Nestled in the beautiful and lush Tesuque Valley, this classic adobe home is a perfect retreat where attention has been paid to all the details to make your stay wonderful. The spacious 3,000 square foot house is situated in the hills with lovely grounds featuring fruit trees and lilac bushes. Enter through the Mexican gates to a private haven with Zen inspired gardens and beautiful views for a relaxing sojourn.
The open concept living space includes a large living room, furnished in comfortable Western style with leather sofas, easy chairs, interesting art work, including native rugs, a wood-burning fireplace and plenty of firewood. Hidden away in a lovely antique Chinese wedding armoire is an entertainment center including a television, DVD player and stereo system with tape and CD players. This room invites solitary relaxation, intimate conversation or festive entertaining. Enjoy board games and cards at a square oak table in the adjoining sun room.
In a separate area, set off by a rustic wooden column and beams with hand carved detail, is a heavy wooden dining table, surrounded with leather chairs, seating eight to ten people in front of a bank of full-length windows. They provide an airy, sun dappled space by day, a romantic vista of twinkling lights by night.
Cooks will love the kitchen with its westward view to the mountains. Situated so that they can easily participate with family and friends in the living and dining areas, the kitchen also has an unobstructed view to the television for glimpses of a favorite show or movie while preparing dinner. Counter seating provides a perfect spot for chatting with the chef or enjoying an early morning sip of coffee, tea or cocoa.
The cabinets are stocked by people who love cooking with All-Clad, Calphalon and Le Creuset cookware. You’ll find plenty of dishes and serving pieces, mugs and bowls and glasses of all types -- including a large stock of stem ware for wine -- and Southwestern-style hammered stainless steel flatware. There's a diverse selection of cookbooks to inspire you, complete with high-altitude tips, a vintage stool perfect for a young child, and, just for fun, a popcorn popper.
A bright sun room features French doors that open to a unique redwood deck with native latillas above. There you’ll be drawn to watch splendid evening sunsets or enjoy a meal al fresco at a wrought iron table - with or without umbrella - in a beautiful landscaped garden area a few steps away on a flagstone patio. Beyond the patio, a path leads to a private hot tub and deck with another table and chairs. Have a drink, a little something to eat, relax and enjoy the view to the open sky and the surrounding hills and trees. Through french doors off the dining room step onto a charming stone patio with a hand set stone wall, beautifully landscaped for a peaceful morning retreat or quiet evening with gentle lighting under a starry sky.
On the main level is a bedroom with bath that can be closed off for privacy. It is furnished with twin beds that can be converted into a comfortable King bed using the same system found at many spas, including Canyon Ranch. The room features a ceiling fan, large windows and ample closet space. The bath has a tub and a shower as well as a full size washer and dryer.
A few steps down from the main level is the private master suite with a King bed. A Mexican armoire holds a large television, DVD and CD players. Two magnificent Havana rockers with hand caning set off the room. French doors open to beautiful gardens and a fountain to softly lull you. Marble tiles make the master bath a serene place to enjoy the large walk-in shower with spa bench. The vanity has two sinks, ample drawer space and an expansive mirror.
Upstairs are two additional bedrooms which share a charming bathroom with wrought iron details, a Mexican tin mirror and a unique tile floor. These bedrooms have ceiling fans and are also served by an evaporative cooling system (air conditioning common in Southwest dry conditions) which effectively cools the house. Each upstairs bedroom has French doors through which to step out onto a large deck, a perfect place for sunning, watching evening sunsets or enjoying the antics of hummingbirds vying for nectar from the feeders.
The smoke-free house, accessed through an electronically operated gate and a winding driveway, is off Bishop's Lodge Road. A carport offers shelter for your vehicles. Hard to believe you’re only three short and lovely miles from Santa Fe’s famous Plaza. Elegant Bishop's Lodge Resort and Spa, Santa Fe’s oldest inn, is one-half mile away, a perfect place to house overflow guests or to enjoy a meal or spa services.
Tesuque Village Market - the local grocery and dining place - is just two miles from the house. Keep an eye out for celebrities here while picking up fresh produce, pastries, take-out and wine for dinner or just stop by for lunch. Nearby is the Santa Fe Ski Basin which is perfect for great skiing. The marvelous town of Taos, with its highly rated ski slopes, is only 60 minutes away.

