My husband and I spent 6 days in the Pinturicchio apartment in Villa Nuba with another couple in the middle of March. We picked Villa Nuba after doing extensive research online about the best town to stay in for exploring Umbria. We wanted a place where we could cook some of our own meals and where we would have easy access to a washing machine to do our laundry in the middle of a longish trip, so Villa Nuba fit the bill in this respect. It did not disappoint. The location, as other readers have pointed out, is very convenient both for visiting Perugia and for accessing the highways to get to other towns in Umbria. We made day trips to Assisi, Todi, Gubbio (this one does require about an hour of nausea-inducing travelling round a mountain to get to the town, but it is worth the ride) and Lake Trasimeno during our stay there. The apartment actually looks nicer than it does in the pictures on their website. I think it has been fairly recently refurbished, everything is very clean and comfortable, and Giuseppe the owner has really made the effort to provide guests with every necessity. Beds were very comfortable though pillows were quite flat, but that seems to be commonplace in Italy. It was too cold for us to use the pool and bbq pit but we enjoyed watching the lovely sunset over Perugia from our terrace each evening - it was like having our own picture postcard view every day. Giuseppe is immensely friendly and helpful - when we arrived, he spent almost an hour with us just showing us around the flat, teaching us how to work appliances, and showing us on a map where we could go both for meals in Perugia as well as for day trips in Umbria. When the toaster caused the electricity in the flat to trip one morning, we called Giuseppe on his mobile and the problem was fixed almost immediately. He also took the toaster away in order to replace it with a new one. He is genuinely anxious to improve the villa (not that it needs much improvement I think!) and make it one of the best in its field, and he asked us for our feedback at the end of the stay and earnestly wrote down all suggestions, promising to look into them and implement them. I thought that was a fantastic attitude that more b&b/hotel owners should adopt. This is a great place to stay if you like to do your own catering on some nights (though there was plenty of excellent Italian food in the city, just a 5 minute drive from the apartment), don't mind cleaning up after yourself a bit (you can

This was my favourite part of Italy. Giuseppe is a fabulous host, Very attentive to your needs, but you have complete privacy. His tips for exploring Perugia region were spot on. The drive to Gubio is very special. Assissi , Spello , Perugia itself, just fantastic. You are in the countryside (the view from upstairs apartment is marvelous) but just a few minutes from town. You can walk to the town centre in around 15 minutes, the bus is only a few minutes way. The rooms are spacious and beautifully presented with wonderful furnishings. Great pool and unlimited internet access (my daughter loved that !) I rate this on an 11 ! Thank you Giuseppe, We will remember our very special time at Villa Nuba forever.

What a lovely place to go for a relaxing holiday. We spent a week here but could easily have stayed for weeks longer! The apartment itself was beautiful and equipped with more appliances and utensils than my own flat! The nearby supermarket and outdoor barbecue facilities at Villa Nuba were a fantastic way to enjoy locat food without having to go out. The weather was great while we were there and the salt water swimming pool was the perfect place to relax with a book and enjoy the sun. The location of Villa Nuba is brilliant - it is far enough out of the city centre to be quiet and calm yet Perugia is within easy reach as are many other Umbrian towns for day trips. Giuseppe and Elga are very welcoming and even showed us the important bits about town on our arrival such as the supermarket, where to park and eat etc. Definitely hope to go back at some point in the future - a great holiday location.

With its beautiful grounds, spectacular setting, and well appointed suites, the Villa Nuba is no ordinary vacation rental! Nestled on the side of a hill overlooking the lush countryside, but only minutes from the lovely Medieval city of Perugia, the Villa Nuba is truly a home away from home. Our two bedroom suite was spacious, comfortable, extremely clean, and very well equipped. The view from our balcony was incredible! Our charming hosts, Guissepe and Elga, were warm, welcoming and very helpful, going out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend the Villa Nuba - it exceeded my expectations

