From the moment you arrive at this perfectly orchestrated San Juan Island vacation rental home, you’ll understand why guests return to this premier home year after year.
Montauk perches over the waterfront at the end of a private road. The setting is pure Northwest, with beautiful views of surrounding islands and the sea, yet there’s a flavor of weathered Cape Cod, Eastern seashore, and English garden as well. The design integrity, quality of construction, and attention to detail give evidence that this is a cherished Island vacation home. Every item is artfully chosen to complement and complete, yet there is no pretension in the effect. Montauk is simply very comfortable and very attractive.
High ceilings, painted woodwork, wide plank flooring, serene colors, soft fabrics, and splashes of bright create lovely interior spaces. There’s room for all to gather on plush overstuffed chairs and sofas in front of the fireplace; there’s another fireplace in the den where one might sneak off to read a book (there's also a queen-size sofabed in the den.) A large dining table for family meals is at one end of the living room. Guests will find meals a joy to prepare in the kitchen with a Viking range, honed granite counters, a large prep island, and breakfast nook (it’s tempting to have morning coffee on the flagstone patio as well).
The master bedroom is on the main level of the home, offering a king size bed and windowseat. The generous master bath features exceptional tilework, heated floors, dual vanities set in Carerra marble counters, soaking tub & shower. The two-story guest wing is located on the opposite side of the home. The main level of guest wing contains a laundry/mud room and two bedrooms with queen size beds and a full bathroom to share. Upstairs is a third guest room with two twin beds plus the entertainment room with a 63' flat screen TV (and queen-size sofa bed) and another full bathroom.
Outdoors, there is a large deck with furniture groupings, heaters, and BBQ. The hillside below is sculptured with exquisite gardens, flagstone steps, tree swing, and a firepit by the shore. Another path takes you to the absolutely beautiful beach where a kayak (BYO) may be launched.
Our home is cared for by a local rental manager who is on call should you need help. They will take care of making your reservation too!

Despite having grown up in the PNW, I had never been to the San Juan Islands. The entire experience was blissful. The house was more lovely in person that the photographs online depicted. The property was beautifully maintained, the setting and view was breath taking. The house itself was spotless, (everything from the linens to the furniture to the floors and dishes) and the amenities such as the wireless, stereo and TV were easy to use. The women at the property management company were perfectly helpful, accommodating and kind. We all had the most wonderful time. I am quite grateful to the home owners and Vacation Doorways for helping to make my birthday trip one of the most special vacations I have had. We spent a week here in September 2011 and renewed our vows on the deck of this gorgeous properly overlooking the water as the sun set. Laura made all the arrangements perfectly and discreetly so that it was all a total surprise. Our whole family had the most wonderful time on San Juan Isalnd and I think we managed to tick off almost all the 'must do' items in the house handbook... including picking blackberries from the front driveway for breakfast, a very special treat. Words really cannot describe this accommodation adequately, it was amazing. We are a family of two adults, two children and mother in law and we all had our own special spaces. The master bathroom was particularly appealing for a long hot soak looking out over the trees and beyond to the water. The beach was beautiful and the fire pit gave many nights of toasting s'mores and telling ghost stories! The orcas and bald eagles were incredible, not only from the boat but unexpectedly from the shores of Lime Kiln Park.
