What a treat!
What a treat!
We arrived at this magical spot by walking in through a garden that begs you to stay and relax. The next site is a patio that gives you a feeling of privacy and is tucked into a cottage setting. The home and art work are very special. It was a spectacular Oct. weekend that had low 80's temps and no wind on the walking distance beach. You can hear the waves on the patio and view the bay from the balcony off the living room. Inside, each space has a welcoming feel, and every amenity you could ask for. It was a romantic weekend for an anniversary celebration, but I would come come back in heart beat with family. Long walks on the expansive beach, rambling through the amazing neighborhood, and coffee on a terrace patio made this trip so memorable and relaxing. We can't wait to come again, and share a stormy weekend drinking a hot beverage sitting by a fire in one of the multiple fire places. Any and all of our needs or wants were met at this wonderful house.

House good, owners frustrating
House good, owners frustrating
The house is very nice and the owners have many personal items all around the house. Good cooking utincils, showers and beds. One of the 2 bedrooms smelled moldy. We could not get rid of the smell even leaving the windows open every day (we stayed 30 days). The owner seemed nice but when we left the owner complained about many things, for example, their expensive lights being burned out - as though we were at fault for their lights burning out. They took $200 from our security deposit and were really mean. I am sorry I left them chocolate. All in all, place nice, watch out for the owners.

Owner response: The reviewer stated through personal email "We did enjoy staying at your home and hope to do so again in a couple of years - the children will be older and hopefully more responsible." We hope they enjoyed the wine we left them and that we returned personal items left behind and items they received in the mail. Our home is unique with above average furniture, fixtures and household items. We will continue to maintain a high standard and hope our future renters will as well. To have nice things around for your vacation, we feel makes your stay more enjoyable.
This house was amazing! We have you young children and this was such an awesome house to accommodate our family. There was room for the kids to play, watch tv, and a really nice couch for the whole family to cuddle up on together. The kitchen was big and easy to use. We used the outdoor BBQ and table to create the best family outdoor dinner! The view was spectacular from the house! The store, freeway, beach, and much more were only minutes away. The beach was not over crowded and there was plenty of parking. We also visited the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, the Mystery Spot, and did some local hiking! If you have kids I recommend talking them to the local favorite of Marianne's ice cream! It was so delishish. We have a fantastic trip. This house provided everything we needed for the best family trip ever! we have already reserved the house for a romantic getaway!!

About the owner: John & I have been married for 20 years and we use our home to escape the everyday business world and relax. We love to come here and enjoy the local activities as well as to rest, read a book, take walks on the beach, or drive to Carmel Valley and visit with friends.
Why the Owner Chose Rio del Mar:
When young, our family used to vacation in Rio Del Mar area. The sand and surf was a wonderful getaway from the San Joaquin Valley hot sun.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The Spanish architecture that goes with the Monterey Area made us feel part of history with the California Spanish Culture. The view made us feel tranquil but we also like the privacy of being 3 blocks from the beach. The ocean waves and the clean air gets us away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
