This was a very special get away for our 25th Wedding anniversary. The location is wonderful. So quite with beautiful sunrise views to start the day. We enjoyed our first morning so much we never left the property. We stretched out under the palms, read and napped. A great discovery for me was the fresh coconut water that the owner shared. She showed me how to punch a hole in the coconut and filter its juice into a glass. So delicious! The full kitchen set up along with fresh papaya, limes, huge avocados, kale and more, made it possible to eat so healthy and at ease. With the BQue we were able to enjoy fresh fish from Hanalei Dolphin Fish Market every night. We ate so well at much less expense than resturant eating. There was so much equipment available; snorkel, surf board, boogie boards, kaiak we were never lacking an activity. Michaelle gave us great tips for hiking and swimming locations. The outdoor shower was a great way to end the day, especially by candle light. We were always in nature at Mana Yoga in Hanalai. I enjoyed the YogAlign classes in the lovely studio within walking distance. It was very difficult to leave this special spot. I really miss waking up in the morning and hearing the palms slapping in the breeze. We are very much looking forward to returning for our next anniversery. THank you Michelle for such a magical get away!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My husband and I have stayed at this wonderful property several times. The early morning birdsong is delightful followed up by a fresh picked grapefruit. Apartment had every amenity we wanted plus the added bonus of boogie boards, umbrellas, beach chairs....even a kayak! The views are gorgeous and the beds really are comfy. It was clean. The outdoor shower was a treat. The stars at night brilliant. Owner very helpful with suggestions about where to go. Loved the hominess, even some kitties to pet. All of this adds up to truly off the beaten path vacation, Hawaii at it's peaceful best.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Away from all the hurly-burly of hotel stays, plenty of privacy and neat lodgings! I've stayed at Mana Vacation Rental several times, the first time in 1992 with my husband, then in 1999 with friends from Europe and again 2002 for a long retreat to refresh and recharge after a stressful work assignment. On that visit, I benefitted in a very personal way as I availed myself of the owner's decades of experience as a professional massage therapist and yoga instructor, combined with daily power walks on the beach and swimming in Hanalei Bay. It was a fantastic transformation for me and taught me lessons about my health and well-being that I carry to this day. Everytime I've been back, there have been new elements added to the rental, including complete refurbishments as the owner keeps her eye on the maintenance. There is just no comparison to me with other places I've stayed in the islands. The private lanai looks out over peaceful rural vistas to the central mountains and cascading waterfalls. The organic vegetable garden was available to us to pick fresh food for our meals and the fruit trees! The growing season never stops in the tropics it seems and we ate fresh grapefruits, bananas, mangos, papayas, limes when the giant avocados were in season - yum!! I have always enjoyed my stays here and will be back! I highly recommend it for its privacy, its fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, ample activity equipment freely available, complimentary laundry, and for all the tips and suggestions from the owner to visit sites and areas that many hotel visitors never learn about. Whether you come for a transformation retreat or a vacation, or a combination of the two, you will discover that Mana Vacation Rental is a singular and unique place to have a very special experience. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My wife and I would highly recommend this rental. It's tucked in the foothills of stunning mountain ranges and yet only 5 minutes from the beach. The five acres that surround the house are lush with flowers, fruit and vegetables to be enjoyed. The furnishings are super cozy and well maintained. Everything was so clean and fresh I'd be comfortable to take our newborn with us next time. Which we've already decided to do in 5 months. This place is the best deal on the North Shore. Michaelle is the owner/ manager and we found her to be extremely friendly and hospitable. We needed a coffee grinder and she just let us borrow hers for the whole trip. Boogie boards, snorkeling gear, beach towels were all available anytime we needed. We're looking forward to seeing Michaelle again and experiencing some real 'aloha'.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Saw the one previous review and I'm not sure how we stayed at the same place. The property is nestled amongst the most dramatic scenery with misty mountain waterfalls and tropical fruit trees surrounding it. The beds were comfortable and the place was clean (looked just like the photos). If we didn't wash the glasses after drinking fresh squeezed grapefruit picked in the yard, yes there would be some ants on it the next morning, who wouldn't expect that in the tropics. Personally, I thought it was awesome to have a convenient and money-saving full kitchen with stove and microwave. We loved the homey feel where we could experience the real beauty of Kauai without the commercialized fake stuff you see at the resorts. The owner was more than helpful if we needed anything and she even let us borrow surf boards, snorkels and boogey boards to try at Hanalei Beach, which was only 5 min drive down the road. It was