Sand Cove Cottage offers the charm of an all-season Victorian house, built in 1900, with an addition completed in 2012. Unobstructed water views from all the south-facing rooms: large family room with Brazilian cherry floor, flat-screen TV, and gas fireplace; master bedroom with king-size bed and en suite bath with jacuzzi; queen bedroom; dining room and enclosed porch with additional eating area. Other bedrooms include a downstairs double with en suite bath and three bedrooms with twin beds. All bedrooms have ceiling fans. Comfortably sleeps 6 adults and 4-6 children. Perfect layout for two families. Newly remodeled kitchen and outdoor grill.
Sand Cove Cottage is just across the street from Sand Beach and steps from the Grindstone Neck 9-hole public golf course with water views on every hole. The cottage's scenic location overlooks Sand Cove where yachts are moored, sailboats race, bald eagles soar, seals swim, and lobster fishermen check their pots. It's a perfect spot for relaxing in Adirondack chairs on the lawn or Cape Cod deck chairs on the small front deck. The quiet location is within walking distance of the village center with its antique shops, Schoodic Visitors Center, and historic Hammond Hall, home of the Schoodic Arts Festival. August brings the popular Winter Harbor Lobster Festival complete with lobster boat races and parade. Free Island Explorer bus transportation to Acadia National Park's nearby Schoodic Point, the Schoodic Education and Resource Center, and the ferry to Bar Harbor. Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island is an hour away by car or by ferry across Frenchman’s Bay. Bicycle and kayak rentals are available locally.
The classic Downeast fishing village of Winter Harbor is at the gateway to Acadia National Park’s Schoodic section with miles of majestic rocky coast, dramatic surf, hiking trails, picnic areas, and nature center. It offers a perfect retreat from the summer crowds of Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island but is close enough for frequent day trips to take advantage of Acadia's amazing resources: climb the Beehive and other peaks, drive to the summit of Cadillac, bike the carriage roads, embark on whale watch tours, eat popovers at the Jordan Pond Teahouse, check out the surf at Thunder Hole and the shops in Bar Harbor.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1993
About the owner: We live on a farm in northwest Connecticut where we have raised our five children, now all adults. We have vacationed in Maine since our children were little. Each summer we camped on Mount Desert Island where climbing the mountains of Acadia National Park was like Disney World for the kids.
Why the Owner Chose Winter Harbor:
We found our house in Winter Harbor by chance, on a biking day trip to Schoodic Point, and immediately fell in love with the quaint fishing village. We knew it would provide the perfect retreat from the crowds on Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park in the busy summer months. Yet it was close enough for day trips to our favorite spots: hikes up Penobscot and Sargent Mountains followed by popovers and tea at Jordan Pond.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Location is everything and this house has spectacular unobstructed views of the water which at high tide comes right up to the granite boulders across the street. This historic New England house was built in 1900 and has wonderful architectural features such as high ceilings, Victorian woodwork, and tall windows giving the older part of the house its charm. We built a large addition to accommodate our family and to create comfortable and separate living spaces for two families.