This is a long overdue review for our amazing stay at Casa del Sol in Santa Fe over New Years 2011! I am now researching another trip in a different part of the world and as I realize how much I am relying on travelers' reviews I wanted to be sure to let potential Santa Fe tourists know what a wonderful experience we had staying in this Santa Fe home! We are a family of seven, a mom and dad type and 5 adult age children including one married daughter with her husband. The home was perfectly suited for the seven of us. It could not have been better. My husband and I are now thinking about building our own home and we often refer to the floorplan of the Santa Fe home as it was a perfect combination of privacy and together time. We happened to be there during one of the coldest winters ever and even found ourselves snowed in so we spent much more time indoors than we expected!! So how thankful we were to be together in this beautiful home! We played board games in front of the fire, enjoyed the morning with the birds at the kitchen window, loved the views, had snowball fights in the front yard, walked to Bishops Lodge and when we could traverse the ice we ventured out into town! The home is perfectly appointed and we all loved the kitchen! It is truly amazing. I can't think of anything that was lacking. We especially loved the spacious and open area off the kitchen. I can remember sitting on the very comfortable leather sofa playing a board game with my son, daughter and son-in-law and glancing over to the dining room table to see my oldest son and husband hunkered down on their computers and my daughter doing the same at the breakfast table adjoining the den. (Great access to internet by the way!) Even though we were all doing different things we were still together in the same room! It's a magical home and one that we would recommend without reservation! We can't wait to go back!

We had four couples get together here for a very special long weekend. The house exceeded our expectations and we saw no reason to go out for dinner, lunch or anything else. The description for this property understates just how well it is prepared to provide a perfect getaway. No kidding, everything but food and drink is in this home. The photos are absolutely on target and reflect just how pristine this property is maintained. I found the owner to be very easy to work with and everything promised was delivered on time or sooner. The village market is great if you want to leave the grounds but there is really no reason to. Just get all the groceries and refreshments you want in town on your way here then stay and enjoy your time with friends and family. We will stay here again.

My husband and I headed to Santa Fe for a much needed getaway. The fact that it was Valentine's weekend was icing on the cake. The fact that we stayed in this fabulous home was over the top. The owners of this home have thought of everything. You can tell they take enormous pride in making this a wonderful home away from home for those who visit. This was our first visit to Santa Fe. However, it is certainly not the last. We are already planning to return next year and bring my sister and her husband. I cannot think of one thing that I would change about this home. The pictures are spot on. In fact, being there in person is so much better than the pictures. You could literally arrive with your clothes and toothbrush and not miss a thing. Everything is there that you could need. The decks, patio and hot tub are wonderful for viewing the spectaular location of this home. The proximity to the plaza, shopping and great restaurants is perfect. However, after sitting for a while and enjoying the property, you may find yourself not wanting to leave. That is fine as there is a kitchen fully stocked with every knife, pot and pan, dinner and glassware you could possibly need. As a couple who LOVE dining out, I had made reservations ahead of time for each evening we were to be in Santa Fe. Needless to say we ended up canceling two out of the four dinners we had planned out. The fireplace in the main living room makes for an enticing romantic evening. We did dine at a few wonderful places: Cafe Pasquals, Restaurant Martin, Tesuque Village Market and a few others for lunch, including the Cowgirl Cafe for great burgers and live music. Cafe Pasquals is an absolute must. We dined there our first evening, and it was so delicious we returned the next day for lunch. Restaurant Martin was just right on the money, as it was one of those places that just gets everything right. Tesuque Village Market, hmmmmmm, what to say. Well, do not judge a book by its cover. This little gem turned out to be fabulous. They serve the best breakfast. We ate there every morning it was so good. They also have a brick oven for terrific pizzas. The pizza won out for one of our dinners in. A good bottle of wine, pizza and the fireplace equals perfection. Once again, there are not enough good things to say about this place. We are so grateful to have experienced this home and look forward to our return. Cheers to the owners!

The house was picturesque…. We sat out in the hot tub under the stars as big snowflakes fell. Both the owner and the caretaker were very helpful and responded quickly. The location is great. We ate at the Tesuque Village Market Café about 5min away multiple times. We would for sure stay here again. There were 6 people in our party and there was plenty of room.

This was a great place to relax and reconnect with our grown children. The house was wonderfully situated; close enough to Santa Fe, but away from the hustle and bustle. It was very well stocked and comfortable with beautiful views of the sunset and valley. We hope to come again.

Just home from your wonderful home in Santa Fe. We absolutely loved it. It was even more beautiful and spacious than we expected, and it was perfect for our family. Every little detail was so well thought out, the amenities, the layout, the furnishings, even the selection of music. We really loved the area of Bishops Lodge Road and Tesuquee, which gave a local feel and a nice respite from the bustle of town. It is a very special place and I think we will surely visit again sometime. Thank you for being a part of celebrating our matriarch's 70th birthday, a memory we will never forget!

We rentend this beautiful home to host our wedding. It was absolutely fabulous! The patio out front with spectacular views was the perfect setting and the house had everything we needed for a catered affair. The house was large enough for our guests to be comfortable and the owners were wonderful to us. I would sincerely recommend this rental to everyone. Thank you for a wonderful wedding experience! We just got back from a 4 day weekend at this house celebrating my fathers 80th birthday. We really enjoyed both the house and the area. The house is very well equiped with everything that we needed and had an excellent kitchen/dining/great room area. It even had a printer that we used for boarding passes before heading back. Excellent location just north of town.
