Leadville is a small, historic mountain town in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. We are within 1 hour of 7 ski areas. The house is walking distance from the Mineral Belt Trail - an 11+ mile paved loop around town, perfect for cross-country skiing in winter and biking/walking in summer. Other summer activities are too numerous to list! Hiking, fishing, biking, wildflowers, history, racing (participants/supporters/spectators), rafting... Winter is, of course, for skiing - alpine and cross-country- snowshoeing and snowmobiling.
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I moved to Leadville in 2002 when I accepted a faculty position at Colorado Mountain College. I was lucky enough to find this house and spent 8 years making it perfect. Of course, as careers go, I needed to move on. I am now in Colorado Springs but couldn't leave my house and Leadville behind. I try to get up there every month, but that doesn't always work out.
Why the Owner Chose Leadville: When I walked into the house with the seller in February of 2004, the sun was streaming through that beautiful south facing bay window onto the hardwood floors. I saw the little sunroom, perfect for yoga, and knew it was my place. Great neighborhood and neighbors and perfect for walking downtown - I could not have asked for more in a home.
The Unique Benefits at this House: The location is one of the best, but that is not unusual here. This is the perfect house for the cook/reader/gardener/hiker/skier....
