- Tucked away on top of a hill at the end of a private road. The high elevation creates a cool afternoon breeze that sweeps through the house. (Those farmers knew how to locate a house!) A short easy walk or bike ride to Edgartown center with all of the shops, sightseeing, harbor, restaurants, bars, and galleries available. Walking to town is convenient since parking in town is scarce and crowded. Without your car, you can also walk or ride to the supermarket, liquor store, pharmacy, etc. The bike ride to the ocean at South Beach is flat, offroad and beautiful, passing by interesting homes and gardens. A bike ride to State Beach takes less than 10 minutes and is a welcome respite for a quick swim or book read. One of the most spectacular bike rides is along Ocean Road to Oak Bluffs where you can ride the carousel, eat a meal, have an ice cream, attend a concert or just people watch. Afternoon trips to Aquinnah (Gay Head) and sunset dinners at Menemsha are easily accessible whether planned or impromptu. Upon returning, you have a quiet, peaceful retreat in a lovely garden setting....moreless

Casual and comfortable
Casual and comfortable home in a quiet wooded area off Upper Main Street. Plenty of living space. Well-equipped kitchen. Easy walks to supermarket and Edgartown. Easy bike rides on (mostly) bike trails to State and South Beaches. Photos accurate. Good communication with owner.

cozy farm house, great location
This is a cozy old farm house on a little knoll, updated to feel spacious and accommodating. Picture perfect. Very comfortable. Internet works well. Exquisitely clean. Great location. Rent bikes, go to the beach, eat great food. What could be better?

About the owner: I grew on Long Island Sound and spent summers on Fire Island and the Hamptons. To me, the Vineyard is even more special that those places. Development has been kept to a minimum and so there is not the sense of ostentatiousness that you might see elsewhere. While there are magnificent homes on the Vineyard, the objective is to be low key, rather than show off. Everywhere, you see people smiling....kids, young people, parents, seniors, all having a good time..walking, shopping, swimming, resting, biking. The place has a timeless quality of life one rarely sees in today's bustling resorts. Around each corner, there are meadows and fields, farms and forests, manicured and cottage gardens and beaches and vistas everywhere. As I say to all our visitors...'The Vineyard is not necessarily easy to get to, but once you are there, it's worth it.
Why the Owner Chose Edgartown:
Once I fell in love with the place, I searched for a long time for a house in Edgartown, the most desireable and prestigious location, that had a genuine character and was large enough to accommodate to all of our different interests. Our house is very spacious and one can find privacy or companionship depending on your mood. The house has a fine sense about it and makes all who visit welcome, comfortable and happy to be there.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Being close to the main center of Edgartown is hugely beneficial. There are no parking or driving issues. The bike is the most preferred form of transportation. Everyone rides on the off road safe bikepaths. It's fun and makes everybody feel like a kid. Edgartown is also the most sophisticated of the three towns with fine dining, waterfront restaurants and marinas. Chappaquidick is a short barge ferry ride across the channel. Cappaquidick is a world unto itself. The Trustees beach is one of the most pristinely beautiful beaches you will see anywhere in the world. Looking left or right you will see not one man made structure. Oak Bluffs is close, funky and fun to visit for nightlife and endless activities and concerts in the waterfront park or in the Victorian 'Campgrounds' Tabernacle where thousands of people will sing old fashioned American songs at night.
