Orleans is home to Nauset Beach, one of the world's most lovely beaches. It sits within the Cape Cod National Seashore which stretches from Chatham north to Provincetown which is at the tip of Cape Cod. Sailing, power boating, surf fishing, surfing, kite boarding, and kayaking are all easily available. This area of Cape Cod offers an extensive web of bike trails for great cycling, jogging, roller blading or just for a leisurely stroll. The Cape Cod National Seashore, the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History and the Audubon Society all provide access to and informational exhibits about the geography and wildlife of the Atlantic Ocean and its barrier beach, inlets and wetlands, Cape Cod Bay, and Pleasant Bay. Our neighborhood is rustic and quiet which making enjoyable walking or cycling to two nearby town landings on Pleasant Bay. Bring your boat or kayak and launch it at either of these landings or at any of the other 13 landings in Orleans.
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: After summering here for 15 years, our family moved to the Cape 22 years ago from a small town outside of Detroit, MI. This is our second home here and chosen for its perfect location and lovely tranquility. Our two kids went to the local Nauset Regional Highschool. My daughter went on to Brown University and UMass Medical School and is now an MD in Ann Arbor, MI. My son went to Parsons in NYC where he still lives as an artist/designer. I am an active Cornellian and since my husband passed away three years ago, I decided it was time to retire and move back to Ann Arbor to be closer to my daughter and her husband and my one year old granddaughter. I am still planning ti live in this house whenever I can - so I hope you will cherish it as much as I do - and will enjoy it to its fullest just as I do!
Why the Owner Chose South Orleans: The Cape is a special place - full of nature to be enjoyed and beauty wherever you look. From our home you can be at your choice of famous Orleans beaches in about 5 minutes, be in historic Provincetown for a whale watching expedition in 40 minutes or drive in the other direction 40 minutes to visit Heritage Plantations or the oldest house on Cape Cod in Sandwich.
The Unique Benefits at this House: The first thing you'll notice about this house is the charming rustic nature of the neighborhood, with old oaks, and pine trees offering seclusion from the neighbors. And yet the house is SO light and bright with lots of windows out onto this lovely nature. It sits atop a hill and is only half mile from Pleasant Bay so the breezes keep it cool all summer long. If you cycle you will enjoy the neighborhood terrain with a network of quiet roads that will take you to two town landings on Pleasant Bay: 2.5 miles roundtrip to Quanset Landing and 4.5 miles roundtrip to Portanimicutt Point. If you're a gardener you will appreciate my efforts to create a perennial paradise and if you're a birder you will love that this house comes complete with birdfeeders that attract an amazing array of birds. The walls are also hung with original art - all paintings and photos are done by friends or family members - none valuable enough to steal, but all interesting enough to capture your attention.
