The three words that best describe RISKY BUSINESS are... LOCATION...LOCATION...LOCATION....View the beautiful Atlantic Ocean from the deck and Living Room...
The first day the Realtor showed us this house we very nearly did not even look at it. It had been on the market for over a year and we could see why. To avoid being rude, we went in and it was just as bad inside as outside... Then we stepped out onto the deck and were inspired by the view.
Just across the street we saw what people come to the outer banks for, the Beautiful Atlantic Ocean. After coaxing my husband back to look again we bought it. We knew we had a lot of work to do on it but but we knew it could be done. It could be made into a great vacation home.
We set out to make it the kind of place that guest would enjoy and want to come back to time after time. First we got rid of most of the furniture. Upstairs we ripped out walls and the low ceilings to make a greatroom with cathedral ceilings and we added a gas fireplace using the juniper that had been part of the downstairs walls, (very nice for the evenings in the autumn which is a great time on Hatter Island).
Then we moved the kitchen and dining area to the upstairs level and we extended the top deck so that our guests could not only see the ocean but have a very nice view of the sound and other parts of the island.
Downstairs we removed walls, added on two more full bathrooms and created two Master Bedrooms. There is a full bath that can be shared by the other two bedrooms and there is a forth full bath upstairs. Then we added the furniture and decor. We were amazed at how much better it looked, but we did not stop there, we put a TV & VCR in not only the Great Room but in each bedroom we then added an extensive video library,& books & games,there is also ceiling fans in each room.
Outside we added a lockable storage room and last but certainly not least a 14 foot by 32 foot, PRIVATE POOL with FREE SOLAR HEAT and a large furnished deck and a HOT TUB...
Now doesn't that sounds inviting? If you love going to sleep and waking up listening to the lapping and occasionally roaring surf, or being able to run across the street and over the dunes to the beach, then RISKY BUSINESS is the place for you. The PRIVATE POOL and HOT TUB sounds nice too.
Perhaps you like to take the occasional day trip on your vacation. There are lots of historical sights on the Outer Banks and Hatteras Island. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest brick light house in the country, and if you dare climb to the top of it the view is awesome. There is a riding stable also in Buxton.
There are several other lighthouses on the Outer Banks also. The Lost Colony is an outdoor drama on Roanoak Island.and The Write Brothers Museum is nice to visit in Kitty Hawk. There is a small amusement park for the little ones featuring go carts and bumper boats. Water sports are abundant, fishing, swimming, surfing, kiteboarding, parasailing, etc.
From ferry rides to just walking on the beach there are THREE MORE WORDS TO DESCRIBE A STAY AT RISKY BUSINESS... NICE... VERY NICE!

I was pleasantly pleased with this home. At first glance,it is fancy as some of the other homes we've stayed in, but what it may lack in glamour, it definitely makes up for in comfort! It was tasteful and quaint, and we felt right at home as soon as we arrived. The house was well-equipped, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and the location was perfect. The kitchen is a little small if you have a large household, but there is plenty of eating space. The pool and hot tub were so relaxing, and it only took a few short steps to get to the ocean. The house was clean and organized, and the rental company was so friendly and helpful! Ideal for a small family. We would definitely rent here again! Thank you for a wonderful vacation.

We were very pleased with our week at Risky Business. The property was just as it was reflected on the web site. It is across the street from the beach but the walk was no longer than for some people that were ocean front (because of the dunes). The ocean and sound view was just a "slice" view. We had ample room for our size group and the house was clean and well maintained. While there are beds to sleep 11, I think it would be a little crowded overall for 11 people. The pool was fabulous. Loved the solar heat. Although the houses were close it was very quiet at night. The only negative was the ants in the kitchen. But they didn't eat much!!! I would stay there again and recommend this house to friends.
