This condo is not a typical vacation rental. Named RA Amuru by its owner, world musician, visual artist, and international adventure traveler Jim Berenholtz, it actually becomes an integral part of each guests' island experience. Here you will find a custom-decorated sacred space with traditional art, artifacts, and furnishings of native Pacific Island cultures, reading materials that explore these cultures, and easy access to the kind of spectacular nature that inspired these cultures in ancient times.
This quiet, one bedroom, two bath condo can comfortably sleep up to four people (with a great futon couch/bed in the living room) and includes a well-equipped kitchen, cable TV, VCR, surround-sound DVD/CD player, high speed cable internet hook up as well as free wireless service, washer/dryer in unit, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, and countless small aesthetic touches that make a vacation feel intimate and special. The ocean view lanai (balcony) has wonderful views of sunrise over Haleakala and sunset over the ocean near the island of Kaho'olawe.
RA Amuru is less than a two minute walk to one of Kihei's best beaches, and about ten minutes drive to Maui's most spectacular beach, Makena, which has a clothing-optional area. The condo is also just past all the busy shopping districts of Kihei, yet within walking distance of excellent restaurants and stores. And onsite at the Maui Banyan condo complex are tennis courts, two pools plus jacuzzis, and outdoor barbecues.
RA Amuru combines an artistic, peaceful atmosphere with great ocean views and access, plus all the amenities that provide comfort while making a vacation go as smoothly as possible. RA Amuru gives the guest a sense of spiritual place and time. Welcome. Relax. Breathe.

My boyfriend and I rented the condo for a friend's wedding. The condo was very spacious for the two of us. The ocean is right across from the complex and the condo had all the gears we needed to spend time at the beach. There is also plenty of parking space in the parking structure that is right across from our room. We were able to walk to resturants and a Dennys, the only food place that is open 24 hours in Kihei. Jim was wonderful to work with and I will definitely rent this unit again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This place is a wonderland of both site and sound, an awakening of spirit.Ra amaru, is something you must experience to know what I speak about.This amazing man has gathered all of these beautiful items.making a home that entertains your spirit, opens your mind and relaxes your body So peaceful and quite lots of books to entertain.Its like a mini museum but not stuffy and dark.The light that emmits everyday is warming inviting, I stayed in July 11 for 9 days, it was very difficult like leaving an old friend, I cant wait to get back this time I think I will bring my boys, I know they will enjoy the beaches, the honu, and all the people I met along my journey back to find the key that lead me to Ra Amuru.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Nightly Rates .. $99 to $189/night. A 13.42% State Vacation Rental Tax is added to all rates. Upon booking, a 50% deposit of the total charge is required. A $100 cleaning fee is added to all stays. A fully refundable $200 security deposit, to be returned following stay, is required. For more than 2 people, add $100 per person for security deposit.

About the owner: I love the island of Maui and have made it my part-time home since 1985. My work involves the music and art of native and ancient cultures, so when it came to decorating my condo I wanted to honor the indigenous traditions of Hawaii and other Pacific Islands. For me it is important to give my guests an experience of authentic island culture that they would not likely find in most other vacation rentals. In some ways my condo is like a small museum or art gallery. That's no accident. I often give lectures and performances at museums, and in November, 2009 I was Artist in Residence at the de Young Museum of Art in San Francisco, where my paintings were on exhibit. I also do a lot of work with sacred sites worldwide - to date I have visited over 80 countries. My passion for travel and adventure is quite evident when you stay at my condo. Even the reading materials there reflect that. My first book was published in 1993, and my second book - not yet published - delves deeply into traditions of ancient Hawaii, among other places.
Why the Owner Chose Maui Banyan:
I wanted a place close to the beach with an ocean view that was in a high quality condo complex. The Maui Banyan fit the bill. I was also looking for a unit that had a view of the island of Kaho'olawe, which I feel has a very strong spiritual energy. Back in the 1980's I joined with Native Hawaiians in the movement to stop the bombing of this sacred island, and I am so happy to say that we ultimately succeeded. So when I gaze on Kaho'olawe from my lanai, it gives me great satisfaction to know that I contributed in a small way to bringing peace to that neighbor island of Maui.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
I love the great views - not only sunrise over Haleakala and sunset over the ocean, but stepping out on my lanai in the middle of the night to look at all the stars. It's also great to hear the birds singing in the morning out in the big open field that my unit faces. I really appreciate the convenience of this location too, because I can drive to my favorite beach - Makena - without having to first get through the busy traffic of Kihei's long shopping district. Of course it's only footsteps away if I want to just walk to a beautiful beach like Kamaole 2.
