Year Purchased: 1968
About the owner: My siblings and I grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts and spend part of every summer vacation at our cottage in York Beach. We all still live in the New England area. We love York Beach and enjoy seeing the next generations become enthralled with it as well.
Why the Owner Chose York Beach:
My family and I have spent every summer up at our cottage by the sea since we were young children. My father's family had been coming up to York Beach for generations to enjoy the beaches and the other myriad of things one can experience when spending summer vacations in a beach town. In fact, many of our cousins also own homes in the area.
There's nothing like walking down to the beach everyday of summer vacation and not returning home until the day was over. We swam and surfed, got 'treats' on the beach, played at the playground right at the edge of the beach and dug in the sand. Oh, the sandcastles we built!
When we got older, we all worked at The Goldenrod, a local ice cream, candy store, and restaurant in 'downtown' York Beach. Now, the next generation enjoys their time at our sweet little family cottage.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Early on, we made the decision to enclose and screen in the 24 x 8 front porch. It was a good decision as we spent a huge amount of time on that porch outside but screened-in, eating dinner, talking, laughing, reading, playing board games, making up our own games, and people watching, of course! Since our cottage is located within walking distance of the beach and the town, we would greet our neighbors from the end of the street as they made their way down to town.
