From two appreciative guests!
We had wanted a quiet retreat to get away from our busy lives in the city and we got exactly that during our stay at Huckleberry House. There were a couple of lovely state parks within short driving distances, a community beach closeby and a hot tub that get us out of the cabin for a few hours each day, but we spent most of our three days weekend indoor...reading, meditating, having meaningful conversations with each other and taking long naps. The cabin's clean and cozy environment, the warmth of the woodstove and the comfortable bed made it all possible! Jim and Wilma's hospitality and helpfulness added another layer of wonderful experience to our stay. We couldn't stop talking about Wilma's yummy yummy huckleberry muffin treats! Thank you for a great weekend!

Owner response: We continue to be thankful for guests who realize what a quiet and restful place Huckleberry House can be. There are no requirements asked of guests; the hot tub offers quiet and relaxation especially in the cold weather; and the sounds of chickadees, an occasional woodpecker and silence are so welcome here. The glass door wood stove offers a welcome warmth in the winter as does the sun shining into the south facing windows. We are thankful.
My husband and I stayed at Huckleberry House with our two dogs for a quick weekend get-away from Seattle. Jim and Wilma were thoughtful, welcoming hosts and made us feel right at home in the cozy cabin. Wilma even baked fresh huckleberry muffins one morning during our stay! Harstine Island is a pretty secluded place but with very easy access to nearby cafes, wineries and more in the region. We'll be back!

Owner response: We thank you for your review. This year's huckleberry crop is terrific through to woods. The cooler weather brings the opportunity for a warm fire, snuggling in with a good book and an opportunity to explore forests, mountains, and beaches in the Olympic Peninsula without the summer traffic. We look forward to another visit.
My husband and I recently stayed at this cute cabin. We ended up having 3 children stay with us as well ranging in age from 9-14 years. The younger kids loved staying in the loft and the older one said the futon was very comfortable. Although the space is small it is full of anything you could ever need. Our dog loved exploring the woods and swimming down at the beach less than .5 a mile away. It was peaceful until the kids arrived at least and we had a great stay! We would definitely stay again. We loved that they provided so much information about the surrounding area and restaurants.

The cabin was very comfortable for us and our 3 year old grandson. It had everything we needed and then some. The small one loved the treehouse, swing and walking on the woods trails. Besides Harstine Island exploring, there are many good day trips within an hour. There is a bakery and 1 restaurant not too far away. We made most of our meals in, when not on outings. I hope we will have an opportunity to visit again.

Owner response: Though we live near to the cottage, we are here to welcome, offer answers to questions regarding the places to see and share the current events in the area, then leave the guests alone to experience their vacation. P.S. We can even offer a nightlight, should you want to sleep in the tree house.

We had a wonderful stay here. The cabin was neat and tidy, and stocked well for our week. The fridge is hotel room sized, so we were glad we had the cooler for extra drinks. The owners were great about letting our pups "rule the world" while we were there. It was a great way to unwind from our busy lives. We hope to return again soon. Charles & Lisa

My husband, teenage daughter and I had a delightful weekend at this cozy little cabin on Harstine Island. The owners have made charming and efficient use of a compact space -- it is immaculate, well furnished and well thought-out. Everything is very organized! We had plenty of room to stretch out and read and to play board games. I happily cooked breakfast and dinner in the kitchenette. We had a great time observing hundreds of tiny crabs and fish at the beach that is just a short walk away. We gazed at a beautiful star-filled night sky from the hot tub. But what makes this place special is the warm and gracious hospitality shown by our hosts. They could not have been kinder -- from the homemade muffins they brought to us after we arrived to them finding us down at the beach in order to say a proper goodbye. It's no wonder the cabin is as great as it is -- it's clear they have put that spirit of welcome and hospitality into every corner.

Just wanted to say thank you, again, for such a lovely stay last week. We really enjoyed your property - especially the walking trails and treehouse - and the comfort the cabin provided. Thank you for keeping it so clean and fresh, and for being affordable and friendly. We'd love to visit again!

Perfect Spot to Unwind
Perfect Spot to Unwind
This cabin is the perfect getaway for a couple or small family. My wife and I came here for our anniversary and was amazed with the location. It is surrounded by trees and is very quite. The beach is only about 200 meters away and is great for picking seashells and oysters for dinner or its great for simply walking (with shoes). The owners of the cabin are close and very nice. They are there when you need them and are great to talk to. They are very knowledgeable of the area and have a book of things to do and places to go in the cabin, which comes in very handy if you're not familiar with the area. There is just enough cell phone service to make calls when you want to, but not enough to support lots of data, which is nice to help break the reliance on technology. However, there is WiFi to supplement data service. My wife and I had a great time eating the local food, walking the beach, picnic at a local hiking trail, and doing absolutely nothing. We liked it so much we are coming back this summer with our two kids.

Had a lovely long weekend in this cute and well-appointed very clean cottage in the woods. Plenty of dishes and towels and logs for the fire. The hot tub is located in a nice little garden at the back of the owner's home but we got first dibs anytime we wanted to use it and it was secluded and private. We were greeted with a lovely basket of homemade banana blueberry walnut biscuits. The only thing I would change is the very weak WiFi.

About the owner: Jim and Wilma pictured on a day trip to Seattle by ferry. Jim and Wilma Neal (both retired). We have vacationed on Harstine Island since 1975. We bought the property and built the cabin in 1980 as a family recreation retreat. When Jim retired from IBM we built our Harstine home and expanded/renovated the cabin in 1995. We love the South Puget Sound Area for its quiet and peaceful setting in heavily wooded forests surrounded by the blue salt waters of Puget Sound. It provides easily accessible destinations for walking, hiking, birding or quiet reflection and wonderful day trips to the Olympic National Park, ocean beaches, Seattle (1-hour ferry ride), Tacoma or Olympia.
