For those in search of an enchanting castle retreat, Pieve San Quirico castle is the perfect choice!
It is a magnificent 11th century historic Castle/abbey encircling a courtyard, beautifully renovated to create a private house; it has been restored to the highest standard of renovation and design to create a luxury villa with 7 rooms and 9 bathrooms, with total privacy and breathtaking views.
The Castle lies on a hill overlooking the Tiber valley, close to Assisi, in the centre of a superb 1500 acres estate actually including a collection of castles and woodland, complete with lakes and a natural reserve, midway between Florence and Rome. The owners of the estate are descendants of the family of Napoleon Bonaparte and the castle has been in their family since 1901.
The Castle comfortably sleeps 15 in 7 luxury rooms, all with AC and ensuite bathroom; it is extraordinarily equipped and beautifully interior designed with everything from high speed wireless internet, to whirlpool bathtubs, antiques, panoramic dining veranda, ice maker; the kitchen is exceptionally equipped and there are a bar lounge and a laundry room also.
Four apartments set in a 11th century Tower just up the hill are available for large groups on request.
Table tennis, billiards, mountain bikes and children playground will keep you entertained. Yoga lessons, cooking classes and massages are also available (to be pre-booked).
Outside, you’ll find panoramic terraces, dining areas, gardens rich in flowers, fruit and olive trees, an infinity salt water pool with fantastic hillside views that catches the rays from dawn to dusk, stone BBQ and children’s playground. There is even a beautiful church perfect for tying the knot should the fancy take you.
The Castle huge estate ('The Bagnara Estate'), is at Guests’ full disposal and it is criss-crossed with walking and biking trails, woods for berry-picking, a sprinkling of lakes and a farm where olives, honey and orchard-grown fruit and vegetables are harvested. “Chianina” cattle, chicken and goose are reared on the farm, while wild boar, roe deer and partridge roam in the woods.
The Castle is fully staffed: daily housekeeping , breakfast service, full gardening and pool maintenance service are included in rates. Butler, in house cooker, baby sitter, car with a driver and many additional activities are available on request (to be pre-booked).
The surroundings are completely rural and tranquil but Guests have the convenience of the village, bar, shops, restaurants and sport centre being only five minutes drive away. An excellent and challenging Golf course (18 hole), designed by Robert Trent Jones jr., is only ten minutes drive away.
The Castle can be easily reached from the main roads. It is 4 km far from the E45 freeway (Ravenna-Viterbo, exit “Resina”), which is directly connected to the A1 motorway (Roma-Firenze) and A14 motorway (Bologna-Bari). The international airport of Umbria- San Francesco di Assisi is only 18 km far.

We stayed in this beautiful estate the past summer with our 2 teens. Well can't write enough for the beauty of the property ( 1500 acres of woods, gardens, flowers, lakes, everything set on the hillside). We chose to stay in the upper apartment of the tower, the Knight, because we wanted to have the best view we could on the Umbrian hill side, and we defenetly had. The apartment was very confortable, with a big kitchen, fridges and nice bathroom. The bedrooms, set in 2 floors, are really striking! We were right on the top of the tower and the view was astonishing! The apartment was very clean at arrival. We were provided with the farm estate wines, olive oil, complementary fresh water, and towels for all of us. We felt like we were back in the medieval times, with the big stone walls and arcs. Inside the tower we also had a tokens laundry service, with washing and drying machine, very helpful when you travel with children. Also Wi-Fi connection was provided!! The tower is surrounded by gardens, flowers, very well maintained. There was also a barbecue with everything we needed, where we joined, a couple of nights, dinner with other guests (the best was not to worry about cleaning, the maid staff provides that). Our children liked best the bike riding around the estate, where they saw lots of wild animals, and the big salt water pool, where they spent most of their time, as well as us. We didn’t have to worry about anything. The staffs, perfectly English speaking, were very nice and accommodated all our requests and help us a lot during our stay. The dinner we had in the charming abbey courtyard, just down the tower, was amazing. All the products were so fresh because the vegetables, fruits, "Chianina" meat, olive oil, wines, come from their production , plus bread and pasta were home-made by their chef every day. They have an a la carte menu that changes every day !! That was really a memorable culinary experience! We highly recommend family to stay in this Resort. You can stay on your own in the apartments and at the same time have all the amenities and comforts of a luxury historic hotel. On our next trip to Italy we will definitely go back to Le Torri di Bagnara, the best exclusive place we ever stayed in (and we travel a lot .. ).Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I have reviewed this magnificent and hospitable country residence once before, and the arbiters of truth on this website did not believe that it was for real, my review was so good! Well, here I am again, to let everyone know about my experience with Le Torri di Bagnara. I took a group of 20 people there last Easter for a week, and I cannot write enough superlatives to describe the process leading up to our actually being there. Zenaide Giunta and her wizardly assistant Lucia managed to jump through all the hoops we put them to, and then some! There seemed to be nothing that was too much trouble for them to help us with, and their help was expert. But let me speak about the place itself, because if you are reading this review you may still not have had the pleasure I am about to describe. I am truly a lover of Umbria, and this particular corner of Umbria has a kind of magic all its own. The colours of the morning light over the hills, the evening purples at sunset over the rolling Umbrian hills, cast a spell. The restored Abbey and its accompanying medieval tower which guarded it in centuries past and now add an extra dimension to its charm, are beautifully converted into the kind of guest rooms that make one feel truly special. Every detail in the decor has been lovingly designed and chosen by the family, and executed by local artisans, who spared no effort to create results of real quality. As if the physical environment and comfort of the rooms were not enough, add to that a tremendously adverturous and expert Umbrian chef, working with quality ingredients sourced from local providers and from the family's own land holdings in Tuscany. I wish I could have consumed more of the delicious food, there were simply not enough days! Breakfasts, sumptuous, gave a wonderful start to the days we had. The proximity to Perugia means that cultural activities are so close to hand it is possible to combine the delights of the Umbrian countryside with excursions to create an almost too-good-to-be true experience. As I said, it's for real! and I am going back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Le Torri di Bagnara enjoys a beautiful hillside setting overlooking the valley of the Tiber river about 10 miles north of Perugia. Guests are accommodated in beautifully restored stone buildings. The main lodge has a large outdoor courtyard with tables for drinks or just relaxing and a tower with terrace—a perfect place to contemplate the countryside. The guest rooms are spacious, comfortable, beautifully appointed and airy, with views looking out to the nearby hills. The amenities show a keen eye for beauty and appreciation for ecology; the soaps and lotions are all organic and exquisite and the whirlpool bath is high quality. The food is mostly local, prepared by a friendly cook and amazingly fresh. For breakfast there is an extensive buffet with a wide array of breads, pastries, meats and cheeses, as well as fruit, juice and - of course - excellent coffee and a surprisingly fine selection of tea. The delicious, attractively presented fixed-price dinners offer a seasonal selection of local dishes and provide a fine introduction to the cuisine of the region. During our stay we enjoyed an outstanding porcini risotto, tender fresh-fed veal (raised on the property) in truffle sauce, roasted eggplant with rocket and other fall vegetables from the garden, plus a variety of home-made pastas. The desserts vary each night; the chocolate mousse and wild berry panna cotta we sampled were both exquisite. The family that owns Le Torri also makes its own olive oil and produces red and white wine from its vineyards in Tuscany which are offered by the glass or bottle at dinner for a very fair price. The multi-lingual staff is extremely pleasant, professional and helpful. The proprietor is a very gracious lady who will be happy to share her knowledge of the history of the property and its surroundings. The location makes it a convenient base for exploring the Umbrian countryside. The resort property itself features miles of walking, hiking and biking trails, with helpful signpost indicating trails, tree varieties and local fauna, and is an exciting place for photography. There is also a seasonal swimming pool, with a beautiful setting, so that it is equally well suited to provide a relaxing break from the rigors of touring. A stay at the Torri di Bagnara is truly a once in a lifetime experience and is sure to be a highlight of any Umbrian itinerary. We enjoyed it in October, but would love to return to see another season among the olives and chestnut trees.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/2
