Sunbathe with privacy on the rooftop terrace and cool down in the newly built pool with its treetop view of the mangrove jungle. Casa Perros Afortunados (House of the Lucky Dogs) is a newly refurbished 2,500 sf private vacation rental house in the quaint fishing village of Puerto Morelos, Q.R., Mexico just 25 minutes from the Cancun airport. A short stroll to the beach or a four minute walk to the restaurants and shops around the town square. The house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms are identical master suites on the second floor, each with high quality king-sized beds, full bathrooms, and large balconies. The fully-equipped kitchen is large with peninsula seating, and includes a five burner gas stove with griddle. The second floor also features a Media Room with a 47 inch LCD TV with Dish satellite service, DVD / VHS player, an VOIP telephone for free calls to the USA or Canada, and new comfortable lounge seating. The third bedroom, on the main floor, has two twin beds, large windows, a 42 inch plasma TV, and an adjacent full bath. A covered patio overlooks the rear garden and includes an outdoor ping pong table. Enjoy sunsets over the jungle from the pool or the new covered terrace rooftop lounge with Moroccan lighting and wet bar. Stairs up from the roof lead to a large new observation deck, with a stunning 360 degree view. Watch the waves break over the coral reef or the jungle birds over the mangroves. See the sun rise from the Caribbean sea or set into the jungle. Puerto Morelos offers an amazing array of activities: dive or snorkel along the pristine coral reef (a protected national park and part of the world's second largest coral reef), sport fishing in the Caribbean, massages, biking, golfing, beautiful underground cenotes with crystal clear water, or short drives to shopping and nightlife in Cancun or Playa del Carmen.

My get-away to Puerto Morelos and Cassa Perros with my sister could not have been better. The place was spotless and well appointed. The huge air conditioned bedrooms with private bathrooms, the media room, and the kitchen were wonderful, but truthfully only used minimally, because we spent every waking moment on the gorgeous roof-top patio. Even on the hottest days, there is a lovely breeze on the roof. A quick dip in the roof-top pool before a siesta in the lounge chairs or hammock was the ultimate. And the location is perfect - it is a couple of blocks to the beach and few minutes to the town centre. I will never do an all-inclusive again! This place was perfect and I can’t wait to come back with the rest of my family.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

I live in Puerto Morelos and am often looking for a place for friends coming from the Great White North. This is my first choice to book. Two of my girlfriends from Canada just came for a quick week. Thier days started with coffee and breeze on the rooftop deck and ended with a refreshing dip in the private pool before bed. This is not a resort but a real home away from home. The house manager, Lucio, made them feel welcome and checked on them during the week. They felt part of a community. They attended a film festival on the beach, went over to the colonia to experienced real Mexico in a safe and friendly environment, snorkling with thier private guide Paz, evenings at the bars listening to live music and daytimes at UNICO beach bar where all thier daytime beach needs were taken care of by friendly staff (don't forget to order a Miami Vice). The full and comfortable kitchen didn't get much use after breakfast as Puerto Morelos has a variety of inexpensive and excellent restaurants. Hats off to Leanna and Russ for providing a great and safe alternative to the plastic version of Mexico found in the hotel zones. They even managed to learn a bit of spanish.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My wife, 2 adult sons & a significant other stayed at Casa Perros Afortunados for 2 weeks. We found the villa to be just as expected from the description and pictures. It was well laid out, had lots of living space, clean, modern with all the ameneties and everything you would need. The media room with Wifi & free calling to North America came in real handy. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well. Dealing with the owners and their on site staff was a pleasure. A couple of minor details, a mini fridge on the rooftop lounge would be handy so as not to have go up & down the stairs for every cold drink & the ice-maker was ice cube trays. Ther are many attractions, restaurants, beach, scuba & snorkel within walking distance. We were never at a loss for something to do. All in all a wonderful vacation in an excellent vacation rental. We would go back again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Claus, thanks for being great guests and for your suggestion to add the mini-fridge on the roof. This summer we are going to make some additional improvements to the roof terrace area which will include a built-in fridge under an extension to the bar. So glad you loved the house. When you return next time it will be even better.

