- Bird's Nest is located in one of the most beautiful, private areas on the Sunshine Coast. The home faces southwest with fabulous views of beautiful sunsets and open sky. It is a perfect getaway for boaters, kayakers, or just a break from life, to rejuvenate your soul! There is a dock in front of the house on the water for you to use! If you have a kayak or canoe, you're welcome to bring it; there are many beautiful areas to explore here. There are also places to rent kayaks close by if you don't have your own. Thormandby Island has gorgeous white sand beaches and is only 10 minutes away by boat! You feel like your on a tropical island! Great place for a picnic, swimming, frisbee, bocce ball, or just relaxing in the sun! Simson Marine park is located on South Thormandby Island, and Jedediah Island is a half hour away which is a provincial park with an old Homestead to explore, complete with orchard, and sheep still inhabiting the island; a lovely day trip! Smugglers Cove is a ten minute drive away which has a resident beaver; volunteers have built wooden walkways above the flooded areas. After a lovely walk in the forest and through open marshland areas; you end up overlooking gorgeous bays and expansive ocean. Homesite Cave trails are close by which meanders around limestone caves and sinkholes, while also being situated amongst a second old growth forest and waterfall! This is an amazing area for Mountain biking as volunteers have built many trails all over the coast for you to enjoy. Easy access to the new Suncoaster trail! These are only a few gems of the area, there are so many areas to explore! We can provide more information as requested. Look forward to your arrival!...moreless

Owner response: Hi Dennis, glad you had a nice retreat from the city. This time of year is so beautiful here with the stars so bright at night while sitting in the hot tub. And the cozy wood stove, truly a relaxing getaway!
My wife and I like to getaway several times a year for a couple of days to refresh. I spend a lot of time searching for the perfect place and I found it in the Secret Cove Bird's Nest. It is located off the beaten track, down a windy road full of fantastic homes and cottages and ocean views. It is perched above a small inlet and has a great set of stairs (or an easily walked driveway) down to the dock. The air was amazing and the quiet was fantastic. We were greated by Laurie as we pulled up with a big smile and she made us feel immediately at home. Trevor had a roaring fire built for us and we felt relaxed the minute we walked in. The house was big, clean and exceptionally appointed (think Buddhist Spa) and the stereo was wonderful. We spent our time watching the sunset, listening to music, drinking wine and hot tubbing. Lots to do in the area but the home has everythign so there was no need to leave. We had a wonderful time and would recommend this place to everyone. Lots of room, lots of good Karma and it strips the stress of work and the city from you the minute you step out of your car. Our hosts were always there if we needed them but they were never imposing. We felt very well looked after but also able to feel secluded and intimate. Thanks!!! Ken and Lilla, Cloverdale BC

Owner response: Thanks so much, it was lovely to meet you both! We have really tried to create a relaxing, comfortable, cozy atmosphere. We live in a separate house on a large piece of property; which makes it helpful to facilitate our guests needs, but also very important for us to give you privacy. Hope to see you here again!
Cozy, elegant and relaxing retreat
Cozy, elegant and relaxing retreat
Secret Cove Bird's Nest is a lovely place, from the Japanese-inspired furnishings to the woodstove fireplace to the private hot tub. With three bedrooms, this home can accommodate six people easily, and each room is excellently appointed. We were just two and opted to use only one bedroom for a reduced rate (a great perk!). Laurie was fabulous. Because we visited over the holidays, she put up a few Christmas decorations including a mini tree (she asked us first if we wanted any decorations). She also gave us a special bottle of port and chocolates. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a barbecue just outside. The grounds are great, so much attention to detail and funky touches. We saw visiting hummingbirds and several other varieties of birds up there. You can go down to their dock and hang out on the little inlet. Laurie offered us use of the rowboat but the day we might have used it was too cold and wet. In summer the dock and boats (there are kayaks there, too) must be a really fun aspect of the cottage. The only minor down side was that cell reception was pretty much non-existent. However, there is wifi and who needs to be that in touch when on vacation?! There are some nice walks/hikes nearby (by car) – Smuggler Cove and Homesite Creek Trails. We also went for a drink at nearby Rockwater Resort, but mostly, we just wanted to snuggle into the cottage, build fires, take hot tubs (the robes were a really great touch), watch movies from their nice collection, read, write and play music. I highly recommend the Bird's Nest to other travellers looking for a relaxing retreat.

Owner response: Thanks so much for the review Belinda; We are so glad that you and Jon had a cozy getaway. We sure hope that you can come back some day!
My family and I had a lovely time at Secret Cove Bird's Nest. The house is spacious with 3 large bedrooms and a lovely living area with a view over the inlet. It has been decorated beautifully and has a lovely warm feel about it. We loved the cozy wood burner and the hot tub. The kitchen is very well stocked compared to some holiday houses we have visited. The area around the house is quite beautiful and we enjoyed visiting the dock and staring into the beautiful clear water. I even saw a baby seal! We tried out the row boat too but weren't much good at it! We had two kids with us aged 7 and 11 and they really enjoyed the house too. There are stairs down to the 3rd bedroom and the spa, so families with very young children should be aware of that. We spent a lot of time watching all the birds including chickadees and hummingbirds. I would love to visit in the summer and be able to fully enjoy the deck and BBQ. Laurie gave us a very warm welcome and it was nice knowing she was close if we needed her but the house is also very private and divided from her house by a big hedge. We now have a go-to place on the Sunshine coast and can't wait to return!

