The only negative I have was parking. We knew it was tight so we managed to get there In two cars but we actually needed to be able to park three.

Larger than expected
Larger than expected
The house itself is larger than we expected, which is great when you are traveling with 10 people. We had plenty of space for all of our belongings and sleeping space. The view is beautiful. Every morning we woke to find a different type of wildlife in the backyard. We were able to see more wildlife in the backyard than we did in the mountains. The house is close to everything in town, so close our teenagers walked to town and back several times. The house is located on a quiet street that does not have high traffic. The second bathroom is small, but for a vacation rental if served its purpose. The kitchen is small and could use a little updating, don’t expect to have more than one or two people in the kitchen at once. If someone were cooking, another person trying to wash dishes and a third needed to fix a drink... someone had to step out. My biggest complaint is the living room area... the house itself is really great, however there is not enough sitting area for 8-10 people in the living/dining area. When we were all at the house together if everyone wanted to kick back and relax after a long day of adventures a few of us would have to go to our rooms and sit on our beds because of the lack of sitting space in the living room. This can be a very simple fix... by utilizing the living room space more efficiently with comfy furniture that provides seating for more people. There are other small sitting areas throughout the house that works well if you want to sit alone. We could not figure out how to work the a/c nor could we locate the air mattress, and property manger was kind enough to come to the house at 11 at night to help us. We had to call for a few other things, and he was kind and helpful every time. The house is well maintained, the master bath is large, private patio on the front and back porch were great little hang outs for us. The kids loved hiking up and down the hill behind the house. I would think most people visiting this area will spend most of their time outdoors. This house is a great deal and worth the rate charged. Yes, a few minor things could be tweaked... but nothing major. I would recommend this house.

Manager response: Thank you very much for the well considered feedback on your recent stay at Little Bear. Your comments are very helpful. We agree- the living area did need some more furnishings. And the limited working / shopping season in Estes Park made it difficult to get to the “just right” pieces that we wanted for the house- until last week. A hickory rocker and chair, along with a pine stool have now been added to the Living Room- all pieces that fit with the character of the house- and are comfortable for end of day gatherings. Re: Kitchen. We were not part of the planning process in 1964, but the architect created an efficient, well planned kitchen that adheres to the rule of “too many cooks. . .” While not readily expandable, we agree that an update to the “look” is due and is in our future plans. Until then, it is very functional, just a wee bit homely. Re: A/C. We have attached the A/C remote control to the wall (with Velcro). All you have to do is- remove the remote, point, push the button, and the A/C comes alive. Setting options should be obvious, but the operation manual is on the wall too now. Regarding the air mattress. I think this note may need to be added to the website: “Please let the property manager know if you need accessory items- like the inflatable mattresses- before you arrive, and those will be removed from the locked closet.” That will obviate the need for everyone to visit with our friendly PM. We are attempting to provide the best experience for everyone who visits. Over the past 8 months we have owned the house, we installed a new (insulated) standing seam metal roof, a tank-less continuous flow water heater, significant electrical system upgrades, expanded the parking area, created stone steps down to the back yard, new insulated operable windows, and fresh exterior stain finish, etc. We wish you to feel it is your home away from home each time you visit Estes Park, and we will continue to work to make it so.

The Best Christmas Ever
Our family stayed at the Little Bear Lodge over the Christmas/New Years vacation. We loved it! The two cozy fireplaces were fun to gather around and drink hot chocolate and play games. We loved looking out of the huge glass windows as there was always some deer or other wildlife walking by as if they were hired to put on a show for us. The view looking down at the town and out across to the Stanley Hotel is gorgeous especially with all the winter lights glowing. We also could walk to town in about 5 minutes which is a real plus especially in the summer when parking is hard to come by. It was great for our group because we had a lot of teenagers and everyone could come and go without needing a car! It feels like we were so secluded from town, yet we were so close. It is the perfect combination! The owners have done a lot to make this place comfortable and cozy and we can't wait to go back! We would definitely stay here again.

Most Fantastic Vacation Possible
My family and I stayed at the Little Bear Lodge and had one of the most fantastic vacations possible. Not only does this house have fantastic mountain views, but is in perfect walking distance to shopping and dining in Estes Park. On the back side of the house are large windows that allow for the aforementioned amazing view. Everyone morning a herd of deer walked behind the house, and our family had an mazing vantage point to watch them wander by! At night, the twinkle of downtown lights are visible but at no time did we ever feel crowded by the proximity to downtown. This house is perfect for one family, and can easily accommodate two. There are also two really cool gas fireplaces that offer a unique gathering point. This was seriously the best place to end a day of hiking or shopping and I cannot wait to go back!