I just wanted to let you know that we had a great time at your house. Your house is an AWESOME house to rent! We played ping pong, we hung out in the back yard when barbecuing, we used the roof top every day, throughout the day. Loved the roof top pool! The beds were comfortable and the house as a whole was very usable and had a friendly, laid back vibe. Thank you so much for everything! Cordel, myself and both of our parents had a wonderful time. What a great way to spend a holiday!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My family stayed in this house for over two weeks and it was a great experience. The house is beautifully equipped with a full kitchen. The block is a few minutes away, stores and services are handy, and we liked the feel of staying in a truly Mexican town. The beds are comfortable, all linens and towels were top grade, just a really luxurious setting. The roof top is a stunning spot equipped with capacity to play music and sit in the pool. Rent this house, you won't regret it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

Everything about this spacious house is as close to perfect as you can get. You're close enough to the beach without tracking in sand, and close to the town square, shops, restaurants and fishing boats. The house is a recent renovation, decorated in a tasteful combination of San Francisco and Mexican influences, and with all the comforts of home. It is immaculately clean and well maintained. Russ and Leanna have a real understanding of what one needs while on holiday in a hot, sunny climate. We spent time in a shaded lounge area on the rooftop deck, sunning on deck chairs and in the hammock, cooling off in the pool. If connectivity is a priority there is a media room with TV, wireless and an internet phone. The kitchen is fully-equipped, like visiting the home of a friend who just left for the weekend, leaving behind condiments in the fridge and dishes in the cupboard - all of which would have been most welcome if we had prepared meals in the house; in fact we never so much as turned on the stove, though we did use the coffee maker. We slept well in a king sized bed with a five star hotel-quality mattress and bedding. The neighbouring chickens and dogs...well, this is Mexico. Porto Morelos has a surprising variety of excellent little restaurants, and we ate somewhere different every night - Mexican, Argentinian, Uruguayan, you name it. You can't go wrong with the fish. There are no high rise hotels, although we met some tourists with plastic bracelets who had escaped from one of the enormous all-inclusives a half-mile away. The beach is spectacular, with fine white sand and warm blue water. Next time we visit, I'd like to return with 2 more couples. Casa Lucky Dogs is a real gem, and excellent value besides.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Though only 15 miles south of the bustle of Cancun, Puerto Morelos is a small town island of calm and charm in a heavily touristed area. The home is about three blocks from the small town square and the white sands beach with easy access to good restaurants and take-away. The two master suites on the second floor and the bedroom on the first floor next to another bathroom make the home ideal for families or small groups. The large well-appointed kitchen is great for cooking and dining-in and the decor is richly colorful and comfortable throughout. The listing is accurate and the photos provided are just what it looks like. Soft breezes seem to blow through every room and if relaxation is the goal, this place provides it. We highly recommend giving it a try. We'll be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2012
About the owner: My wife and I relocated to the Yucatan in 2010 from San Francisco, CA. We purchased a 200 year old Spanish colonial home in the historic central district of Merida. While out exploring the peninsula's Mayan ruins, cenotes, and beautiful Caribbean waters for snorkeling we came upon the wonderful and lovely seaside town of Puerto Morelos. We fell in love immediately and bought a 2nd home. After several months of updating and renovations we are ready to invite renters to come discover the beauty, tranquility, and adventure of an authentic Mexican experience in this charming fishing village.
Why the Owner Chose Puerto Morelos:
When searching for our vacation home on the Mayan Riviera, we considered both what we wanted in the location, as well as what we did NOT want. Of course we needed walking access to the beautiful blue Caribbean water. We also wanted easy access to the Cancun Airport to make it an easy trip for visitors. We wanted an authentic Mexican experience, where you know you're in Mexico, and not surrounded by predictable glass and steel high-rise resorts that could be on a beach anywhere. We wanted a small location with the colorful and interesting experience of having locals as neighbors. Where we could easily walk to cool cafes, restaurants, diving and snorkeling, and local Mayan markets.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We found all that and more in Puerto Morelos. A seaside fishing village perched between a stunning reef-protected beach and mangrove jungle, both beautiful features that prevent excessive growth of the town. Yet it's just a 25 minute drive to the Cancun international airport. We soon realized we did not want one of the many condos on the beach. For us, sharing a community pool with nosy strangers and their sometimes less than charming kids wasn't our idea of a tropical paradise. So with privacy as a main objective, we chose a recently built two story house a block and a half off the beach, and just two blocks to the shops and restaurants around the main square. Close enough to stroll easily to either, yet set just far enough away for privacy. Then to enhance the experience, we built up the top of the house, adding a rooftop observation deck with our own large terrace and pool for complete privacy and a 360 degree view that includes the ocean reef, the lighthouse, the coco palm treetops and the mangrove jungle. Inside, we have upgraded the decor, kitchen, WiFi, music systems, etc. to provide modern luxuries. We are proud of what we have accomplished. We love our time here and invite you to enjoy it as well.