My 2 friends and I were tired after missing our connecting train to Perugia but perked up when we arrived at the front gate of the Villa Nuba and saw Giuseppe waiting for us with a big smile on his face. He made us feel at home right away and we fell in love with the Pinturrichio apartment as soon as we came through the front door. It is very large with an open living and dining area, two bedrooms, lots of windows, a spacious kitchen and bathroom and a huge balcony with a spectacular view of the Umbrian hills. The amenities provided are superb and include a welcome basket on the kitchen table, a jacuzzi tub, an in suite washing machine, a large selection of travel brochures and art guides for the local area and our own patio and table right outside our door. The grounds of the Villa Nuba are beautiful with olive and pine trees and potted flowers everywhere and the salt water pool on the property is a very welcome addition after a long day of touring. Giuseppe took us out on an orientation tour the first morning and showed us where to buy bus tickets, shop for groceries and gave us the names of good restaurants in the area. He also took us on a wine tasting trip to Montefalco and Toregiano and a day trip to the town of Gubbio. He is very knowledgeable about Perugia and was able to answer all of the questions we fired at him during out stay. Giuseppe and his wife Elga are wonderful hosts and we will definitely come back for another visit!

5 of 5 stars We arrived at Villa Nuba after some hot days in Florence, with high expectations. We were not disapponited. We stayed for one week in the Del Pinturicchio apartment, which has high standard, two nice bedrooms, nice and well equipped kitchen and a terrace with a fantastic view. We are a family with to younger kids (2 and 5 years), and the pool was very important for our stay (and Perugia was then the hottest place in Italy). The pool is very nice, with nice view. The grocery is within easy walking distance, there are also a bakery, a pizzeria and a gelateria nearby. We went with the bus - the stop is also nearby - to the historic center of Perugia. You can walk, but it is uphill and with small kids and hot weather, we thougt it would be better to go by bus (or taxi, which is cheap). And Perugia is a very nice city (shop, eat, see). Add that Giuseppe is a perfect host, and we would not hesitate to go back to Villa Nuba.

My family spent the first week of July, 2011 at the lovely Villa Nuba. We had the Pinturicchio Apartment and it was was as charming as described at the villa’s website. We travelled from Australia and after travelling for weeks and staying in hotel rooms, it was great to have a beautiful, well equipped apartment with plenty of room and a kitchen. The children cooked every night and we ate outside at our private table. The hosts (Giuseppe and Elga) are a lovely couple, that live on the property. We were greeted at the gate and then taken to our apartment where Giuseppe supplied us with a map of Umbria and as we spoke he marked his recommendations for restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets and of course gelati shops, as our daughter Bella must have gelati. As it was our first time in Umbria, Giuseppe also pointed out the towns we should visit and what we could see or do there. This was so helpful as we had no idea and we would have missed out on so much, if we had to find it ourselves. We visited Gubbio, Deruta (famous for their ceramics), Assisi, Perugia and of course the nearby Perugina Chocolate factory. Perugia is a 15- 20 minute walk from the Villa, and we were fortunate to be staying when a festival was on, so every night we could hear beautiful music and singing travel across the valley. We met and friended a couple from Manchester, who were also staying in one of the apartments. Most nights after dinner we would drink and share stories around the entertainment area of the Villa. Giuseppe and Elga would hear us and come and join in. It is so hard to leave such a wonderful, peaceful place and people who sincerely care for your hapiness, but we vowed we would return to Umbria and stay at Villa Nuba again. Thank you Giuseppe and Elga. Everyday, you live in Paradise and you unselfishly share it with strangers. If you ever visit Australia, you must visit Adelaide and be our guests.

This is a great place to stay with easy walking access to the old town as well as driving access to the motorway to tour Umbria. The villas are very comfortable, spacious and beautifully furnished and decorated. There are lovely views over the Umbrian hills from the gardens and the upper level of the property. Giuseppe is an excellent host - accessible, very friendly, excellent English and very helpful for planning trips around Umbria. There are plenty of tour guide and books in the villa. The only difficulty we had was initially finding the property after dark, but Giuseppe says he will now send more detailed instructions with booking confirmation. We look forward to returning to Villa Nuba.

