Fantastic Adirondack camp with 100 years of family history blends old and new. Camp Pohickery sits on 4+ acres with 200' of rocky lake front. Wake up to see the sun rising over the green mountains of Vermont! The camp is furnished with many original antiques throughout the house. Part of the house is original and part has been renovated. The original section is rustic and has four bedrooms (two with double beds, one with bunk beds, and one with a twin bed); one and a half bathrooms; large living room and dining room (seats 10) with picture window and massive stone fireplace. The newly rebuilt eat-in kitchen (seats 6) has a large sitting area with access to a bedroom (with double bed) and bathroom which are also newly rebuilt. The large front porch offers stunning views down gently sloping lawns to the lake. A back deck off the kitchen offers another place for an easy picnic. A croquet court is leveled out in the lawn, suitable for volleyball, badminton, frisbee, stargazing, and more. The private lakeshore is accessible by stairs down the steep bank, and therefore is not suitable for boat launching; however, public boat launch sites are available nearby. The lakeshore is rocky, with stunning views of Split Rock to the south and the expanse of the lake up to the north. Please note that the beachfront is separated from the house and lawn by a 35mph lightly traveled road. Two miles from the Essex ferry. While the house features modern conveniences, the original section retains the rustic, historic style that our family has enjoyed for almost 100 years. Note: The original bedrooms and bathrooms do not have heat and are not insulated. Therefore we limit our rental season to the summer months. We do have electric blankets for any cool nights in early and late summer. The renovated bedroom has a portable heater.
Original part of house has four bedrooms accessed from a common hallway; this is good for parents to be near their children. The fifth bedroom is tucked away in a quiet corner at the back of the house. ...moreless

The cabin is located between historic Essex, NY and quaint Westport, NY, both with a variety of restaurants and shops, as well as boat rentals at the marina. The Champlain Area Trails website offers excellent descriptions of area hiking options: http://www.champlainareatrails.com/. A ferry ride across the lake to Burlington, VT, or a scenic mountain drive to Lake Placid, NY, offers a range of shopping, dining, museums and more. The house itself is set quite far back from the road, and woods on three sides give ample privacy.

About the owner: My great-grandfather Louis purchased this land and built the camp as part of the Crater Club, a summer residential development enjoyed by many New York City businessmen in the early part of the 20th century. I have been to the camp every year since I was born - even making the journey when I lived on the other side of the world! My husband, children and dogs always look forward to hiking and swimming on our visits every year.
