Private Homes cabin description
Picture a cozy log cabin situated in the scenic San Juan Mountains and whether its summer or winter you have the perfect Colorado vacation site! It is a serene place where you are able to enjoy the amenities of Durango Mtn Resort (Formerly Purgatory) and the historic town of Durango without the crowds and noise.
This is a real log cabin nestled in a beautiful heavily wooded area near a high mountain lake but close to Durango (20 minute drive in the summer) and 12 minutes south of Durango Mountain Resort. The cabin has three bedrooms (two with queen beds and one with a twin bed and a set of bunk beds) with cozy down comforters and comfortable mattresses) plus two baths. The downstairs queen bedroom has a flat screen T.V. and views of the woods. (Watch for deer or elk!)
There is also a T.V. in the living room as well as an IPod/
IPhone dock for playing your own music. A portable DVD player is available for your favorite movies.
In the bunk room there is an optional T.V. that while not hooked to the satellite does have a VCR to use with the library of videos in the cabin.
Sit in front of the fire or soak on the deck in the hot tub under the stars. In the summer lounge in the hammock.
Enjoy the mountain serenity while dining outside on the patio. A gas BBQ is available in summer to cook up all the fish you catch!!
A full kitchen and washer & dryer offer all the comforts of home.
A short 7-12 minute drive takes you to the Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory), home to some of the best Nordic and Alpine skiing in the Rockies. After a exhilerating day skiing or boarding, enjoy a soak under the stars in the hot tub. Sip hot chocolate in front of the wood fire, or hike down to the lake for a little ice skating on a 'classic Colorado' lake surrounded by mountains. How about a romantic sleigh ride and then cozy dinner, snowmobiling, snowshoeing or simply reading in front of the fire or soaking in the hot tub?? This winter wonderland is perfect for relaxing or enjoying winter sports.
Speaking of summer, the area comes alive with scenic chair lift rides, alpine slides, music festivals, and world class mountain biking. Look out your front windows for a wooded aspen and pine view with a backdrop of mountains. This charming cabin is surrounded by hundreds of miles of scenic hiking and biking trails where wild flowers, waterfalls, and wildlife abound.
Perhaps you would enjoy white water rafting, world class fly fishing or golfing. Or take a ride on the famous Durango Narrow Gauge Railroad to an Old Mining Town. Visit Gold Mines... Ghost Towns... 'Go Jeeping' on Incredible Mountain Passes! Or just read a good book in the hammock!!
Serenity and beauty surround you!

Colorado is Such a Great Relief..
Colorado is such a great relief from south Texas. We love the mountains and the Durango/Silverton area. Staying at your cabin made our vacation so much nicer. The location is convenient for going to many lakes, parks and tourist attractions. Thanks again from all of us.

The Cabin Was a Great Retreat..
The cabin had all the comforts of our home but with the exception of views of the mountains! We were glad to get out of the city and enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings... We appreciated Kimberly's attention and quick responses to our questions and needs. The tips offered on places to eat and go were very helpful. We fully enjoyed Handlebars restaurant in Silverton . The cave tour from Rapp's horseback riding corral was truly an adventure .. and the kids can't stop talking about it and the horses they rode. Thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful cabin
This trip to the mountains was a wonderful retreat from the busy everyday life. We enjoyed snowmobiling at Molas Pass, skiing at the resort... and many wonderful meals in Durango. We hope to make this trip again in the future and will take many memories with us as we go. Blessings to all who visit this cabin.

This cabin & location has ticked all the boxes
There is peace, quiet and tranquility and close enough to all that we wanted to do. We had a great time rafting the San Miguel River, cycling Durango Resort, visiting Mesa Verde. It was a great idea to cycle the Durango River Trail and then stop for lunch at The River Café. The San Juans are beautiful and so has been your hospitality. Thank You!

The cabin was perfect for our family of 7. The 2 bedrooms downstairs were just right for our children. Our girls enjoyed the room with 3 single beds with the log bunk beds and our boys enjoyed the room with the queen bed. The 1 bedroom upstairs with the queen bed and private bathroom was perfect for my wife and I. This layout offered plenty of privacy for us, even though we are a large family. The view from the cabin is wonderful. Each morning of our stay, I enjoyed my coffee on the deck watching the sunrise shine on the neighboring cliffs and trees. While there are neighbors in the area. they are spaced and distant enough that the cabin feels private. We appreciated having the luxuries of a washer/dryer, full kitchen, satellite TV, WiFi and good cell phone reception that is sometimes not available in the mountains. With Durango just 20 minutes down the road and Durango Mountain Resort just a few minutes up the road, we could enjoy what the town and resort had to offer during the day and return to the quiet and peaceful cabin in the evening.

Autumn in Durango
Autumn in Durango
The property was easy to find and exactly as described. Well-equipped with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a full kitchen including dishwasher and a washer dryer. Cute cabin decorating, comfortable and welcoming with dressers in each bedroom, we simply moved in and spent a wonderful week here. Especially loved the awesome log bunk beds in one of the bedrooms! Watch your toes on the beautiful granite hearth surrounding the wood burning stove! Although there are other homes nearby, some you can only see at night, so it's private and quiet. Two foursomes of deer, a group of bucks and one of does with their fawns visited every morning, providing beautiful photo ops! Hiking and biking trails right out the door, this is a great central location to enjoy Durango, Silverton, Ouray and visit the mountain roads all around including a trip to the top of Bolan pass. Stunning views of golden aspens, clear mountain creeks and waterfalls, exactly why we chose this location. Clearly a well maintained cabin! No problems while here and just a phone call away if we needed anything. Dish network provided clear TV reception, reliable cell phone service and Wi-Fi connection. Everything you need for a wonderful mountain getaway in any season!

My husband and I went on a roadtrip and visited Durango for a week to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. This log cabin's location and amenities were perfect for us, exactly what we were looking for. In fact, the cabin was even nicer than we expected, the pictures really don't do it justice. It was very clean, charming, and cozy. The nights were chilly, but the wood stove really warmed the cabin up quickly. The kitchen was spacious, and the cabin had all the conveniences and comforts of home - dishwasher, washer/dryer, satellite tv, and wireless internet. Plus comforts we don't have at home, like the hammock in the back, and the hot tub on the deck. The stars are amazing out there! The cabin is far enough from town to feel like you're in a remote location, but the drive to town is only about 20 minutes. Nearby Electra Lake was beautiful! Our dog was welcome and he really loved all the walking and hiking we did. And he was allowed to stay in the cabin unattended as long as he was in his crate, which freed us up to explore the area. We did Soaring Colorado's all-day ziplining adventure, which included a ride on the Durango & Silverton railroad. The train ride was amazing, and the ziplining was even better! A once-in-a-lifetime experience. The cabin was just a 5 minute drive to the Rockwood station for the train, which was very convenient. We also drove down to Mesa Verde to explore the ruins - really fascinating and fun. The town of Durango is a really fun westerny place with lots of great restaurants and shops to explore, and we didn't have time to see anywhere near as many as we wanted to. Diorio's has the best pizza! We stopped there for lunch (twice) and also tried some of the local microbrews there. But there's also several big resorts near the cabin, so you don't have to go all the way to town to pick up essentials or eat at a restaurant, and I understand there's lots of activities at the resorts in the summer and winter. September was the quiet season, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Kim was so friendly and helpful, if we ever make it back to Durango, we'll definitely stay here again. Highly recommended, and don't forget to sign the guest book!