Villa Nuba was our "home" away from home for a month. We used Perugia as our jumping off point for many day and over night trips. After a day of sightseeing, we always looked forward to going home to Villa Nuba. Everything that we needed was there. It was perfect for us. A short walk to the center of Perugia. But the views we had were of the country side. The best of both worlds! Giuseppe made our stay wonderful. Always ready for our questions about what we should see and do. Always ready to suggest something that we should see that we might have overlooked. This was our third trip to Italy. As good as the wine is, as good as the food is, the one thing that makes Italy for us is the people. And Giuseppe is at the top of the list. We felt so welcome at Villa Nuba. We had a wonderful trip in Italy, made better by Giuseppe !! Thank you Giuseppe !!!

My wife and I enjoyed a delightful week’s holiday at Villa Nuba in July 2010, just catching the end of the Umbria Jazz Festival. For two people, the apartment Bonfigli more than lived up to everything on the Villa Nuba website – fully equipped (incl. electric kettle), spotlessly clean and came supplied with a generous “welcome pack”. The villa overlooks a beautiful valley on the north side of the city of Perugia – a wonderful backdrop to the villa and its saltwater pool; quiet, yet so convenient for the city. Whilst being unobtrusive, our English-speaking host Giuseppe was both friendly and attentive, providing maps of the city and region. He also gave us a brief tour by car of the immediate neighbourhood, showing us the local supermarket (½ mile), “Pizza Magic”! and also handy car parking for the city. Perugia is a fabulous city, with plenty to see and do – lots of culture, history and nightlife and, compared to other Italian tourist centres, we found it to be very good value. Perugia also provides an ideal base for visiting the rest of Umbria, and a big plus factor for Villa Nuba is the easy access (to the east) to the main road network – no traffic queues! Over the years, we have enjoyed many superb holidays in Italy (Rome, Como, Versilia, Chianti, Sicily, Rovigo and Verona) and can now add Perugia to this list. Now a Bookmarked website, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Villa Nuba.

Giuseppe, the proprietor, knows how to make his guests feel at home with attentive service, friendly demeanor, and help in arranging local services (taxi, tours, etc.) and providing restaurant and entertainment suggestions. The local vendors know him well and often provide discounts or "extras." The Villa Nuba setting is gorgeous, comfortable, quiet, but well-situated just a modest walk from town. We highly recommend it.

We spent 5 nights at Villa Nuba & enjoyed it immensely. Elga & Giuseppe were wonderful hosts, nothing was a trouble to them. The villa was nicely decorated, well equipped and extremely clean & comfortable. The welcome basket of food & wine was a pleasant surprise & much appreciated. The views from our balcony were lovely as were the gardens & surrounds of the villa. We participated in the cooking class & had a marvelous meal with our hosts & their families after we had cooked delicious recipes which our families have enjoyed on our return. I would highly recommend this. The walk into the old town was a little longer than expected but the bus was very handy & ran regularly. The busy road & blocks of flats at the end of the road was a little off-putting at first but once inside the grounds of the villa you could not see or hear any traffic noise and you felt your were in the country. I would definitely recommend Villa Nuba.

Who could have known that when my wife and I picked Villa Nuba to stay on our first extended vacation in years, it would turn out to be such a perfect choice? Unspoiled Umbria itself proved a great alternative to neighboring Tuscany. If you want to experience more of the "real" Italy, this is still relatively unspoiled - that is, the landscapes, medieval walled cities, the towns and churches of places like Assissi, the food and the wine are all outstanding, but far less commercialized, far less "touristy" than Tuscany. For the independent traveler, this is a fabulous trip - and yes, the wonderful people you meet are actually native Italians, not the Americans, Brits and Germans that crowd the streets and shops of Tuscany. The owners of Villa Nuba advertise the villa as "charming," and these native Perugians have chosen the perfect English word to describe this home away from home. There are two 2-bedroom and one 1-bedroom apartments, with ample kitchens and bathrooms, furnished comfortably and interestingly with native antique furniture. The long-range view from your balcony overlooking bustling Perugia is beautiful. But by far the best part of staying at Villa Nuba is your hosts. From the moment we booked our stay to the moment of our departure, Giuseppe was extremely helpful. His English is great, so we had no trouble communicating and he not only answered every question we had - and we had many - but he proactively offered advice on where we should visit and what we should see and even recommended restaurants with great food and fair prices. He and his lovely wife and parents, all of whom live in the mainhouse in the villa, made this trip memorable, so much so we can't wait to return for more of unspoiled Umbria, charming Villa Nuba and our new friend Giuseppe. •

