Casa Gallina’s "Leghorn Casita" is a one-bedroom cozy, but very large 900 square foot studio casita, gorgeously furnished and supplied with more than you would expect in a vacation rental. Most guests who stay here spend more time at home than they ever expected to!
Natural mud plasters and richly colored stucco adorn the walls, arches and kiva fireplace and saltillo tiles and antique rugs are at your feet. The colors, textures and décor are true New Mexico charm.
The queen sized Ponderosa pine framed bed is fitted with fine all-cotton or flannel linens and an oversized goose down comforter and pillows.
Step out the French doors and you’re in your own private patio garden. Watch my flock of beautiful chickens free roam in the yard. Sit in the New Mexican sun or under the stars and drink in the magic of Taos.
Cook up a beautiful meal in the fully equipped kitchenette and dine at a gorgeous antique dining room table on a banco cushioned with luxurious sheepskins and pillows. Light some candles and sink in for the night.
And if you absolutely need to check in with civilization, the Leghorn Casita is completely furnished with satellite TV and a desktop computer with high speed DSL connection at your disposal.
Your host, Richard, lives next door to answer any questions and tend to any needs that you may have. And if you'd like to indulge for a morning or two, at an additional charge, he'll be happy to cook up one of his delicious breakfasts and serve it for you right next door in his kitchen. (The eggs are all organic and farm fresh from his hens on the property!)

Why the Owner Chose Taos
I am a gardener ... and living in the desert, I gravitate to water ... the houses that I have purchased six years ago are surrounded by two rivers and has an acequia madre (an ancient irrigation ditch) running through the land ... so the water attracted me and also there were good old hand made adobe structures that were here ... and I wanted to renovate and renew something old and tired ... it was the perfect fit for me!

The Leghorn Casita looks right out over my flock of hens ... they are endlessly entertaining ... and the casita is so spacious and beautiful!

We had a truly great stay at Leghorn Casita. The owner knows his business in making you feel comfortable. His enthusiasm for personal touches like fresh baked cookies and his availability for questions about the area were very much appreciated by us. The casita is exactly as it appears in the photos except we had snow and cold temps, so there was not as much outdoor color. This place is great for a couple.
Recommended for:Sightseeing, romantic getaway.

We cannot wait to return to the Leghorn Casita and host Richard. Tucked away amid small ranches and walking distance to the Martinez Hacienda, this sweet spot was our home for a mid-winter getaway. It's a lovely space filled with light and art. Richard is one of the nicest, most gracious hosts we've ever met. The drive to town is easy up Lower Ranchitos -- skip the traffic! The Leghorn Casita is wonderful -- and so is Richard. P.S. He's a great baker so you'll definitely want to take advantage of breakfast!
