My family and I were going to stay in Oahu may 2 and booked and paid Don for one week. He was always available for any questions we had and provided lots of info about the area and island. Unfortunately we had to cancel our stay and Don was able to quickly respond and return our full amount. Thank you for being so accommodating and we hope to stay at your place the next time we go to Oahu!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: We were so sorry to see your vacation was canceled. We look forward to seeing you as soon as you can reschedule your trip to Hawaii. Don

The owner did a great job letting us know about his favorite places to go and eat. Everything worked out well and wonderful to have the boogie boards for the kids to be able to ride a wave at the local beaches. There is also plenty of snorkeling gear but we brought our own. The house was clean and the kitchen up to date with every pot or pan you could ever need. It is in a wonderful location to get anywhere in the Island. I would strongly recommend this house as an excellent option to enjoy Oahu.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Jeff, We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and you felt at home. We look forward to seeing you next year - or sooner. Don and Maristela

Our stay in Kailua was great! What a wonderful town and perfect beaches! The vacation house was the perfect size for three adults and two teenagers. The owners were very hellful and made themselves available to us for questions. Everything was available for us, except an iron; but thats not a major setback!!. Safeway and Wholefoods was nearby for us, and we even had a Kaiser clinic for a Rx refill. I enjoyed our vacation and the convenience of the rental home to the highways and all the amenities. Definitely would come back to stay in Kailua/Kaneohe area. I must recommend Waimea Valley gardens to all visitors!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We have just returned from a 7 days stay in Oahu. We truly enjoyed our stat at this location. The house was close and convenient to all of our favorite places and we weren't far from Waikiki if that was where we wanted to spend the day!!! The property was exactly as described and even more than expected. The house itself was clean and had all the amenities that were needed for our stay. It is cute, comfortable... It pretty much has everything you need . You want to store leftovers - there's a fridge. Want to eat your leftovers - there's a microwave, but also a full kitchen if you are in the mood to cook ( and a BBQ !). Want to go to the beach - there are towels, snorkel gear, etc.Although you can't really walk to the beach, it was only a short 5-minute drive from the house and it was never crowded - plenty of parking spot. We also could have use Don's bike, but with our little one, we choose not to ( too many things to bring) Don was so friendly and helps to find activities, good beaches, grocery stores and so much more. We were really sad to leave this little piece of Heaven!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Isabelle, You were our very first guest! We loved having your new family stay with us. I hope you have as many sweet memories as we have in Kailua! Hopefully, see you next year! Don

Perfect place to stay to get away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, but still get there easily. Kailua is a great town to be in and the house has all the amenities and toys you will need to feel right at homeRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with young children.
Owner response: Jeff, We are so glad you had a great time. I know you were able to do many of the things we do when we are there - treasured hikes and snorkeling spots, restaurants, etc. and one week was not really enough. We look forward to seeing you next year! Don

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: I am Don. I spent the early years of my childhood on Bellows Beach, just around the corner from Kailua. I love it here. One unexpected benefit of sharing our home is we are so excited about Kailua and Hawaii, in general that we love for others to experience this wonderful place. Our guests have told us how sad they are to leave. We remind them that the Islands will be here for them when they return. Maristela is from Rio de Janerio and grew up on Ipanema Beach. (She is my 'Girl from Ipanema.') She was skeptical that anything could compare with Rio. The moment she stepped through the beach access onto Kailua Beach she said she knew that this is where she wanted to spend the rest of her life. It blew Ipanema Beach away. We both love the water and out of doors. Maristela is a Zumba instructor and helps our guests with what they need to have a memorable Hawaii experience. We live in Phoenix, full time due to other life commitments. Our plan is to one day, live in Kailua, Hawaii full time.
Why the Owner Chose Kailua:
Kailua has the best location in all of the Islands. It has all of the charm of a small beach town with easy access to Honolulu.
I picked this house for my own retreat. I looked at many. It had the right balance of seclusion, beach access, compactness and efficiency, airport proximity, and charm. It made it possible for us to leave on the 8AM Hawaiian Airlines flight and be on the beach by 1. Where else can you do that?
We have outfitted this house with 'the best.' The bedding is all Martha Stewart 600 thread count, the kitchen pots, pans and utensils are all Williams and Sonoma first quality.
In July, we will be hanging a very large (7'x5.5') original oil by Pat Bailey on the dining room wall. If you stay with us before then and wonder about the 3 spot lights on the wall, they are for this art we want you to enjoy.
We have tried to ensure most of what you need to have fun is provided - boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, bikes and surfboard.
