- Springhill Cabin is located in Summerhome Park(SHP). SHP is a community of summer homes developed in 1909 for families from San Francisco looking for a summer escape. Generations have enjoyed this idyllic location enjoying peaceful redwood hikes, swimming and canoeing the river, tasting the wine country and exploring the nearby Pacific Coast. It's no longer merely a summer retreat. It's a year round escape....moreless

My boyfriend and I wanted to get away for a relaxing weekend, and Springhill Cabin was the perfect spot! When we arrived we immediately fell in love with the place. It was very cozy and comfortable and private enough. Let me make this easy by running through a list of the highlights: The gas grill is conveniently located just outside the kitchen where you can assist the chef by passing things through the windows. The kitchen itself is well equipped and has a very cute design The couch is super comfy The directions left for the tv/cable/audio equipment were VERY detailed and helpful The main deck leads to a hot tub surrounded by a ring of redwoods---very relaxing to lay your head back and stare at the canopy above There is a firepit near the hot tub (bring firewood) There are lounge chairs on the same deck, as well as a table and chairs where we enjoyed all our meals outside The pillows on the bed are AMAZING! Seriously...we need to buy those exact pillows. The beach is a very short walk, and you can go swimming in the river! (There is also a place to rent kayaks/canoes just a couple of miles down the road) All of that being said, I would recommend this for anyone who wants a little getaway where you can relax. However, if you are someone who wants absolute silience all hours of the day, and privacy to the point where you will not see or hear people...the summer months at this cabin might not be your best bet. I found the landscaping and trees made it feel private enough, but we could still hear people partying and buzzing around (note- EVERYONE was respectful of neighbors, and noise was only during the day or very early evening). If you are not a complete recluse, this place will be great for you! I know that we will definitely be back!!! Thanks for letting us enjoy this awesome cabin!

Perfect "home" away from home!
Perfect "home" away from home!
What a wonderful cabin! Felt like "home" as soon as we walked though the door. Even included a complimentary bottle of wine=) Very cozy with beautiful furniture and decor. You could spend hours in the window seat reading a good book or just napping. Wifi worked great and our Verizon cells worked great too. Bed was very comfortable and the kitchen is stocked. The hot tub under the redwoods was warmed up for us and was so relaxing. Enjoyed a nice fire in the outdoor fire pit too. Close to many great wineries and Healdsburg. Skydiving about 30 minutes away through NorCal skydiving. Safeway groceries about 10 minutes away. I would caution that the cabin is in a neighborhood so you are not completely isolated. Landscaping keeps it pretty private though. Great location whether you want to stay in and relax or check out all Russian River Valley has to offer. Paul and Lyn were wonderful to work with and were very prompt and polite! Perfect place for a romantic getaway or anniversary.

Owner response: Kathryn, Thanks for the kind review. We are glad you had a nice weekend for the 2 of you. Yes, Summer Home Park is an old (1905) resort under the Redwoods at the end of the road on the far side of the river so there are neighbors vacationing here. Next time we hope you can get to the great beach to enjoy swimming, reading, or just hanging out getting a tan. Our best to you! Paul & Lyn
Relaxing weekend getaway
Relaxing weekend getaway
The Springhill cabin was a nice treat for my boyfriend's birthday. It is very well appointed with a great kitchen with all the essentials for cooking, nice furnishings, a hot tub surrounded by redwoods, and special touches like bath salts and bath bombs to be used in the beautiful claw-foot bath tub. It was very hot when we were there so we relaxed on the lounge chairs on the deck and used the hot tub at night when it cooled down. It's a few minutes car ride from Guerneville, and a few minutes further to the Armstrong Redwoods State National Reserve, which is a gorgeous place to hike. I'm sure there are loads of things to do on the Russian River but it was just too hot when we were there! This was my first time to the area and my only surprise was that the cabins are sort of in a neighborhood. You're certainly not on top of one another (like the houses in SF) but as opposed to somewhere like Big Sur where you're very secluded, the cabins in this area are not quite as private. That said, I felt that our stay was very peaceful and we certainly had the space to ourselves.

The Springhill cabin was amazing! This was such an awesome place to get away on vacation and enjoy the forest and some of the local wine. The cabin had everything we needed and felt like home the moment we walked in the door. I would highly recommend this cabin to any couples looking to escape!

