OCEANFRONT:
BEACH HOUSE FRONTS HILO'S BEST SWIMMING AND SNORKELING BEACH. Beautiful black and white sand ('salt and pepper') beach offers great swimming, snorkeling, surfing, and kayaking. Located in the 'Sunny Keaukaha' neighborhood of Hilo, this beach house is the most popular house on the block. Perfect for couples or families. For larger groups, or those preferring more space, a 3rd bedroom and 2nd bathroom can be accessed through a separate entrance downstairs. PLEASE NOTE: We do not rent the top and bottom floors separately, so guests always retain their privacy. For example, if a group of 1-3 occupies the top level of the house, then the bottom floor remains unoccupied.
BEST HILO BEACH:
This house fronts family-friendly Richardson beach in the majestic Hilo Bay. Protected swimming and snorkeling areas with lifeguards line the Hilo Bay. Richardson beach is located across the road from the house. The road in front is a residential street, not a busy highway, that ends a block beyond this house. Boogie boards and some beach equipment provided.

HOUSE NEXT DOOR:
This house is right next door to the Hawaii Beaches house. For larger groups, or families traveling together, the Beaches house can be rented in conjunction with this house. When rented together, the houses can accommodate up to 16 people.
PRIME HILO LOCATION:
Located in the town of Hilo and just 5 miles from the airport, this house is close to helicopter tours, farmer's market, shopping, restaurants, golf, waterfalls, Volcanoes National Park, museum, tours, Keck, Hilo Medical Center, and the University of Hawaii. This private home is just as comfortable for 2 as at is for 6.
AVAILABILITY:
Call or email owner for current openings, and also ask about the house next door. Available for nightly, weekly, or extended stay (monthly) rental lodging.
LIVING AREA:
Spacious living and dining areas with ceiling fans and fabulous ocean views. Leave the doors open and experience the ocean breezes as they flow through the house. Gentle sounds of waves rolling into the Bay. At night, sit outside and witness clear skies filled with stars.
Living area has large flat panel TV, DVD, High Speed Internet (WiFi), and amazing views.
KITCHEN:
Kitchen is fully-equipped with quality appliances, dishes, serving ware, tableware, and everything you will need to cook during your stay. Granite kitchen counter tops, dishwasher, etc. A portable cooler is also available so guests may pack lunches and leave for the day. Fantastic Ocean Views.
DINING AREA:
Seating for 1-4 at table, plus extra kitchen counter seating for 2. East indoors or outside using the patio furniture on the ocean side of the house.
BEDROOM 1:
Queen bed. Located on the garden side of the house in a quiet and peaceful setting. The bookshelf inside the closet is complete with local guidebooks, novels, and books of interest. We invite guest to take or leave a book. Family board games, and playing cards are also provided.
BEDROOM 2:
This quiet bedroom has fantastic ocean views and easy access to the kitchen and living room areas. Queen sized bed with highest quality linens. The closet is equipped with iron and ironing board, beach mats, and family board games.
BEDROOM 3:
This spacious bedroom is the only room located downstairs (through a separate, outdoor entrance) and has a private bathroom. Think of this an an above-ground, finished basement, with windows facing the ocean on one side and the garden on the side. 1 Queen size bed, and 1 day bed (2 twins). With porcelain tile floors, this room stays cool day and night. Second TV. For groups larger than 8, 2 single sized futon mats with fitted linens are stored in the closet of Bedroom 3.
BATHROOM 1:
Located on the main level of the house, just off the central hallway between Bedrooms 1 & 2. Fully-equipped with bath towels, bath mats, beach towels, paper products, and hair dryers.
BATHROOM 2:
Full bathroom with shower (not pictured), located downstairs and attached to Bedroom 3. Fully-equipped with bath towels, bath mats, beach towels, paper products, and hair dryers.
ABOUT THIS AREA:
The SURFRIDER Beach house is located at Richardson beach in the town of Hilo. Because Hilo is a community and not a resort, it has an old-fashion comfortable feel. Visitors can take off their shoes and relax like the local people. Hilo is the second largest city, ranked below Honolulu in population and size. Visitors will find familiar services: movie theaters, shopping malls, grocery stores, retail chain stores, restaurants, and nightlife within Hilo. Beaches and beach parks comprise the Bay. It is a great place to learn about old Hawaii and the environmental and cultural forces that shaped it.
WEATHER
The temperature is mild throughout the year, averaging 72 degrees in winter months and 76 degrees in summer months. Most of the time, the temperature is a cool 74 degrees. The ocean breeze at Surfrider in conjunction with the mild temperature make for a comfortable and enjoyable island stay.
BEACHES, SNORKELING, SURFING:

We loved staying at your amazing oceanfront 8 Palms House. It was lovely, very clean and well maintained. The house is exceptional in every way. We would stay again and recommend others do the same.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

"I've never enjoyed a trip so much! Thank you for making your Palms house available to us. We witnessed a mother whale and her baby playing in the ocean right in front of the house. It was an incredible and captivating show. We watched them frolic and play for nearly 3 hours from the lanai. The dolphins skipped by later in the day, and my son spotted a large sea turtle while walking along the coastline. What a fantastic wildlife experience. The house was so cool and comfortable, day and night. The gentle winds seems to blow in both directions throughout the day. This was our first trip to the Big Island, but certainly not our last. Thank you for the information on the new road to the Volcano Park. We packed dinner in the cooler and spent the evening watching the most magnificent glow. "Thank you so much for the lovely 8 Palms house! We found your house in a beautiful spot, meticulously clean, and just what we needed. Our only move-in crisis was quickly solved by your friend Samantha. We quickly determined that the downstairs toilet worked with no problems if one did not put too much toilet paper in before flushing! She even called our friend Lopaka on our way to dinner at his cousin's house in Volcano to check if all was well. We really enjoyed being at the house, and quickly got used to the drive from and to Hilo . The Merrie Monarch festival was fantastic. You might notice that we did not write in the guest book; we never do, but that does not mean we did not like your house! David and I have rented a lot of houses in Hawaii over the years; yours presented the fewest problems for us and your instructions and preparations for the house take the top prize. Your maintenance person came right over and solved the light sensor problems and also noticed that the hasp for the laundry room door was really rusted from the ocean air. He installed a new aluminum one which worked beautifully. He told us that his wife cleans the house. She is to be lauded for keeping your house so clean. Thank you again for a great week in Hilo!"