We usually stay in 3 or 4 star hotels - but driving into an ancient city such as Perugia is a nuisance - so staying in the outskirts is the best approach - and Villa Nuba is as confortable and more spacious than any hotel. The owners are charming and helpful. The view from our rooms were breathtaking...and we visited both Perugia and several towns in Umbria and fell in love with the whole region.

“Fantastic” Our stay in Villa Nuba was fantastic and contributed to a true Umbrian experience. Our expectations were high based upon other reviews and the website but even these were exceeded! A great balance of local charm with excellent facilities - made all the better by the excellent friendly service provided by Giuseppe for whom nothing was too much trouble. Well positioned on the edge of Perugia. We travelled with our 2 year old daughter and the apartment was ideal but equally it would suit families with older children or a group of friends travelling together. Very highly recommended. Our son was studying in Perugia and when we went to visit with other family members, we wanted more space than basic hotel rooms. The owners home, 3 apartments, and a pool are part of this well maintained, gated property. The rates are reasonable and the owner is terrific. Guiseppe is a gracious host and very helpful with everything you could possibly need during your stay. There was a welcome basket of food in the kitchen and he gave us a quick driving tour of the area. There is a wonderful bakery and grocery nearby. We walked everywhere the first 3 days and then rented a car for the rest of the week to explore the beautiful surrounding towns. The Villa Nuba is a great choice!

We (three adults who don’t speak Italian) stayed in Villa Nuba’s Pinturicchio apartment for five weeks (mid-February – late March) and enjoyed our visit very much! The apartment was comfortable and nicely furnished, the view was beautiful and it was easy to walk into Perugia or catch a bus or train to nearby towns in Umbria and Tuscany. Giuseppe was a great host who stopped by regularly to be sure everything was perfect (it was!), answered our questions and provided advice on the best restaurants, shops and places to see. We shopped for local specialties like fresh pasta and vegetables and prepared them in the apartment’s well equipped kitchen. We used our fireplace nearly every night and we all loved the deep bathtub. Since the water is heated on demand, you never run out of hot water! Since I needed to work while we were there, I used the high speed internet connection - that worked out nicely. The weather in Italy in winter can be chilly but we were glad we went then – there were very few tourists. We recommend Villa Nuba and plan to return!

Villa Nuba will not be forgotten. I travelled with my Mother, Aunt and Friend for her 65th birthday. We were greeted with a warm, familial reception. In fact, I feel like I have made friends for life! Giuseppe made everything easy. I was even able to email my kids back home every night because the villa has a computer that is available for guests. The pool, views, location, accommodation was first rate. Our apartment was clean, tasteful and because Giuseppe had thought of everything, it was easy to adjust to being so far away from home. We enjoyed visiting Assisi, Deruta, Todi as well as Perugia, with ease. There's even a shopping mall close by (Collestrada,), I felt like I lived there for our week and loved it! I will certainly go back, next time with my husband and kids, they too will be able to make great memories at Villa Nuba!

