily travel by water or road to the golfcourse, spa and restaurant at Alderbrook, marinas and shopping in Union and Hoodsport. Great fishing, crabbing, shrimping, clamming, oysters and beach combing are right outside your front door. Great place to just relax, while still providing day trip access to hiking in the Olympic Mountains or a ferry ride to downtown Seattle. Mountain biking and equestrian trails in the Tahuya National Forest. Really too many possible activities to list, but its safe to say that there is something for everybody to enjoy within reach of this vacation home.
About: I grew up just down the beach from this home and purchased this home in 2000. I'm currently raising my family in Oregon. We get up there when we can, but not as often as we'd like. I had the good fortune of learning the fishing from the old timers in this fishing resort community and have spent more time than I probably should of chasing the canal's salmon and searun cutthroat. I've got a fairly good feel for what works and doesn't up there. I'm always available to give helpful hints on ways to improve your luck, if fishing is your thing as well.
Why Tahuya: The home is in a community started as a logging camp in the early 1900's and then converted to a fishing resort in the 1950's. Since then, the old cabins have been converted to summer and weekend getaways with a sprinkling of homes that people use year around. The fact that it was once a fishing resort should not go unnoticed to those of you that enjoy piscatorial pursuits. Its located on the Hook of Hood Canal and the tides and currents created by that feature creates a plethora of sea life. The crabbing and shrimping directly in front of the home is fantastic. The beach is littered with oysters and, if you know what you are doing, the salmon fishing and searun cutthroat fishing is very good. Diving in the area is world class. The property has a deep water doc that is left in the water from mid May to October. The lowest tides of the year leave it sitting on the beach, but most of the time you'll be able to jump in your boat from the dock. During the winter months, we remove the doc to protect it from storms. A bouy is always available for moorage and can be accessed by beach launched or dock launched dingy.
The Unique Benefits at this House: The Northshore is the quiet side of the canal, providing an experience that is closer to what the canal felt like 50 years ago. We enjoy spectacular sunsets and a picture perfect view of Mt. Washington. Jump in your boat and be at Alderbrook Spa and resort for golf within a few minutes. Except for the lowest tides of the year, the doc provides easy access to your boat and all of the water activities for which Hood Canal is famous. The main home has two bedrooms and the apartment above the garage includes a full bathroom and works well as a separate space for kids or a second couple.
