Lost River cabin description
*Read our reviews here: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p453892vb#reviews *
We have a 2-bedroom, 1-bath cabin in Lost River, WV. It has Internet and heat (floor units). It is all on one level. It is a nice mix of local and DC weekenders. One bedroom has a queen size bed; the second bedroom has two twin beds. The living room has an IKEA sofa that folds out to a full/double.
This listing is adjacent to our other listing: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/894874 .
We have owned the cabin for seven years. We have a current Airbnb listing for our DC apartment and decided to try to rent out our WV vacation home.
The cabin has a landline but there is no cell phone reception. We have high-speed DSL Internet as well as streaming Netflix. We have a new, 39' LED tv.
We're roughly 10 miles from Wardensville, WV and roughly 30 miles from Moorefield, WV. Moorefield is a good town for Walmart, lunch, and a movie theatre and bowling alley.
Very close by are two restaurants: the Lost River Grill (5 miles away) and The Guesthouse Lost River (3.8 miles away). The former is more low-key, and the latter is a bit more upper-scale.
Trout Pond Recreation Area (about 5 minutes away by car) provides a nice lake that you can walk around (and swim in during summer), a camping area, and a playground for kids.
SECLUSION UPGRADE: If you're interested in full seclusion, we can forego renting the other unit for an additional fee. (In other words, yes, you'd be paying us to *not* rent the other side.)
The nightly price quoted here INCLUDES 6% West Virginia Lodging Tax as well as 6% Hardy County Lodging Tax.

"We had a wonderful weekend at the cabin, enjoying campfires and beautiful scenery. The cabin smells like fresh cut wood and is very spacious. We stayed there with two toddlers, three teenagers, and two adults and felt like we had more than enough room. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had everything I needed to cook full meals. The Tips and Tricks that the owners sent were invaluable. We went to lunch at the brewery they recommended and took the children to the local playground and on the hike that they recommended. The owners were very helpful and touched base with us throughout our stay to ensure that all our needs were met. We highly recommend this cabin."

[Note: This review was left by a guest who stayed in both Unit A and Unit B.] "Kelly and Jack were great hosts! We went with friends to Lost River and took advantage of both units. Using the 2 units made it easy to manage meals and fridge space for 10 ppl. We enjoyed the quick access to the nearby lake. The location was convenient to Lost River attractions as well. A beautiful destination!"

[Note: This review was left by a guest who stayed in both Unit A and Unit B.] "We rented both Unit A&B and should say we felt good we rented the right one. We were there during late July and wanted for a weekend getaway from VA. Overall the house was pretty good, it had everything (including food items in fridge which may be belonged to Kelly & family :-)) But Kelly's items would for sure help those renters who would not come prepared with food supplies to this part of WVa cos there are no very very nearby restaurants and driving in dark locating one especially with no cell network and getting lost wouldn't sound like a good idea . We actually went by Kelly's guide so we came prepared with food supplies so didn't use any of Kelly's items except for Olive Oil for Omelette :-) As per the rest of the house every room is neatly arranged, inside patio next to main hall was good to sit and eat while watching the greenery and rain(it was raining when we were there), outside patio was good to sit and read a book enjoy nature or just to have a drink with ur buds. The road to the house was at a higher ground so when we had to come to the house which is at lower ground the slope was pretty scary but once we slide its enough parking space for 4 cars easily. All the rest rooms were pretty good and as one of the previous renters mentioned one restroom has a rusted bowl. Its in perfect working condition but the rusty look is what makes it appear even bad. I would leave it up-to the owners to think of may be replacing the bowl cos its in the smaller unit and that's the only restroom on the smaller unit. Since we rented both units we left out this restroom and used the others in the bigger unit. Water flow in the shower and restroom was also a bit slow and when someone was bathing downstairs there was a very bad flow in the upstairs. We felt a bit hot inside as the units doesn't have A/c but the fans did the work once we switched everything ON. May be the hall in the bigger unit needs one more fan, lighting was sufficient, beds were comfortable not the spring type jumping ones but are better, WiFi was good, all appliances were working though we couldn't find a toaster in both units. All in all its a good place for the money."

"My family had the opportunity to stay at Jack and Kelly’s home over Memorial Day Weekend and we had an amazing time! The location of the home is exactly what we wanted, private and surrounded by nature and wildlife. We live in downtown DC so being able to drive only two hours and be completely away from it all is such a treat. The unit is just as described. The location of the home is pretty isolated and there is no cell phone coverage but the house itself is has all the conveniences you will need as well as a wireless connection so you’re not completely out of touch. Jack and Kelly provide everything for you to feel right at home. I recommend stopping in Front Royal, VA for all of your essentials as there are no convenient stores or pharmacies for a last minute purchase once you get to Lost River. The property is wonderful for a family to get away, listen to the birds or unwind after a long day hanging out at Trout Pond Recreation Center. Trout Pound is part of the Washington National Forests and it is a wonderful place to spend the day outdoors with the family. My husband is an RC enthusiast so he was able to play with his remote control boat in the lake, which he loved! It was too cold to go for a swim at the man-made beach, but the kids enjoyed walking around the lake, throwing pebbles and just being outdoors. There is also a great playground at the park where they spent hours jumping around and having fun. Overall we had a really fun, relaxing weekend outside of the city and can’t wait to go back!"

"Situated within the Lost River community, we were surrounded by quietude, serenity and all the beauty of nature. This cabin is a perfect weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of DC. Kelly and his husband ensure that the cabin is a home away from home; Kelly was wonderful to work with in setting up this last minute get-away. The interior is simple and inviting. The porch is perfect for sitting and talking, or taking in the morning with a cup of coffee. We will definitely be back, next time to rent the whole cabin and bring friends to enjoy this rural retreat. Thanks for a wonderful weekend away."

About the owner: Hi everyone, My name is Kelly and I live in Washington, DC, with my husband and our three recently-adopted children. We live across the street from the Eastern Market Metro Station and rent out our downstairs apartment. We've been renting our DC apartment (underneath our house) since March 2012; we've begun renting our WV cabins since Jan. 2013. My husband works for the federal government, and I work for a global consulting firm supporting the federal government on sustainability issues. We have thoroughly enjoyed our weekends at our WV cabin -- and hope that you will enjoy it, too!
Why the Owner Chose Lost River:
We purchased this property as an easy get-away from DC city-life. It's just about 2 hours from DC so we usually spend 1-2 weekends per month here.
