I rented this place for my son's bachelor getaway as a gift. He invited 4 friends and his two brothers to stay at this place. Kalin and Mike(met at the place) were very nice and accommodating. They were so easy to deal with and communication with the owners exceed my expectation. Following are some my three son's comments: - address is painted on a small stick and very easy to miss. - patio lights and some random indoor lights are out. - no tv and Internet - garbage can is so tiny and you have to walk across to the other side for the big dumpster However the place is - so spacious and have plenty of sleeping area for quite a number of people. - lots of games and entertainment , pool table, darts and Crockett - location is 10 to 15 minutes from the river rafting and zip lining. While Safeway is about 20 minutes drive. - instruction to get in is easy to follow. And the hot tub truly enjoyed by these young man. This really is a weekend getaway and easy communication with the owners is the best. By the way I receive the refundable deposit in no time without having to follow up with Kalin. If ever we are in the area I would not hesitate renting this place and recommend to our friends. Oh! The rate is so reasonable..... -

Great House and Hot Tub
Great House and Hot Tub
Very nice place! The house was perfect for us and our dog. We could even have had a few more people for no extra charge! Everything was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well appointed (although there was a bit of an ant problem coming through the light socket to the right of the stove....but this is the country and you have to expect things like that in the early spring. I sprayed some insect repellent, I had with me, around the area and along the window ledges and that took care of it). The living room and dining rooms are charming and relaxing, overlooking the mountains, get ready for a stunning sunset! Two comfortable chairs and a sofa and a nice table in the dining room. Even an easel and paints are there should you feel inspired! Plenty of good movies to watch and books to read. The bedrooms are practically their own apartment (except for the twin beds in one room which are perfectly suitable for kids or adults who do not want the same bed, two of the rooms have a seating area). Very nice fenced in yard, the dog loves the cat tails growing out of the bubbly pond in front of the living room. A nice long gated driveway plenty of parking and nice neighbors (two very sweet horses across the way and a few donkeys in the neighboring yard). There was even a rooster to awaken us in the morning (albeit a pretty quiet one, we had a good laugh at the fact that it faded very quickly on the final "doo" portion of it's "cockadoodle-doo". There was even a piano, which was in need of a tune, but very playable. Oh, and did I mention the pool table and CD collection in the garage/rec room? A little hot and a work in progress, but perfect for large gatherings. Nice quiet surroundings and views of shooting stars from the hot tub and huge back deck. Good barbeque and plenty of snacks, tea, coffee, even dog food if you'd forgotten yours. It's a remote area, very close to the American River, with spectacular view of the snow-topped Sierras dozens of miles off in the distance. We'll be back for sure! Next time we're bringing a canoe or blow up boat to go on the river! In short....LOVELY!

Still gold in the Sierra foothills!
Still gold in the Sierra foothills!
My Memorial Day weekend getaway here was a true escspe from San Francisco. The sprawling land, jacuzzi, and vistas of the snow-capped Sierras set the stage for a perfectly tranquil wknd. This house is a rare gem that offers both modern ammenities (pool table, spa, all cooking/cleaning supplies) and cabin charm. The reading den was reminiscent of my grandfather's and provided another soothing option. The master berroom shower alone was worth the trip! This place will feel like home. Thank you so much. Nick

Exactly what we were looking for.......almost

First off let me say how pleasant it was to work with the owners. Quick and simple response to all emails. The house is right in the location we needed. Nice quiet and peaceful setting in rural area. Private gate to the house.. big kitchen. Wonderful. The not so wonderful things are minor but worth mentioning. The shower curtain should be cut to fit because of the unique design of the shower makes it hang on the floor or in the drain. The house is big and we rented with a possible 8 people to stay and it has a 3 cup coffee maker in the kitchen, it should have a full sized coffee maker 10-12 cup. Although I was happy with the french press, others were not. We cooked a few meals there, and the frying pans are not non-stick and really need to be. The stove is gas and the first day worked great, after that the self lighter was stuck and trying to spark to light a burner so we unplugged that. We also created some garbage, with no trash containers around. We did find one up at the barn. Our wifes thought the kitchen was not clean enough and I seen the wash cloth after it cleaned the wood block table, it was a problem. The girls spent some time getting the kitchen good enough for them to use. My wife and I had the master bedroom, bed was comfortable, the only shower in the house is through the master. Not really a problem for me. The guys spend an afternoon trying to get the tv to work, its set up for movies only. (some good movies stocked for everyone with lots of kid titles) Bottom line .....The guys thought it was OK, and the girls wanted me to complain about the cleanliness. So its just like home.

Spacious but cozy getaway
Spacious but cozy getaway
My husband and I stayed for a week over this past Thanksgiving holiday. We actually cooked an entire Thanksgiving meal at the cottage (there's a double oven)! The beds were comfortable, there was plenty of firewood- we had the fireplace in the kitchen going 24-7, and the cottage was nicely appointed. The master bedroom has an awesome stone walled shower and a hot tub out the back door. It's also conveniently located near multiple wineries and even a few breweries. By the end of our vacation, we didn't want to leave! We will definitely stay again in the future.

Year Purchased: 2012
About the owner: From the Bay Area, we moved our family of kids, dogs & horses up to the beautiful Divide in 2005. Half-way betweeen The Bay and the Slopes we found this community irresistable. For our first 6 years up here we continued to work in the East Bay as the Owners of a Walnut Creek hair studio. In early 2012 the opportunity to exchange our hair business for full time local life couldn't be passed up. Now we are busier than ever helping in the school gardens and coaching our girls teams. This really is a fabulous place to raise our girls and truely enjoy life. We love being able to offer our cottages as a comfortable, central location for visitors of the Gold Country to stay. We know you are going to enjoy it here as much as we do.
Why the Owner Chose Pilot Hill:
We found Pilot Hill on our way up to the slopes snow-boarding and fell in love with The Divide at once. Our family enjoys Nature's playgroung at its finest all year. In the heat of Summer we go swimming, canoeing, or fishing in the lakes and rivers, year round we get out on the many miles of trails with our horses or hiking and biking, and in Winter it is a short drive up to the slopes. At the end of a busy day we might go for dinner at the local Grill/Pizza where we always see others from our small community.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
With 2 cottages on this property there is much to offer. The older Country Cottage is nestled in the trees and old garden growth. This cottage has a cabin feel with wood paneling and flooring, a large country kitchen, wandering floor plan and unique bathrooms. Sit under the olive tree while you enjoy the surrounding gardens in their various stage of bloom, relax in the hot tub after your adventurous day exploring the Gold Country, play a game of pool, or snuggle up in front of a wood stove with a favorite book. The more modern Orchard Cottage offers open Mountain Views from the front room and generous sun deck. Sip your morning tea while sitting on the deck and look out over your horses in the pasture and plan your days trail adventure. Follow the garden paths to the orchard and enjoy seasonal fruit off the trees. This cottage can also use a separate entrance if you wish.
