Kaunakakai condo description
This one bedroom, one bathroom ground floor apartment condo is located at the Wavecrest Resort on the east end of Molokai, one of the last unspoiled of the Hawaiian Islands.
Molokai offers a Hawaiian vacation much different than the other islands. Molokai is quiet, rural, old Hawaii with a population of about 8,000 residents and around 1,000 or so visitors. Molokai has little traffic and not a single traffic light.
Wavecrest grounds are beautiful and maintained with pride by a full-time staff. From your lanai you will look out on the ocean, the Islands of Maui and Lanai, and the beautiful grounds canopied with plumeria and palm trees, and a variety of Hawaiian flowers. Visitors enjoy sunning by the pool or on the beautiful lawn by the ocean. Upon arrival you are awed by the many lovely trees, flowers and plants and the overall beauty of the grounds and facilities. Behind (north) of Wavecrest, the majestic 5000 ft. Kamakou Peak and 2800 acre Kamakou Forest Preserve loom spectacularly.
The Wavecrest Resort includes tennis courts, shuffle board, ample parking and a cabana with gas grills and swimming pool next to the ocean. There is a small adjacent beach where kayaks and small fishing boats are launched and from where shore-fishing is enjoyed.
Molokai has several beaches, the nearest recommended is Murphy Beach about 7 miles east at mile 20. This is a favorite snorkel spot when the ocean is calmer and the tide is up. One mile further is Sandy Beach just past mile 21 where swimming is usually safe during the summer. At the end of the road is Halawa Bay, mile 29. This is a must see area opening unto the spectacular north side of Molokai and provides good swimming and surfing as well as access to the spectacular 500 ft. Hipuapua and 250 ft. Moa’ula waterfalls of the Halawa Valley.
Kaunakakai, the main town on Molokai, provides all necessities and amenities needed to enjoy your vacation in paradise; restaurants, small Hawaiian diners, souvenir and art shops selling local art, as well as banks, post office, library, and so forth. There is a ferry that runs between Kaunakakai and Lahaina, Maui twice a day so vacationers may travel to and from Molokai via plane or boat. Beware of the ferry during high swells!
Molokai offers all of the usual outdoor sporting activities; swimming, beach-crawling, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, hiking, golf, mountain biking and deep sea fishing as well as fantastic Humpback Whale watching from December through April.
Wavecrest Resort is best suited for couples and seniors seeking a quiet, relaxing vacation in a lush tropical setting. It is not well-suited to large gatherings and/or party goers. Wavecrest has onsite management and security with rules, including quiet times. However all units are rented by either owners or property management companies and these must be contacted for assistance with your rental. The facility does have an emergency contact system for situations that must be taken care of immediately, such as floods, serious electrical problems, gas leaks, and so forth.
We require inquiries to provide dates of interest, phone numbers and sufficient information for contacting references. A damage deposit is required to offset damage or excessive cleaning beyond that due to normal use.

What a delight! The unit was everything we could have wished for! The condo is a very quiet and peaceful refuge. We appreciate the focus on older adults. The setting is perfect, everything extremely well maintained. The unit was exceptionally clean and well provisioned.

This is a must stay on the island of Molokai
This is a must stay on the island of Molokai
I spent a fabulous week with my six year old daughter at the condo. We absolutely enjoyed every second of our time there. Larry and Judy were very gracious in giving us some ideas about what to do during our stay. The island is very layed back and non-touristy. We enjoyed the small shops, Saturday morning 'farmer's market', a hike to the waterfalls, the fabulous beaches and the peaceful grounds of Wavecrest. The condo is exactly how it is listed. Clean, quiet and stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay there. The ground floor is a plus, you can open the door and walk out to the pool with ease. We brough our own beach towels. We didn't use the washer/dryer, but I did check it out and it was clean. Coin operated and only bio-degradable soap which is available in town, but kinda expensive. The pool is beautiful, the grills are spotless and the grounds are beautiful. Larry came to our rescue when we had trouble getting into the lock box and they had all the necessary items to make our stay memorable. We enjoyed a 'guided' tour by Rainbow, the daughter of one of the workers at Wavecrest, up to the waterfalls. Easy hike, lots of mosquitos and bring plenty of water! I would recommend talking with the folks at the Molokai rental shop, Larry has the info, they secured a room in Oahu, transportation over to the island and a good deal on rental cars in Oahu and Molokai. Take the time to tour the island, it's beautiful; lush and green on the east end and dry on the west. They have a ukulele jam secession at a restaurant (can't recall the name). I'm not sure about other children, but my six year old and I enjoyed this vacation! There are beaches, walks and plenty of tiime to enjoy family. Not a place for easily bored children. Internet was sporadic and cell services is too. Our only concern was unanswered calls to the 'security' number at Wavecrest. I had trouble getting into the lock box when we arrived. I called the number several times and never heard back from anyone. Larry was quick to answer his phone and we had no further problems. The area was safe and we had no trouble navigating the island. Just stay off of private property! Enjoy! I miss the gentle winds that blow through the grounds and the pool's soothing water!

Owner response: Mechell, Thanks for posting a review. Judy and I agree with your impressions of Wavecrest and Molokai. We have spent many happy days there. You are the first to rent our unit through VRBO so we are novices at this. We take our host responsibilities towards our guests seriously. We know that a Hawaiian vacation is expensive and want our guests to enjoy Wavecrest and Molokai. I will look into the calls to security and find out why they did not answer or return your calls. Glad we were able to get the lockbox problem resolved quickly. Remember us should you return. Larry

Why the Owner Chose Kaunakakai:
We love Hawaii and wanted to have a place in the tropics we could use to escape the long, wet, dark winters of the Puget Sound region. Molokai and Wavecrest suited our needs and pocketbook.