I spent a fantastic holiday in Italy with my family this August. We decided to stay in Perugia for five days because the position of the city is perfect to visit Tuscany and Umbria alike. We had a great time at Villa Nuba where Giuseppe Nuzzaci our host was welcoming us. He is a friendly, kind and funny young Italian who gave us many ideas what to see and where to eat. Giuseppe tried the famous Hungarian hot paprika sausages with us on the first night, that made a perfect match with the Italian Grappa… The Pinturicchio Apartment was as charming as described at the villa’s website and we had a great time there. We were cokking yummy dinners in the fully equipped kitchen and even though the weather did not permit a swim in the nice pool, our children tried the jacuzzi one night… It was good all of us could check the most important e-mails in the internet room. We devoted our first day to Perugia, then visited Gubbio, Arezzo, Siena and Cortona. Our guide book was the favourite Hungarian book of the family, Antal Szerb's Journey by Moonlight. In the book written in the 30s. The childhood friend of the protagonist became a monk in Gubbio in the monastery up on the hill, attached to the Basilica of St. Ubaldo. Thanks to Giuseppe we took the Funivia (cable car) to go up to the basilica, from where we so the most amazing view of the city and the scenery around. After 35 years we also went back to Arezzo, a dear town for us. In 1972 our Hungarian choir participated in the Concorso Polifonico and won two prizes in Arezzo. It was an exceptional feeling to show the places where we had sang decades earlier to our children. In Siena, we had great Italian coffee on the Campo and were lucky to see the marble mosaic floor of the Cathedral, since the floor is only uncovered for two months a year. On our way back from Siena we decided to go to Cortona for dinner. I had already visited this beautiful town before and took my family to the Pizzeria Fufluns where I had had good lunches and dinners 5 years ago. We not only had great bruschetti and tasteful salmone affumicato in salsa di pepe rosa, but also happened to watch the Italy-Hungary football match, sitting in the middle of a group of Italians… We were happy about the outcome… (Scusi!)We went up to Venice for two days from Perugia to finish a wonderful holiday.I can only promise to go back to Perugia again and surely stay at Villa Nuba again, because a lot of nearby towns remained unseen for us: Spoleto, A

Dear Giuseppe Just a quick note to thank you for making our stay at Villa Nuba so enjoyable. The apartment was absolutely perfect, and Bruno thinks the pool was one of the two coolest things about the holiday - the other being the Gubbio funivia. We'll be back, I'm sure.
Owner response:Many thanks for your kind words ! I hope to see you again in our salty pool in Villa Nuba in Perugia one day in the future ! A big hug to Bruno from me and all the Villa Nuba Family !!! Ciao giuseppe

Spent a perfect week at Villa Nuba in July when Italy was experiencing record temperatures and the pool was therefore an essential. Giuseppe made our holiday special, being the perfect Italian host. He greeted us on arrival, took us on a tour of the local supermarket, pizzeria and city walls and gave us some top tips about what to do/not to do. I was worried that with two teenage children (aged 16 and 14) there would not be enough to do but with the trip to the last night of the Umbrian Jazz Festival, the venicular cable cars in Gubbio, the boat trip across Lago Trasimeno, the day trip by train to Florence and of course the retail therapy in Perugia itself, they were well entertained and had a fabulous time. The apartment was ideal with good facilities and very clean. We would definitely recommend it to any one.
Owner response:Dear friends, many thsnks for your great comment! I'mso happy that your holiday in villa Nuba was nice . I hope to see you again in our swimming pool ! Ciao Giuseppe

Both my husband and I just wanted to report on our wonderful visit to Villa Nuba. We stayed in the Del Perugino apartment for the month of June and it really was a home away from home. The location was perfect - a countryside setting just a short walk from the centre of Perugia, and in close proximity to the many hill towns in Umbria. The apartments are really luxurious and every amenity has been thought of. Guiseppe and his parents are wonderful hosts and were very helpful in all aspects of our stay. We may be back! Owner response:Dear Sheila and Arno zur Linden, many thanks for your lovely words ! You are a lovely and cool couple !!!!! I hope to see you again one day in the future . Take care! Giuseppe

Myself and 3 sisters(seniors) just returned from 1 week at this apartment and it is hard to do justice to this place with words. The location was beautiful being situated on a hill overlooking all the beautiful Umbrian countryside but it is only 15 minutes walking distance from the centre of Perugia. The villa is a converted 1400's farmhouse and there are 3 separate apartments all luxuriously finished and furnished with wonderful antiques. It is spotlessly clean, has a wonderful new swimming pool and you have the use of a computer in a separate room. The thing that really impressed us was the hospitality of the host, Guiseppe and his lovely parents. Nothing was too much trouble and it absolutely made our trip. I would not hesitate to recommend del Pinturicchio to anyone - utterly fantastic. Ben Cotto Guiseppe.
Owner response:Dear Katharine, many thanks for your kind words about Villa Nuba! You and your sisters are 4 lovely Madame and i hope to see you again ! Ciao, take care and keep in contact ! Giuseppe

We send you our greetings from USA and our home in Colorado. We truly enjoyed our stay at Villa Nuba; you were a great host to us! Thank you for your concern and care. I am enclosing a picture for your website of my wife, Liz and I. By the way, we did enjoy sunshine at our stay in Bellagio on Lake Como. I think you told Liz that you would give us a free week stay if that happened right? :-) I left some underwear at our apartment. You can just keep it until we return. We wish you success, full occupancy and good health!

