Wonderful space and enchanting gardens
Wonderful space and enchanting gardens
The ONLY reason this review didn't get four stars is really not the owners fault. Like most places in Santa Barbara, the Pagoda house is not air conditioned. I happened to be in Santa Barbara during an intense heat wave where temperatures were regularly in the high 80s and low 90s complete with humidity. I am chronically ill and my symptoms were very much exacerbated during my stay. I finally (and very sadly) elected to move to an air conditioned condo for the last week of my stay. Actually due to these pretty much unforseen circumstances, Maggie Gallant, the owner will be installing air conditioning in the apartment in the very near future. That, coupled with the fact that Santa Barbara typically has very comfortable temperatures, should make this a non-issue. The apartment is full of charm and very comfortable. Maggie, the owner is more than gracious and someone who I hope I will know for a long time. Her majordomo, Gerry, who you will meet when you book and who will help with anything you need is also delightful. Don't hesitate to book this wonderful space. The information in the listing as well as the photos were quite accurate and I would recommend this property to a good friend.

About: I moved to Santa Barbara 6 years ago from Naples, Fl and still have my home there. The arts, cultural events, outdoor living, daily beach walks, hikes in nearby trails, strolls in the many parks, and friendly people have made me love CA more every day. I am from Winston-Salem, NC, had a business in Charlotte, NC, now I am so happy in the Pagoda House and loved restoring this 1902 Grand Empress to her former glory.
Why Lower Riviera:
It spoke to me and said , 'Please restore me, I was a Grand Empress in 1902 and have been neglected all my life.' The solid redwood oriental five red peaked roofs intrigued me, sitting on over a half acre of overgrown tropical gardens in the heart of beautiful Santa Barbara. It was a joy restoring her, and little did I know that I had a magical view when the trees were pruned. The home's redwood walls breathe, giving a feeling of serenity and warmth. The 6,400 square foot house is now brand new, just in an historical outside shell. I love the gardens and lights glowing in town. It is truly a unique historic property.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Riviera views and still short walk to State Street. World class restaurants and shops. The Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Situated on the coveted Riveria,