We chose the perfect place for our 20-year wedding anniversary getaway. Springhill Cabin allowed us to indulge our love of the outdoors without sacrificing comfort. We returned every day from our excursions into the forest and along the coast, to enjoy a perfectly appointed kitchen and hot tub under the redwoods. From the quiet, soft bed to the reading nook in a bay window, everything about the cabin enticed us to stay in all day. But we were tempted out by a spa in Occidental, Michelin-starred dining in Forestville, hiking in Armstrong Redwoods State Park, and dungeness crab sandwiches and the harbor seal rookery on the coast. The cabin was turnkey-ready and the logistics were easy; all we needed to bring was food and we were good to go. It is hard to overstate the charm of this vintage cabin with its modern conveniences; you really have to experience it for yourself.

Long-Time Guests and Always Satisfied
Long-Time Guests and Always Satisfied
My wife and I have stayed at this incredibly rejuvenating, historic, spotlessly clean, and restful cabin six times since 2003. Both the previous owners and the new owners are absolutely committed to your relaxation and comfort. When you arrive at the cabin to find a note saying "nothing is off limits to you", you immediately know that you are in a place where any stressors that you left at home will remain there. All of the descriptions about the property listed on this page are correct and the photos reflect exactly what you will find in this redwoods retreat. The owners reply quickly to all questions. Since we live in the middle of bustling San Francisco, our tendency is to become "hermits" at the cabin, bringing all of our own food and enjoying our meals outside on the sunny deck while watching the birds in the tall redwoods and marveling at the almost total absence of noise. However, within a short driving distance of the property are all sorts of adventures tied to wine, kayaking, hiking, and antiquating. If you decide not to venture out, as we do, you can take nice walks around the neighborhood or along the edges of the Russian River which is a one-minute walk away. We will certainly be back, and THANK YOU to the owners for their unconditional generosity, promptness in replies, and for providing us a place where busy urbanites like us can "reboot" and reconnect with nature and each other.

Where is Springhill Cottage?? Found with the directions given by the owner! Hidden in the deep woods, up a grand flight of stairs we found a Quiet, unassuming cottage..until we got in the door. It's spaciousness and gracious attention to detail was apparent from the fresh flowers, the spot light on lush reads to share as we snuggled into the comfy couch, a kitchen and barbeque I'd love to entertain from, a bedroom suite worth enjoying til noon, and the most flattering mirror I have ever stared into. What activities would I recommend? Watching the moon rise at midnight through the trees of the fairy ring from the hot tub. The deck doubles the space of the cottage and provides a beautiful area to sit, practice yoga, hot tub or enjoy a fire. Share the profound quiet outside with a loved on. Enjoy a fantastic concert (on stereo or Paladium) from the depth of pillowed sofa after finishing the bottle of wine together. Serve dinner on one huge plate. When we finally decided to explore we found Wine country provides so many tasting houses, great restaurants, quaint towns to shop and natural settings to hike, bike, paddle or swim through. We enjoyed Korbel Champagne Cellars, Boon Restaurant and Mom's Pies on the way to Occidental for shopping, Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve is nearby for hiking, and Johnson Beach for Kayaking (in summer). In two or three days you can feel like you've had a week away. We did. Ahhh.

About the owner: We are two nurses working hard and enjoying all that Northern California has to offer. We've lived in the Bay Area the last couple of decades sharing weekend explorations and meals with family and friends in the midst of the wonderful mix of cultures and physical beauty that is California.
Why the Owner Chose Summerhome Park:
For years we've thrived by enjoying the great outdoors of Northern California - from the parks near our home in Oakland, to the trails of Yosemite, to beach hikes along the Pacific Ocean. In time we settled on looking for our own vacation property in the Guerneville area as it is in the middle of much that we hold dear in life on the West Coast of Paradise. Over the last few years our real estate agent was patient enough to show us dozens of homes but none caught our desires till we saw Springhill Cabin. Here we can have no ambition, sit and read, write, drink wine and cook some great meals. Or we can decide to walk down to the river for a swim, or we can up our ambitions to drive to the ocean and climb a hill to watch the whales. Armstrong Redwood State Park provides great hikes. We can be wine tasting or antiquing in minutes, enjoy an exquisite dinner in unpretentious restaurants....and then head home to Springhill Cabin. How could we not want to have you enjoy this, too.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
This is a Craftsman cabin with redwood paneling, a comfy reading nook/window seat with views into the trees. There is a hot tub under a Redwood fairy ring. A four minute walk takes you to our private community beach. The fully equipped kitchen rocks with an O'Keefe & Merritt gas stove, great butcher block and bright windows. There is a large gas grill outside the kitchen door. The bathroom has a claw foot tub and towel warmer. Oh, did we mention the air? It could not be any fresher than here. Convenient accommodations for wine country events, biking and triathalons, music festivals.
