- Created in 1910 Glacier National Park was America's tenth National Park, and is a major attraction to the Flathead Valley with over 2.1 million visitors in 2012. Park activities include; hiking (over 730 miles of scenic trails), guided hikes, boat tours, “Red Jammer Bus” tours over the Going to the Sun Highway, guided horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and unsurpassed photography opportunities. Scale the Continental Divide by car, bus, or for the more adventurous, by foot. Visiting Glacier National Park is an experience you will not forget. At the west entrance to the park many more recreational activities await you. Guided whitewater rafting trips, fishing excursions, canoe/kayak/bicycle rentals, scenic helicopter flights over Glacier National Park and the surrounding area, horseback riding, and golfing. The Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort offers chair lift rides to the top of the mountain. Capture spectacular 360 degree views. North into the Canadian Rockies, or south to Flathead Lake, the largest natural fresh water lake west of the Mississippi River. Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort is just 30 minutes from Hungry Horse by car. The Hungry Horse Dam and Recreational Area begins just four miles from Hungry Horse. Hungry Horse Dam was the world's third largest dam at the time of it's completion in 1953. Impounding the South Fork of the Flathead River Hungry Horse Dam created a reservoir that contains 3,467,179 acre feet of water in a catchment area of 1,640 square miles. Hydroelectric power generation is the primary purpose of the dam generating over 900,000,000 Kwh per year. After viewing the dam, drive over the dam. You may chose to drive completely around the reservoir, a 100+ mile journey via a USFS road that will take you the better part of a day. Along the way you may see wildlife, mountain views, stop for a picnic, try you luck at fishing, go for a swim, or go for a hike. Be sure to fuel up first and bring your camera. ...moreless

A great place to stay: clean and convenient
A great place to stay: clean and convenient
This little cabin is great: everything is very new and very clean. It is clear that Kathie (the manager) and the owner really care about it. The location is quiet, and the bed is comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and dishes. The bathroom is huge. The neighbors are friendly. It is an easy drive to Glacier National Park, and into Columbia Falls for eating options. The small supermarket in Hungry Horse has lots of useful items, including sandwich fixings and reasonably priced bear spray if you are going to the park. (The bear spray is much cheaper in Hungry Horse than it is anywhere nearer to the park.) When we (hopefully) return to Glacier, we will definitely stay here again.

Clean place, cheap price

This "cabin" looks like a converted tool shed from the outside, but it is spotless on the inside. It is on a side street, so there are only about a half-dozen cars a day that go by. We found it very quiet and convenient to the West Glacier entrance at only about 10 minutes away. (Most of the really good trails at Glacier are on the east side of the park, and it will take you 3 full hours to get there from this cabin.) We tried to grill out, but found that the propane tank was out of fuel. After we cooked our steaks in the oven, we realized there was only ONE knife in the cabin that we had to share. (C'mon--can't you spring for two steak knives?) Only salt, pepper and sugar are the condiments in this cabin, so don't expect anything else here either. But we were close to Lake McDonald and could go there easily several times from this cabin, and there are several convenient places to get supper or a milkshake. The bed was clean and well-maintained and the bathroom could not have been cleaner. For what we paid, we received the value. But if you're planning on doing a lot of hiking on the Glacier trails that are on the east side of the park, realize it is going to take you a long time to get to and from there. Since it was our first time in Glacier, that was probably the biggest surprise about staying at this cabin.

Manager response: Dear Travelers, Thank you for the time you took to submit your review. All reviews are welcomed and considered. I was pleased to read that you enjoyed the cabin and found it clean and to your liking. Yes, I will purchase another set of steak knives for future guests, (I wonder where they all went, hmm). I tested the barbeque unit and it lit on the first try. I regret that I was not made aware of the situation and could not assist you. Visitors to Glacier National Park should know that the park is huge. The park contains over 1,000,000 acres, that is 1,583 square miles of pristine wilderness. This beautiful part of our world is criss crossed with over 740 miles of hiking trails. All this spectacular scenery is accessed by mostly 2 lane highways. With nearly 2.000,000 visitors each year primarily in July and August, highways and byways are quite congested. Please plan a long vacation so you will have plenty of time to take in all your planned activities and relax. Book early for best rates and availability!

We had a wonderful visit to Glacier Park and this cabin was even better than we had expected! The cabin, was super clean and comfortable for our family of 5. We found it was just right for us 2 adults and our 3 young children. Kathie was wonderful and very friendly and was a joy to meet. The location is good and close to the Park and many great little shops. The rental price is also so reasonable for what you get, you can't complain! We plan on staying here again on our next Glacier park vacation!

Enjoyed the proximity to Glacier NP West. Since it was our first visit, we went every morning. The cabin is great for 2 adults; OK for family of 4 with small children. Floor needs reinforcing - lots of jiggling. Nicely stocked with condiments, shampoo, ice, paper plates, utensils, etc. A remote for the TV while watching DVDs would be a super nice addition. Otherwise, can't fast forward, rewind, pause, etc.

Manager response: Dear Travelers, I am always happy to receive reviews. It helps me to better serve future guests. The floor has undergone some repairs and is scheduled for a total rebuild this fall during the off season. It will be totally solid for 2014 guests! I am happy that prior guests enjoyed the location and that it was convenient to their vacation activities. It was nice that they found the cabin well stocked and tidy. As manager I will always look for ways to improve your stay and insure that you are satisfied with your choice of your vacation rental. Sincerely. Kathie
Wonderful Stay!Guest comment entered by manager
We were quite pleasantly surprised at the cabin and look forward to staying again! Though it appears tiny in the photos it is surprisingly spacious. The unit was very clean and had a cozy feel to it. It is conveniently located in town but tucked away from the highway so that it is quiet. I find the previous complaints surprising because we honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about it - the kitchen is well stocked for cooking/dining, the seating/beds are comfortable, the bathroom is huge, there is a barbecue outside for grilling and a furnished deck overlooking the forest which is also provides a perfect seating area for star gazing. My husband was initially concerned about the absence of television stations, but once there, it was not missed at all. There is so much to do, we didn't have time for television. One suggestion for travelers - bring a portable radio/alarm clock if you enjoy ambient noise. That worked like a charm for us. It was truly an enjoyable stay and I would like to say a big "Thank you" to Kathie! It was a such a pleasure to meet her! She was so very kind and welcoming, it was apparent that ensuring you have a positive stay is important to her. Her graciousness combined with all the personal touches in the cabin, and the fact that it is affordably priced made it a perfect stay for us and I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone. Things to check out in the area: Hungry Horse Dam (beautiful), Montana Vortex (unique), Amazing Fun Center & Big Sky Waterproof (great places to bring kids), HuckLand & Huckleberry Patch (yummy) and of course Glacier National Park/Whitefish Lake/Lone Pine State Park (all incredible natural areas)
