Our Sun City home, which we fondly refer to as the 'Hitching Post' is located in Sun City, AZ and is an active adult community. What this means is that one person staying here must be 55 years old or older. The other guests can be any age.
No Cleaning Fees! We know you'll pick up after yourselves and tidy up. We'll do the deep cleaning when you leave. No problem and no charge!
We offer passes to Sun City's 7 Recreation Centers at cost of $2/person/day. 2 of these centers area within 1 mile of our home and all 7 are less than 10 minutes away. Here's what you get: Nearly a dozen pools heated to over 85 degrees. All kinds of pools: indoor, outdoor, walking pools, lap pools, sunning pools, shady pools, and salt water or traditional pools. Huge hot tubs and spas at every center. Free minature golf at several centers. State of the art fitness centers. Free WIFI Internet access AT THE 7 Recreation Centers and libraries as well as in our home.
Tennis, racket ball, bocce ball, lawn bowling, pickle ball - Free Billiards, Snooker, Ping Pong, Shuffleboard - If you like to do it, you'll likely find it here. Row a boat or fish at Lakeview center. Clubs and workshops of every kind. Free movies, music, and entertainment at times. Reduced prices at our 2 bowling alleys and the many golf courses you're surrounded by. Come try out Sun City and see why we love it here!
Our home has been recently updated and has a new and fresh feel. And, even though this is a new rental property for us, we own a summer rental in South Haven, MI (see VRBO Listing #324764) and have excellent reviews over the past several years. So, we know what you want and need to be comfortable!
We make sure everything is in working order, neat and clean and ready to let you get into 'vacation mode'. Take advantage of our bicycles to cruise the quiet neighborhoods.
We want you to feel like you're in Arizona and we make local resource materials available and convenient to help you get around and take advantage of all there is to do here.
You immediately notice how well-kept the neighborhoods in this area are. Our home is in an excellent location - just a couple blocks off the 'main drag' (Bell Rd). We have all kinds of birds, and you'll notice small kangaroos hopping around the back yard (well, actually, they're large Arizona Jack Rabbits).
Sun City is an Active Adult Community offering many activities for your enjoyment. There are seven Recreation centers with fitness centers, racquet ball/tennis courts, indoor & outdoor swimming pools, (one is salt water), billiards or bowling centers etc, as well as 8 golf courses. If you like crafts -- bridge, woodworking, silversmith, gardening, dancing, these are available at the recreation centers along with free concerts in the outdoor arena. With over 100 clubs available, you are sure to find something that will interest you. We'll provide you with passes for $2/person/day that allow you to use all the Sun City Recreation Center facilities (golf and bowling have additional fees.
The Golf Course fees are some of the most reasonable around with fees averaging $30.
Other nearby activities include:
Peoria Sports Complex about 10 minutes away.
The Glendale spring training facility and stadium -- Arrowhead Shopping Towne Center, (250+ retailers), Costco, Target, WalMart, Macy's Nordstrom's Rack etc. There are two 18 screen theaters and nearly every restaurant you could possibly name (plus, a few of our secret favorite spots!)
Scottsdale: Known for its art community and cooking events, the renown Mayo Clinic, the world famous Barrett-Jackson collector car auctions, the annual Arabian Horse Show. and the PGA Tour's best attended winter tournament.
Sedona: known as the 'Red Rock Country' and Tucson are both only a 1 1/2 hour drive. The Grand Canyon is 3 1/2 hours north.
Boating, fishing and hiking activities are available at Lake Pleasant and the White Tank Mountains. If you're looking for a showcase of Museums, the Symphony, An Opera house, Fine Eating, the Desert Botanical Gardens, the Heard Native Museum and many other urban delights, Phoenix is 30 minutes away.
Additionally, there're many art events and galleries to see the spectacular work of local and nationally acclaimed artists. Last, but not least; Phoenix International Raceway, home of NASCAR races.
Minutes west is Surprise Stadium, spring training home of the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers. Many baseball teams make the Phoenix area their winter home, so if you're a fan, there are many games for you to attend.

The hosts, Carl and April were very welcoming and helpful when we arrived. They supplied (with their own $ ) recreation passes for each of us (their were 4 of us ) to 7 very close and unique recreation centers. The centers were varied with activities of all kinds...swimming, bocce ball, mini-golf and even a lake to use a boat and fish. (boat usage was free ) At one of the rec centers, we golfed until around 8:30 p.m. and enjoyed the Sun City evening under a full moon! The plants at the golf course were beautiful. The house was VERY clean and well appointed, yet it had a very comfortable feel to it. We used the bbq one night and saved money cooking in with all appliances/utensils available to use. They really thought of everything. We were treated to cold bevs in the fridge upon arrival as well as candied orange peels which April made herself! The beds and bedding were heaven~ Clean and comfortable! The neighborhood is quiet, yet friendly and both neighbors shared fruit from their trees with us. Of course, if you are looking for more privacy, I believe it would not be hard to get that also. No one was intrusive, yet open if you wanted to meet new friends. The community is a retirement community and we saw very few people actually residing there at the time, yet there were occasional bike riders and walkers. The hosts made bikes available in case we wanted to use them. The laundry room was separate from the house and fully stocked with what we needed for clean clothes on our trip. It is located off the main drag, but available to shopping, and we were very impressed at the closeness to major roads connecting to other suburbs of the greater Phoenix area.The photos are a bit darker and do not show how much natural light there really is in the house. I mentioned this to April and she said she would rather have people pleasantly surprised than be disappointed. Well, we were definately pleasantly surprised! We loved our experience with these homeowners as they seemed to really care about the quality of our experience and there were so many extra thoughtful touches. Thank you Carl and April for the extra effort at making our family vacation a memorable and greatly pleasurable experience. We would definately love to stay at your place again! It was so nice and so very clean~Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children.

About the owner: We're Michiganders! But, Michigan is tough in the winter. After years of searching the US and foreign soil, we finally chose Sun City to be our winter paradise.
Why the Owner Chose Sun City:
We chose Sun City for many reasons. This property is in the best part of Sun City (in our humble opinion). Quiet, but close to everything.
It's close to a major airport (Phoenix Sky Harbor) and major highways. It's close to good health care (minutes away). Sport, shopping, and cultural activities abound. The weather is great. We love the desert and the 'wild west'. And it's a great starting point for day or overnight trips to Grand Canyon, Vegas, California, etc. No place is perfect, but this is close.

Our home, The Hitching Post is just what you need as a simple base for activities. It's efficient, clean, comfy, and affordable. And you'll like the extra touches we've provided.
We're experienced at this and enjoy providing a nice rental property to explore an area. We've had a vacation rental in South Haven, MI for several years now with excellent reviews. We've decided to do the same thing here in Sun City because there's so much to see and the recreation centers are such a huge asset!
