Our Casa de Suenos (House of Dreams) is an adobe style home situated on the high mesa at the North edge of Taos with spectacular views of the Taos mountains and sunsets. With 1,650 square feet of living space it can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people and is eclectically and tastefully decorated. The two bedroom suites, which are at separate ends of the house, have new queen and king beds with plush new linens and towels. The master bath has a jacuzzi and walk in shower as well as a full bathroom next to the guest room suite. We have a futon and a new hide a bed with memory foam in the living room. And a brand new hot tub sits just outside in a private area. Our kitchen is fully equipped with newly purchased cookware, a gas stove and cook top, a full refrigerator with filtered water and an ice-maker and a large gas grill outside the door on the patio to cook while you're enjoying the mountain views. A beautiful kiva fireplace warms the living room with plenty of seating to enjoy from three plush couches as well as a large fire pit outdoors with ample pinyon wood for both. Our home is artist owned with original colorful Southwest paintings in all the rooms and many cultural touches from our world travels. Additional amenities include a 42' satellite HDTV, DVD library and player, wifi internet access, iPod docking player and a full stereo system, new hot tub, new washer/dryer with laundry soap provided, iron and ironing board, toaster, micro-wave, coffee pot, porta crib and jacuzzi tub and private shower in the master bath.
As much as we enjoy the home, we love the peace and quiet of the open spaces that surround us. And you may not have really seen stars and the Milky Way until you have spent an evening as our guests. The sage covered mesa has an old road, immediately accessible from our acreage, which invites cycling, jogging or walking all the way to the Rio Grande Gorge if you like, with views of the mountains around Taos, the Jemez Mountains far to the southwest near Los Alamos and the far western horizon.
We visit our Taos home on a regular basis and as a result, it is very well maintained. We are always thinking about what upgrades we need to make - for us as well as you. We also provide complimentary cleaning service at the end of your stay but you may make arrangements for additional house keeping services by contacting our agent Wendy at Taos Getaways.

Taos, New Mexico grew up in the vicinity of the thousand year old Taos Pueblo, a World Heritage site which is still occupied. At various times of the year, it is the setting for ancient dances, little changed since long before Europeans ever set foot here. The public is welcome at many of these demonstrations of lasting Native American tradition.
The town has been a mecca for artists for well over one hundred years and the town to this day is filled with an array of fine art galleries featuring works of every medium. Joining these artists through the years have been a parade of authors including D.H. Lawrence, New York bohemians such as Mabel Dodge Luhan and actors. Dennis Hopper was a prominent local celebrity after having discovered Taos when making the classic 'Easy Rider'. There are multiple music venues in town with entertainment every night of the week somewhere and wonderful restaurants from which to choose.
Our house sits on the mesa just east of the thousand foot deep Rio Grande Gorge (with the Rio Grande here having been designated a Wild and Scenic River in 1968). In March, 2013, this became an integral part of the county's newest national monument, called the Rio Grande Del Norte. It is nearly a quarter of a million acres and according to the recent proclamation, was meant to protect the sweeping and austere expanse of the Taos Plateau, extinct volcanoes including Ute Mountain, San Antonio Mountain and Cerro de la Olla, and the landscape as a “testament to the geologic past of New Mexico and the 70-million-year tectonic history of the Río Grande Rift.” Check out this great link regarding the magic of the Rio Grande country being protected at http://blog.nwf.org/2013/03/a-shining-jewel-el-rio-grande-del-norte-national-monument/.
We are also just west of Arroyo Seco, the gateway to the canyon which takes you to the Taos Ski Valley, less than 30 minutes away. The road to Santa Fe is either by the main highway - or the more historic High Road, which begins near the famous church south of town at Ranchos de Taos and goes south to the village of Chimayo, featuring the famous 200 hundred year old destination for Easter pilgrimages, Santuario de Chimayo. Along the way are many small mountain villages, including Truchas where Robert Redford filmed the wonderful (and instructive) movie, 'The Milagro Beanfield War' and Trampas with its adobe church dating to 1760. West from the Rio Grande Gorge is the famous hot springs and spa known as Ojo Caliente and not far past that is Abiquiu and the 'Ghost Ranch' where Georgia O'Keefe lived out so much of her professional career and life.
Taos has much to offer the visitor, from fishing, whitewater rafting and hiking to gallery walks, fine restaurants and music. And its a place to slow down and feel the pulse of history and traditions while enjoying the beauty of what truly is the 'Land of Enchantment'.
Year Purchased: 2007
About: We are living full time in Colorado but, having fallen in love with Taos and the environs of northern New Mexico, we decided to build a home here in 2007. We both love outdoor activities such as hiking the mountains and deserts, camping and visiting art galleries from here to Santa Fe.
Why Taos: We discovered Taos while on a desert and canyon road trip 20 years ago. The area was instantly magical and magnetic for us and we chose the Mesa north of town for the wonderful solitude, the views of the Sacred Mountain of the Taos Pueblo and the huge sky which offers wonders day and night.
