We had never been to the Oregon Coast and found this cottage to rent. The location seemed fairly central and the views from the (limited) photos looked wonderful. And it was! We were very pleasantly surprised! The cottage is probably from the 1940s, but it's extremely clean and very tight - we weathered a couple of very windy storms warm and snug with no rattling of windows or shaking of walls, we'd never have known there was a storm outside! The cottage has hardwood floors on the main level with a good-sized kitchen and lots big windows all overlooking the ocean. We loved lying in bed in the mornings watching the waves come in. The kitchen has the original white metal cabinets and the one-unit countertop-drainboard and sink! There's a modern range and refrigerator, but of course dishes get cleaned the old-fashioned way. Plenty of mis-matched pots and pans and dishes, but no other pantry supplies other than salt & pepper and sugar. There's a large kitchen table that seats 6 in front of a huge window overlooking the little picket-fenced yard and the water. Hardwood, vinyl, and tile floors with carpet upstairs in the attic, so we brought a bed for the dog who was not allowed in the bedrooms. There's a protected entry and an attached lockable shed with laundry area. The bathroom has a pink sink & tub with a turquoise Formica countertop! So cute. The 3rd bedroom upstairs is a finished attic area with low ceilings, 3 twin beds, and a little desk and window overlooking the ocean, kind of spartan up there but my 14-year-old son liked it - note that the stairs up enter through the second main-floor bedroom. The cottage is located on a sand cliff about 18' from the edge, but there's not a way from the cottage down to the water. It's about a 1/2 to 1 mile walk to the end of the road to get real beach access, but it's an easy walk and the beach is long and has lots of big interesting 'haystack' rocks for tide pools. It's quiet and lovely, lots of parking, way off the street, good elbow room between you and the neighbors, and no traffic noise at all. About a 10 minute drive to Gold Beach for groceries and gas - no services to speak of in Nesika Beach itself which is just a cluster of other beach cottages and one very overpriced general store. Cape Blanco is WELL worth the drive! Don't miss it, and about equi-distant the other direction are the California redwoods. Great stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

About the owner: We live inland but spend as much time as we can at the coast. Adult sons surf, we spend our time walking, riding our bikes on the little streets of Nesika Beach, and of course walking along the wide sand beaches and the tide pools.
