This pleasant climate can be enjoyed while hiking, biking, or horseback riding some of the local trails, or kayaking or sailing in the local waters of Sooke Basin and beyond. Quick meals, tasty food, unique tea houses or fine dining at a Restaurant, Sooke has it all. Or pamper yourself with a day spa. The Galloping Goose multi-use trail is 1km from the house, the Galloping Goose trail is a 60 km trail from Sooke all the way into Victoria. You can bike, walk, run, hike on the Galloping Goose trail East Sooke Provincial Park is ~ 5km from the house. There are over 50 km of trails in the park taking you through coastline and forrest landscapes.
Year Purchased: 1980
Why Sooke: The house was designed by local architect Antony Burkart as a weekend house/retreat. Most of the original features remain including the unique copper leafed fire place and hand burnt/stained beams. The house is still owned by the Burkart family and has been furnished with high quality furniture and design under the influence of the grandson of Antony who is also an architect.
The Unique Benefits at this Bungalow: The house is set on a stunning waterfront property that is covered with trees and with views to the west across the Sooke Basin to the Town of Sooke. The landscaped yard includes beautiful flowers and trees as well as a fish pond with lily pads. In the summer it is possible to swim off the rocks as well as fishing and kayaking in the bay. Of course there is also lots of wildlife spotting - eagles, seals, whales, deer maybe black bears or a cougar if you are lucky.