also less than a mile from Princeville Ranch where we had a fantastic time ziplining and you could go horseback riding. I would go back to stay here again if we (hopefully) get back to Kauai again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I have stayed in this rental property at least 6 times and have enjoyed it every time. It is a wonderful place to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the mainland. The views are phenomenal and there is an abundance of fruit trees and a great veggie garden. I found the unit to be clean and tidy every time! The owner was available to answer any questions I had about the rental or the surrounding area. The amenities were as advertised. I have recommended this property to others and they have loved staying here as well. I would recommend this rental property to anyone who wants to enjoy the serenity of the north shore. It was also nice to have beach chairs, kayaks and surfboards for our use.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Our family stayed in this rental and were VERY disappointed. The entire place was dirty and full of spiders and ants. There was years of dust and spiderwebs and spiders behind the headboard which was shocking. There were spiderwebs and spiders in every corner of the floor or the ceiling, in the bathroom, kitchen, and bedrooms. The kitchen countertop was home to a colony of red ants. We also discovered a huge centipede on the kitchen floor which thankfully we killed and disposed of. I know this is the tropics, but there was an obvious problem with bugs. We spent 2 hours vacuuming and cleaning the place just to feel somewhat more comfortable staying there. Wow, maybe she should get another cleaning lady because charging a cleaning fee is an absolute insult! The pictures of the house are very misleading as they were obviously taken when she first opened. The closets were full of junk like cardboard boxes, bags, and old stuff that she dumped there. The fridge was dirty and full of expired condiments. There was black mold in the bathroom. My kids found an Advil tablet on the windowsill in their bedroom. Good thing it wasn't swallowed by a toddler! The comforter and throw pillows on the beds were dirty and the cushions on the chairs and couches were slick with grease from sunscreen. There were old dirty thrown rugs that looked like they had never been vacuumed or cleaned which clearly needed to be thrown out. There was no working phone but it was still plugged in??! Also, there is a TV, but no cable or satellite, just movies to watch. If you have kids, they will get bored very easy. The WiFi connection worked once the entire time we were there so don't count on that. She said it must have been our devices, but at the next place we stayed we had no problem. All in all, it was a dump and we were grossed out by the whole place but unfortunately she had our money so we were stuck there. The grounds outside are beautiful and there was plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables for picking. The sunsets and sunrises were very nice. She did have beach gear like chairs, boogie boards etc for her guests to use which was nice. I think she should stick to her yoga business because clearly she is not paying any attention or care to the vacation rental. There is no attention to detail obviously, nor does she seem to care! What a shame because this place could have lots of potential if she spruced it up and cleaned. What a shame!Owner response: I value the experience of my renters and am happy to answer any questions regarding this review. Unfortunately I had a new cleaning lady before these guests arrived and I had to let her go. All issues mentioned in the review have been addressed and fixed. Normally people like to have condiments in the refrigerator so that all new things do not need to be purchased. I have not had Cable TV reception for almost 30 years and the guests who come here are usually happy to be away from the tube. We have no ambient lights so the stars and moon are what most people are interested in seeing. However I do provide movies and of course there is the internet. I have the highest speed available through Hawaiian Tel and I just took my laptop to the rental and had no problem getting on anywhere so I am not sure what happened with these guests. Over the years, many families have stayed here and had the vacation of a life time. As an example, a few weeks ago, I had a family with an 8 year old and a 14 year old and they loved it here and did not want to leave to go back to Seattle. They were not bored at all. On the contrary, they were having some peak experiences here on Kauai. They played frisbee on the 5 acre grounds, had barbecues on their lanai, rode the mountain bikes, and also went surfing and body boarding with the equipment I loaned them. I have a double kayak and 2 singles and so the whole family was able to go river and ocean kayaking without spending another dime. They picked grapefruits from the tree every morning and also kale, basil, string beans and hot chili peppers from the garden. While they were here, I did postural realignment work and special breathing exercises with the 14 year old and for the first time in his whole life, his mother said his chest opened up and he had good posture. They have written me thanking me profusely for helping their son and said they want to come back as soon as possible. I have lived on Kauai for 30 years and I give helpful advice on hiking, kayaking, surfing and also where to eat and hear great entertainment. I play guitar sometimes for my guests and I know Hawaiian music and customs and I feel like I always share the aloha when people are receptive.
