This is a magnificent villa tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Cote D'Azur, yet close enough to sample its many delights, before retreating to the sanctuary and tranquility of its wonderful position in the hills just above Vence. The sweeping views down to the Mediterranean from the balconies and most of the bedrooms are stunning. We stayed here with my brothers family and other friends, spending many hours by the pool or if too hot, in the shade of the vines at the massive marble table on the terrace, from where it was still possible to keep an eye on the children in the pool. The young ones were very well catered for with a dartboard, table tennis table, and a wii console, but spent most of their time in the water. The bedrooms were large and airy mostly with en-suite bathrooms, our bed was very comfortable and lovely to wake up to such a great view. It was very useful to have a second kitchen with an american style fridge on the lower level by the pool and large gas barbeque. Due to the secluded location it is necessary to have a car here, this will also give you the chance to explore this enchanting area. The centre of Vence with restaurants, bars and supermarkets is about 5 minutes drive away and seemed to have everything we needed. The villa was very well situated for visiting local places of interest, we went to Antibes, with its Picasso Museum, fabulous covered market and harbour full of vast yachts. In Grasse we had a tour of the perfume museum and the Matisse chapel is right on the doorstep. We all look back on our time in Vence with wonderful memories and would whole heartily recommend staying at this villa.

This is a fantastic villa. The photos do not do it justice. We were a large family group of eighteen and there was loads of space for all of us. The villa is very well equipped with plenty of comfy sun loungers, three massive dining tables and lots of different areas for people to relax in. It is well stocked with lots of pool toys, dvds, maps, books etc. The nearby medieval towns and villages are very pretty and the view over Vence towards the sea is beautiful. The steep road with hairpin bends up to the villa took a day or two to get used to but the villa and the view made it definitely worth the effort.

The pictures on the website don't do Vence Rock justice! It was the perfect villa experience and surpassed all our expectations. Large and luxurious with beautiful stone & tilework throughout, unique decor (each bedroom feels like its own hotel room), yet at the same time warm, cozy and intimate and inviting. Well equipped, with everything you would need. Fabulous views from every room of the Mediterranean. There were 21 of us (14 adults & 7 kids) and the villa could even sleep a few more. Great to put all the kids on the lower level as the (2) alcove beds there are not totally private, and there is also a separate couch area with tv down there. We were there for the Nice Ironman and while we had wanted a villa in Nice, this location allowed us to explore the fabulous mountain towns in the area (Tourettes, Gourdon, St. Paul). A car here is a must and you must be a very confident driver as there are many hairpin turns to make the ride to the house. Nice was more like 35-40 mins away (once you deal with any traffic and parking, as with any city). The town of Vence (5 mins by car) is very authentic - great markets for shopping and good restaurants too. Very large supermarket in town too. You could walk down to town along a foot trail but be prepared to 'hike' back up. Easy parking in an outdoor lot in Vence, too (you could then take a bus from there to other places if you prefer not to drive). The pool did not need to be heated during our stay in June - it was cool, but refreshing. Lots of flotation devices and pool toys for the kids, and the ping pong table was great too. The owner was very responsive and helpful leading up to our stay as well as during, calling to check in with us while we were there. There is also a caretaker in the area who stopped by when necessary. I would wholeheartedly recommend this fabulous villa!

About the owner: We bought the property from Bill Wyman after spotting it for sale on Honeymoon in France. The house has been maintained very much in the style he designed the house to be. It is a wonderful large property and we hope you choose to come stay with us soon.
Why the Owner Chose Vence:
More information about the history of this beautifully appointed house. It built Mr Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones. Introduced to the sunny south of France by Mick Jagger, Wyman originally rented a place in the Seventies in L’Oustaraun, not far from the beautiful hilltop town of Vence. He fell in love with this quiet out-of-the-way setting within easy reach of star-studded Cannes and Bohemiam Artists private hideaway Saint-Paul-de-Vence and started hunting for land. His maid, who also cleaned for French President Giscard d’Estaing, said she owned some left to her by the old Marquise. He snapped up this sloping hillside plot in 1974 and built his own Provencal style house. He even helped design it, making the modern house appear at least a century older by installing old tiles, beams and doors with much inspiration from the famous La Colombe d'Or in neighbouring Saint-Paul-de-Vence He named it La Cabra D’Or, the Provencal phrase for ‘the golden goat.’ The house was named after a 300 to 400-year-old painting of a golden goat discovered on the borders of his land ‘The legend is that the golden goat represents treasure, so there could well be some here. That being said it has been affectionately called Vence Rock due to its legendary roll call of guests over the 30 years Wyman owned it. Security is extremely important to anyone in the south of France. La Cabra D’Or’s one-way approach up a winding road will put off even the most determined burglar. Then there is the Electric gate. If you rang the police, they would catch him on the way down.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
‘It is an idyllic spot, At 600 metres, you don’t get the humidity that hits you further down on the coast, there are no mosquitoes and very few tourists. ‘The 180-degree views are amazing. You can see from Nice right round to Cap d’Antibes – and even as far as Corsica on a clear day.’ ‘It is quite sociable here, with a whole mass of English and Americans. Celebrities feel comfortable in France as the French really don't care who is who Stars who have come to relax by the poolside and have given the place the thumbs up include Mick Jagger and former wife Jerry Hall, Monty Python comic Eric Idle and Beatle Ringo Starr, who loved the pretty tiled house with its Italian fountain so much, he remained in residence for three months Before leaving Wyman transformed the once small ground floor kitchen into an open plan kitchen/breakfast room and twin double alcove bedroom area and his old music studio into a separate guest quarters annexe. More recently Gilbert Tremeilat who worked alongside the now very famous Chagall who was a good friend of Wyman (see book Wyman on Chagall) did a private commission on many of the bathrooms the Master bathroom being in the photos.
