Our lake home features a rustic mountain decor, high speed wireless Internet, billiards room, 2 large covered porches in addition to a lakeside deck, fire pit, and private dock. Our two kayaks, canoe, and fish/ski boat or pontoon (included in rental during summer season) equipped with life jackets, ski ropes, and pull tubes are included with our home and will save you hundreds in rental fees. New this year, we also have a 4 stroke jet ski that is available for rent during your lake vacation.
This is our family lake home, not a sterile rental unit. It is furnished and appointed like you would expect a home to be. The beds all have pillow top mattresses with quilted comforters. You will find our fishing poles and tackle boxes right where we left them for you to use.
Most homes on Lake Nantahala have 75 to over 100 steps down a steep bank to the lake. Our home has a very gradual path of about 70 feet with five steps from the dock to the lower porch. Every summer we have guests who have stayed on the Lake somewhere else with many steps. Be sure to ask how many steps to the lake before you rent.
Our lakeside deck is the perfect place to relax and watch the children swim and roast marshmellows at night in the firepit area. Our home has central heat and air, because it is located at over 3000 foot of elevation you rarely need the air conditioning at night. Once you experience Lake Nantahala, vacationing on any other lake becomes out of the question.
Trout fishing in the Nantahala River is excellent all season long for fly fishing and spin casting. NEW THIS YEAR...Guests at our homes have unlimited exclusive access to over 2 miles of private river frontage on what has been called the Premier Trout river East of the Rocky Mountains. The Nantahala river hosted the 2011 USA National Fly Fishing Championships in May 2011. The river is located less than 10 minutes from our lake home. A North Carolina fishing license and Trout stamp is required. We can set you up with a licensed guide upon request.
Located less than twenty minutes from our lake home is the Nantahala Outdoor Center voted by Good Morning America and National Geographic Adventure Magazine as the #1 family vacation spot in America for vacations with a splash. The Nantahala River will play host to the 2013 World Freestyle Kayaking Championships with athletes from over 50 Countries participating. The Nantahala River will also host a World Cup Freestyle event in 2012 as a test event for the World Championships in 2013.
When planning your Nantahala vacation, be sure to include a White Water rafting trip for the whole family down the Nantahala. Then dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, The Rivers End Cafe.
Fishing Special: 4 nights, up to 4 people, including fishing boat $999.00 including all taxes. Also includes exclusive access to 2 miles of private river frontage on the premier Trout Stream in North Carolina. We provide lake maps & bait suggestions. Full guided service is also available. Offer good Sept 15th-May 15th every year. Additional people $50.00 per person, per night.
Couples Getaway: 3 nights, 2 people only, $399.00. Rate not available for more than 2 people. Offer good Sept 15th-May 15th every year.

Great week at Lake Nantahala
Great week at Lake Nantahala

We had a great week at the lake and highly recommend it. Normally we spend summer vacations on the Outer Banks but were looking for something different this year. This home was a good fit for our family of 8 which included my wife and I, 3 twenty-something kids, two girlfriends and our 11 year old. Lake Nantahala and the surrounding mountains and national forest are remote but spectacularly beautiful and the home is right on the lake. There aren't many homes and the lake was uncrowded. At night you can see all the stars and the Milky Way from the dock if its clear. The boat which came with the house was perfect for tubing, exploring and fishing. We caught zero fish but had fun trying (I should note we are novice fishermen). Everyone had a great time. Our last afternoon we spent rafting the Nantahala River which was also a blast and highly recommended (see Nantahala Outdoor Center website). A visit to Wayah Bald for the mountaintop views of four states (about a 30 minute drive including 10 mi. of steep gravel road) is well worth the trip, as was gem mining in Franklin for our youngest. We swam off the boat dock at the house every day and used the canoe and two kayaks as well. We golfed at the Mill Creek Country Club, which is 40 minutes away. A very active week. The dock really needed a ladder to make it easier to get out of the water after a swim, which was the only negative in my opinion. There is a very small beach, not big enough to spread towels or hang out on, like the dock, where we spent a lot of time. The lake is well off the beaten path and relatively undeveloped, with only a marina, a diner, a bait shop and a couple tiny stores nearby. The nearest shopping center is in Franklin, about a half hour drive down the mountain. Buy your groceries and other provisions on the way in. The Lakes End diner had good sandwiches/burgers and we ate there twice. We could not have had a better week overall.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Second time at the lake house. Great place and great fishing. Caught five walleyes and a boat load of small mouth. Just the wife and I this time but the home sleeps a bunch if you have a big family. Used the pontoon boat and it ran great.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Ok, if you don't like the mountains, a pristine lake, boating, fishing, and just getting away from it all, then you'll hate this! This lake house is remote on the Nantahala and it takes some time getting there, but it's well worth it. We loved it and look forward to coming back next year.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