Dear Giuseppe, I hope this e-mail finds you well and that you enjoyed your holiday in the South! We are now well settled back after our trip,so we would like to take a moment to thank you and your family for the hospitality and kindness shown to us during our stay! We enjoyed Villa Nuba so much and found you so helpful and willing to give of your time ! Our trip to the vineyards and lunch in Montelfalco will go down in memory as one of the most enjoyable days! Also your mother and father and Carmen for all their help and kindness, please give them our kind regards! Emma and Adam both enjoyed the holiday just as much as we did, and Emma would so like to make a return visit, she talks of her visit to the chocolate factory to all her friends back here in Ireland. The cleanliness and comfort of our appartment was excellent and the pool was so nice and so clean that one could only enjoy a trip to Villa Nuba! We would like to return for at least 1 week next year if you can accomodate us. As yet we are not sure of exact dates in July that we will travel but as soon as we do we shall hopefully be able to get booked with you! Once again a most sincere thank-you for a fantasatic holiday that has gone down in memory as our best holiday ever! Should you ever wish to make a trip to Dublin/Ireland we would love to be able to assist you and show our thanks for a brilliant Villa Nuba time! All the best for now and our kindest regards to all your family, Ciao from Emma and Adam! Sean and Chris Darcy, Ireland

Angy, model for Elite agency, and Valerio model for Joy Uomo agency... they paraded for many different companies, such as Versace and Yves Saint-Laurent. They said of Villanuba: "Great hospitality, charming apartments... Villanuba's like a little heaven! We'll surely come back!"

Hi Giuseppe, Thanks again for the wonderful accommodations at Villa Nuba. We really enjoyed our trip and seeing Umbria. The apartment was great, and you are an excellent host. We really appreciated you picking us up at the train station (in S. Giovani!) and getting the rental car. I will definitely pass out your information to friends who plan a trip to Italy. Diana and I arewriting to tell you and your family how much we enjoyed our 2-week stay at yourVILLA NUBA. It was the most attractive and comfortable of all of theaccomodations we stayed in during our ten week trip to Italy and Provence. We were thoroughly impressed by the beauty of the villa and itshillside setting as well as the view from the windows. We were equallyimpressed by the inside of the apartment del Bonfigli. We don't recallever staying in an apartment, lodge or hotel room that had nicer furniture,décor and appointments. Every room was inviting and comfortable, and thejacuzzi bath was a special treat. What we appreciate the most, however, were your extra efforts tomake our Perugia experience easy and low-stress. We are particularlygrateful that you picked us up at the train station, but more thananything else that you helped us by negotiating such a good rental car price forus. We would have paid nearly twice as much if you hadn't helped us with thecar. Also, your suggestions as to day-trips to nearby villages made thewhole experience absolutely wonderful! Each of those villages was a gem.Again, mille grazie for all your efforts and favors. We lookforward to staying at VILLA NUBA the next time we visit Italy.Jim and Diana Kallmer

Homeowner-entered Comment: The whole time, the memory of the fun time we had in Umbria, and your beautiful apartment, and how very nice and friendly you and your family were, kept us happy the whole way. It's going to take a while before I get used to being back home. In the few hours we've been here, we've told so many people about your wonderful apartment and your generous hospitality that they all want to go. I've told everybody who has called (family and friends) to welcome me back that Perugia is the most beautiful town in Umbria, and that Umbria is the most beautiful region in Italy and its people are generous of spirit, patient and kind. Please write and let us know how you and your family and your girlfriend are doing. We hope everything goes well. Best regards and a big hug and kisses for you and yours, Aileen and Sara
