THis is the old caretakers suite. It is a studio apartment above a 2-car garage and sleeps two or possibly a couple with a young child. It is up one flight of stairs. The apartment is located on the estate of High Hollow and shares all of the gated estates amenities, including 5 acres with a pool and nature paths leading to Fairmount Park.

The Positives: If you are looking for a super-quiet inexpensive place to stay --- this is it! The owner greeted us upon arrival, gave us a grand tour of the estate, and introduced us to the family pets (including lovable Jinx the cat). The kitchen in the studio is complete with stove, fridge, microwave, etc. There us also a huge closet. The bed is a full size. There are 2 rail stations within a mile that will take you right into Philly (appr 30-40 min, $4.50 each way) and an entrance to beautiful Fairmount Park is closeby. The Negatives: We rely heavily on the Internet and were disappointed that WIFI was only available on the patio outside the main house. Also, the lines had not been connected for cable so there was no television. There is really not a "living area" --- we mostly sat on the bed --- and the lighting ambience could be improved (there is a strong overhead light plus a gooseneck desk lamp by the bed). The stairway to the apt is quite steep with narrow steps --- it was not a problem for us but could potentially be an issue for others. There was construction workers onsite during the day --- we were gone during the days and never heard anything. In summary, our priorities in a vacation rental are 1) peace and quiet 2) safety 3) price ---- this Studio was tops in all 3 areas!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: We purchased this property late in 2008. It had been vacant for several years. We've set about the task of refurbished the home and grounds. All proceeds from rentals go directly back into the restoration efforts here at the property.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
This estate was built by famed architect George Howe in 1916. The second owners were Sam and Goldie Paley who, with their son William S Paley, started CBS Broadcasting during their residence at High Hollow. This studio is a final destination for anyone interested in architecture, but is also a great alternative to a hotel stay for anyone needing a furnished extend stay situation.