This was our third time visiting Lake Nantahala and second time staying at this home. We have also rented from the same owners at their Sanibel Island Florida home once. The home was clean and well kept. We have six adults, four adult children and two little ones. Everyone had fun and the weather was perfect. We would recommend you reserve a day to go Rafting on the Nantahala. It was enjoyed by everyone. The other trip you should make if you vacation here is to see the Elk Herd in the Smoky Mountain National Park. It was recommended to us by the owners and was one of our highlights of the trip. The home is perfect for our family. We have no complaints. Our deposit was returned within a week and there were no issues. We will be back.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Dad said for me to write about what I liked at the Lake. We got to the Lake about an hour before the rest of our family. Some came from Atlanta and some from Florida. There are 12 people in our family. Granny did most of the cooking. Dad and Uncle John Fished every morning. My cousins and I played pool every night and cooked Somores on the fire. We Swam about ten hours every day. We went to the waterfall three times and I use that picture on my facebook page now. It is the most beautiful spot I have ever been to. We kayaked to the islands and sung from the rope swing most days. The older boys went white water rafting one day. The house is way cool. The kids ruled the bottom half and the adults stayed in the top. Granny went swimming with us every day. We even got her to ride the tube once. Lake Nantahala is the best vacation we ever had. Mom said Granny booked the house for the same week next year. I can't wait.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

This was our seventh year staying at this home. Our family is from 11 months to 77 years old. We love this home and the owners and management are the best to work with. Having a boat on the Lake is a must. The local marina has very few rental boats and charge over $1,200.00 To use one for the week. The home has a walk out basement to a short path (maybe 40 feet) to the lake. My 77 year old mother makes it down and up from the lake several times a day no problem. The lake in front of the home is a beautiful sand bottom. Most of the lake has steep rocky banks. This home does not. It is perfect for swimming. In the fall they drop the lake a few feet and there would be a sandy beach then I guess. We visit in July or August every year and the lake is right up to the bank. The owners have skis, tubes and fishing poles and about fifty life jackets of every size. There is a canoe, paddle boat and two kayaks too. The home is wonderful. Big kitchen and a dining room table that seats our whole gang of 14 at one time. We always find the home clean and well appointed. They add new furniture or items every year. You can tell it is owned and enjoyed by a family who likes to have fun. My kids call this home "Our Lake House" they have grown up there and we would never stay anywhere else. The owners have my contact information and I would be glad to recommend this home to anyone.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

My family and I stayed in this home and had a very nice vacation. It is not four bedrooms, it is three bedrooms with a large loft area. The fourth area has a queen bed but there is no door or closet to call this a bedroom. The driveway is hard to get out of and the exterior steps leading from the 1st floor down to the 2nd floor are in very bad condition and very hard to walk down. There is not much of a beach, and to get to it is very hard. There is alot of brush, sticks and rocks you have to walk through to get to the beach and my kids had to clear an area for the baby to play at. Lake Nantahala is absolutly beautiful and this is our 2nd time to vacation on it.Owner response: There is no sandy beach in front of any home on Lake Nantahala in July because the lake if full. When it is down in September and October we have a beautiful sandy beach in front of our home. There are seven steps from our walkout basement to the lake. They are cut into the ground with railroad ties. Nobody ever had a problem before. This group lied about the number of people staying at our home. They damaged our boat, and did considerable damage to our lake home. We charged their damage deposit $190.00 to repair the damage. This was the third time in over 220 rental weeks over nine years we have been forced to charge a deposit for damages. We have over twenty families who stay with us year after year. We will be glad to supply anyone with contact information from real people who will give real reviews of our home and us.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: 20' Small Mouth Caught in April. We have a fish and Ski boat available if you prefer a boat rather than a pontoon. Fishing is tremendous from the First full moon in March thru June. Then it heats up again about September 1st thru the middle of October. We supply fishing maps and bait suggestions in our guest book.
Why the Owner Chose Lake Nantahala:
Lake Nantahala has 3,800 surface acres and over 42 miles of shoreline, of which 97% is Nantahala National Forest. The Nantahala National Forest consists of 4 forests, the Pisgah, Nantahala, Uwharrie, and Croatan which all together make up 1.2 million acres. Nantahala National Forest consists of a hiker's paradise with over 1,300 miles of hiking trails, numerous waterfalls, more than 800 campsites, 490 picnic sites, 7 swimming beaches, 11 wilderness areas, numerous lakes, plus hundreds of miles of rivers and streams, including two nationally recognized wild and scenic rivers. Lake Nantahala has the 2nd highest surface elevation east of the Mississippi at 3,100 foot of elevation. Lake Nantahala is a beautiful area with pristine crystal clear water. Lake Nantahala is one of the top fishing lakes in the South East. Walleye, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Bluegill, Crappie, Small Mouth and Large Mouth Bass are plentiful in the lake. March, April, and May are excellent for Walleye , Small Mouth and Brown Trout. June, July, and August are when the Bluegills are bedding. The first full moon in September heats up for fall fishing. Once you experience Lake Nantahala, vacationing on any other lake becomes out of the question.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Lake Nantahala is the most beautiful pristine in the Southeast. It is always in the top ten cleanest lakes in America. The lake is a high elevation lake with steep banks. Make sure to ask how many steps to the lake before you rent a home on Lake Nantahala . We picked our lot because it is one of only a very few on the lake that does not require dozens of steps to get to the lake.