Best Choice on the Sunshine Coast
Best Choice on the Sunshine Coast
We chose the sunshine coast for our holiday this year because of the range of activities available for our family and it was one spot in our beautiful province we had never seen. With a teen, a tween and an avid fisherman in our family, there was something for everyone! The Secret Cove Bird's Nest suited us perfectly. There was room for everyone, Wi-Fi and DVDs for the kids, a dock to tie up the fishing boat and a wonderful yard and deck for relaxation and reading. The house was clean and organized on our arrival and the kitchen had everything we needed. We even entertained friends who were staying at Rockwater Resort. It was obvious from the start that Trevor and Laurie didn't just rent us a space, they were invested in making our holiday wonderful and relaxing from the start. Trevor was full of fishing advice and knew the local waters well. We came home with lots of snapper, lingcod and even a few spring salmon. We enjoyed local hikes (Smuggler's Cove, Skookumchuk Narrows), swam off the dock, and even rented paddleboards from the resort up the road. Sechelt has a fun farmer's market on Saturdays and we checked out the Thursday Night Market which the kids enjoyed. We would love to come back next year! And when we do, I will bring mountain bikes to enjoy the many local trails. Secret Cove's Bird Nest is the best choice on the Sunshine Coast for active people who want to explore the local area.

Owner response: Wow, thanks so much Cheryl for the lovely review! Both Trevor and I enjoyed having you and your family here; We are thrilled that everyone had a good time! Trev was glad to share his special fishing spots, and that Scott was such a successful fisherman! Look forward to seeing you again!
Can't recommend Bird's Nest highly enough! It is everything described and more, it is actually better than the photos suggest. It is beautifully decorated and very clean. We happened to have perfect weather but it would be a good place to be on a rainy day. Laurie was a perfect host. She was available for questions but didn't hover. It is quite close to hiking trails and beaches. Even though there were other vacation homes quite close, the way the house is situated it is very private surrounded by trees with lots of birds, squirrels, deer etc visiting. All in all a perfect retreat.

Owner response: Frances, thanks so much for choosing our little paradise. So glad you and your family had a lovely time to visit and relax. Hope to see you again!
We had a wonderful stay. The home has recently been renovated and everything was in great condition. It has a fantastic view and so much space. We were able to use the dock and the paddle boat, which was so nice. The hot tub was also great after a cool dip in the ocean. Laurie was very gracious and answered all of our questions. We truely enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.

A Real Gem
A Real Gem
We were looking for a weekend to relax and just getaway from it all. Our friends came across "secret coves bird nest" on VRBO and decided to give it a shot. We've stayed on the Sunshine Coast a few times now because we love the area and its pretty close from Vancouver (about and hour drive and a 50 minute ferry). When we arrived, Laurie was waiting out front with a warm welcome. She gave us the tour and explained where everything was. Perched above the rocks, the Nest was amazing! Brand new appliances, hardwood floors, large windows facing the ocean, updated washroom and a new fireplace that was all set up so all we had to do was light it (thanks Trev, and for delivering the extra wood and kindling the second night). There's two large bedrooms upstairs, and one with an on-suite bathroom. There was also another bedroom and bathroom downstairs for 2 more people, and a hottub outside under the deck. We spent a lot of time on the wrap around extended deck enjoying the view and fresh air, and the girls even did some yoga in the sun. The nest was clean...very clean...spotless, smartly decorated with paintings and creative art (i really liked the tree mirror, I want one). We're hoping to make a return visit, but next time for a week so we can bring our boat, since there's also a dock to moor a boat, and be able to explore the nearby islands and beaches. Overall, we really enjoyed our weekend. The ladies prepared gourmet meals, and the men ate and drank beer. A perfect recipe when you add good friends and good wine.

About the owner: Trev and Laurie both love this private gem on the Sunshine Coast and would love to share it with you! Laurie was born and raised on the Sunshine Coast and really enjoys the beauty, nature and sense of community on the Sunshine Coast. Trevors family has owned property in Secret Cove since the 1970's and really enjoys the outdoors and fishing in the area.
Why the Owner Chose Halfmoon Bay:
This is such a unique piece of property. You are close to the ocean and an expansive sky. Part of this property has been owned by Trevor's family since the 70's and it is so beautiful and peaceful here. When we had the opportunity to buy the rest of the property, we felt lucky to have the opportunity.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We fell in love with the expansive sky, the ocean, the wildlife, and sense of peace here. It is truly unique with no traffic noise, only boats, and sealife. When we saw a stellar sea lion playing with a salmon in the ocean in front of the house, we were captivated!
