SUNSET INN - YOSEMITE GUEST CABINS... "Cozy Comfort for Yosemite Travelers."
Located just two miles from Yosemite, Sunset Inn is tucked away on a lush, private, meadow, far from the crowds, yet in close proximity to all the natural wonders of Yosemite National Park.
Three charming, cabins are situated on the edge of the meadow, within an ancient forest, at 4,500 feet elevation, surrounded by huge, aromatic pines, fresh air, and star studded nights. A true mountain get-away.
LARKSPUR CABIN & SUGAR PINE CABIN
Two charming 'couples cabins' are each attractively designed in a studio layout. The interiors of both unique cabins are done in the "Craftsman Style" of custom woodworking. Each cabin is complete with a king or queen size bed, well-equipped kitchen, private bathroom with shower, fan cooling in summer, or cozy wood burning stove (firewood is provided) in winter, and inviting sun porch. These lovely cabins are set on the edge of the surrounding forest. A roll-away bed, or a twin futon are available for an additional guest.
MEADOW LARK FAMILY CABIN
This studio cabin is also handsomely done in the "Craftsman Style" of fine woodworking. It is arranged with a queen bed in the main room, and a double and single bed in the other, a well equipped kitchen and dining area, bathroom with shower, fan cooling or propane heating, including a gas parlor stove where you can watch the fire. Meadow Lark Cabin is situated over looking our lovely meadow with a roomy sun porch; ideal to take in those sunsets for which we are so aptly named. This comfortable cabin will accommodate up to five guests.
AMENITIES
Beautiful quilts adorn the beds; fresh towels and soap provided for each guest. Kitchens in all three cabins are well equipped with a four burner stove top, toaster oven or range oven, coffee maker, and refrigerator, along with pots, pans, dishes, utensils, even dish soap, as well as coffee and tea for you to prepare as you like.
Each cabin has a table or counter with chairs or bar stools and either an easy chair or a rocker. For entertainment, aside from the great out doors, your cabin is outfitted with playing cards, board games and puzzles as well as books, magazines and local literature, including park information.
Each cabin has a charcoal barbecue grill. A picnic table is available in our idyllic meadow, along with a swing, sand box, fort, frog pond, and farm yard chickens, for outdoor enjoyment.

Why the Owner Chose Groveland
In 1976 Bill Nickell and Lauren Bauman arranged to rent one of the rustic cabins of this old stage stop, were married, and shortly had the good fortune of purchasing the property. While raising our children, many years were spent upgrading and improving the property.
We reestablished Sunset Inn in 1998, and have since thoroughly enjoyed welcoming guests from all over the world to this unique spot.
Sunset Inn has become our home and our heart. The beauty, the tranquility and the peace only found in nature have inspired us to be totally dedicated to our incredible home. Knowing what a wondrous place this is, we thoroughly enjoy sharing it with others.

Easy access to Yosemite

This cabin is a few minutes from the entrance to Yosemite and just off the main highway. The cabin is well-equipped for cooking in and relaxing on the porch after a log day of sight-seeing. It's "rustic" but in a good way! Everything was clean, including the linens, towels, bathroom, etc. This is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Yosemite Valley but still have great access to all parts of the Park. When we made our reservation, our hosts sent an email with information on where to get gas and groceries in the area as well as explicit directions which were easy to follow. I highly recommend the Sunset Inn.

If you want a quiet, cozy, and comfortable setting to rest your head after a long-day's hike exploring the sheer granite rock walls and Giant Sequoias of Yosemite National Park -- this is the spot for you!! The owners of the property have done a beautiful job of establishing and maintaining three lovely cabins at the Sunset Inn. We stayed in the Larkspur Cabin and were pleasantly surprised not only by the stunning setting surrounding the cabin, but by the cabin itself. The Larkspur is a well-built, cozy log cabin and loaded with those small amenities that makes it feel like a home-away-from-home. Truly!! This little gem includes plush towels in the bathroom; good water pressure (and hot) in the shower; sharp knives in the drawers; reliable & good quality cookware; a small efficient wood burning stove; and a very comfortable king size bed with crisp, clean bedding. The small patio outside was especially charming -- made from local stone and complete with your own personal grill for cooking out. What really topped it off was the generous hospitality of our hosts -- offering to come in and tidy up the cabin mid-week if we wanted, delivering clean bedding and towels without having to ask, and providing ample suggestions of where to hike, dine and recreate during our stay by providing us with a very well-written local guidebook. Although I have traveled to the Yosemite area multiple times before, my husband had not. And as we were packing up and preparing to leave, he made it abundantly clear that not only that he wanted to return and explore further the magnificence of Yosemite and the High Sierras, but that he wanted to stay at the Larkspur and would not settle for staying anywhere else. What could I say but agree with him fully. This place is truly a rare gem and so conveniently located to the Park's entrance at Big Oak Flat. If hiking in Yosemite isn't your thing, you can head off in multiple directions in the surrounding Stanislaus National Forest and explore the trails there and camp out for a night or two, or head into nearby Groveland and explore this quaint mountain village. Groveland has a charm all its own and you'll want to make sure to take in a meal at the historic Groveland Hotel -- truly memorable. Considering myself to be a fairly seasoned traveler, this place sticks out in my mind. The pinnacle of delight came when greeted at dawn each morning by the crowing of a rooster and greeted each evening by two friendly dogs upon day's end.

We have apreciated that it was a small place with only 3 others cabins. It was like a real little farm with hens and small garden. Inside the cabin il was very pretty, cosy and everything for preparing a good cooking.

We have spend two nights at the sugar pine cabin and really loved it! It is perfectly located two miles from the big oak entrance of Yosemite and a 45 minutes drive to Yosemite Valley. The area is beautiful, the cabin is very comfortable and cosy, especially with the wood burning stove, and the peace and quite are very nice. The only negative thing I can think of is that we didn't have time for a longer stay.
