I visited over 6 months ago and I can't stop thinking about this place. This little straw bale adobe guest house was amazing! The views to the east looking at the La Plata mountains and behind looking at Mesa Verde were awesome. Our first night, there was lightning all night which was cozy from the loft sleeping area. You can see in all directions. This place was clean and met all of our needs and the owner was great to work with. There were 3 of us ladies and it was handy for visiting Mesa Verde. I now dream of building my own straw bale adobe house but of course I want those views!

This is a great place to stay! You can play hard all day hiking, skiing or biking in the mountains or exploring Mesa Verde then return and dream of your next adventure. The property was very clean, well-equipped, and the owners are very welcoming. This quiet, private space invites you to relax and rejuvenate. The view of the La Plata Mountains from the kitchen window and front door is unforgettable! Thank you for your hospitality!

A perfect place for a writer. Quiet and beautiful. I loved it. The sleeping loft offers a beautiful view of the night sky. Mornings brought a stunning view of the mountains while I made coffee. The kitchen is well stocked. I lacked for nothing. The bathroom was spacious and while it had no tub, there was a shower with good water pressure. The sitting room where I did my writing was a lovely spot with good lighting, comfy and warm. When I tired of writing, I took walks down surrounding country roads. No matter where I looked there was a stunning view. The cottage is exceptionally well maintained. The owners allowed me absolute privacy but were always available if I needed anything. I did no sightseeing while I was there because my purpose was to write, but the next time I will explore the area which is rich with interesting places and parks. And there will be a next time: I can hardly wait to return.

Luna Mesa was the perfect place for our family! The peaceful calm here gave us the presence of mind to appreciate the bird songs as we watched the way new sunlight greets the sky at dawn. Thank you for sharing this space with us.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2007

About the owner: We moved from Indianapolis, IN in 2007 in order to live a more sustainable life-style. Drawn to the magnificent Mesa Verde, we purchased the 17 acres of land which literally backs up to the National Park. How could we resist the amazing view of the Mesa and the LaPlata Mountains? We built our strawbale 600 sq.ft studio/guest house in which we lived with 3 dogs and 1 cat for the 6 months our house...also strawbale and stucco was being built. Living so close to the project, we were actively involved in the entire design and building process. The contractor, crew and we all truly enjoyed the dynamics of creating such a work of art. Our home, the studio and the land are our spiritual haven. We are grateful to be living in such beauty and history.

                      Why the Owner Chose Mancos:
We were ready to retire and leave our home in the woods northwest of Indianapolis and to live a simpler lifestyle. Friends invited us to explore southwest Colorado and when we discovered a small ad in the Mancos Times for the 17 acres of land, we knew at once we'd found our homesite. The beauty of the mountains, the magic of Mesa Verde, the cobalt blue skies and the rhythm of the west called to us. The spaciousness of the night skies, void of city lights and sounds, the vastness and diversity of the landscape embraces us and fills us with gratitude.

The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
It was a gray, windy and cold January day when we first stepped foot on the land. Yet, we intuitively knew that the long drive would curve around the hill up toward the house, that the sun would shine 360 days of the year, that the slope down from the Mesa would be just the place to nestle a strawbale house. As we stood in the wind and faced the snow covered LaPlata Mountains, we knew this would be where our dream was coming true...to live more simply and to become respectful stewards of this sacred part of Mother Earth.
