"Sandy Garden" cottage is a recently built, 1600 sq. ft., three bedroom, two bathroom cottage on the Neuse River in New Bern, North Carolina. The cottage is set right in the middle of a lovely perennial garden. You can sit on the screened porch and watch the seagulls, pelicans, geese, and ducks, or the waterman pulling up his crab pots. The great room is light and airy and feels very tranquil with it's shades of blue and white. Two of the three bedrooms face the river and so you can feel the river breezes while laying in bed watching the seagulls.
New Bern is a beautiful, historic, small town. There are all of the historic sights, as well as, the natural beauty of the area. "Sandy Garden" brings the two together in harmony. The cottage is located right on the Neuse with abundant wildlife at your sandy shoreline. And the Neuse is a natural for boating and fishing. Just across the river is the town itself with its many interesting destinations including The Tryon Palace, museums, restaurants, a theatre, and shopping.
As if there were not enough to do in New Bern itself, the ocean and beaches are less than an hour away, and the quaint waterfront towns of Beaufort and Morehead City are even closer. The Croatan National Forest, is just outside of New Bern and, offers hiking and nature observing. So come see for yourself what "Sandy Garden" and New Bern have to offer!
We do ask that you leave your cigarettes outside. And remember to bring your own bed linens, unless you'd like to use and wash ours. (We provide pillows, comforters, quilts, towels, beach towels, kitchen towels, and sheets. But if you use our sheets and towels you need to wash, fold, and put them away before you leave!)

We follow the practice of the coastal area - 50% to hold the reservation and the

You can provide your own linens or use ours (but they must be cleaned).

Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2004
Nick and Missy moved to New Bern, NC in 1988. Nick was originally born in England and led a very interesting life in many different countries. Missy was born in Md but always loved the southeast. After graduating from the Univ. of MD in 1983 we moved to Florida together. In 1988 we decided to sell everything and live on our sailboat, cruise the Bahamas and Florida, and then cruise up the East Coast. We got to NC and haven't left.
Why the Owner Chose New Bern
We live in New Bern and saw that it had so much to offer visitors. There were hotels in the area but very very few vacation rentals. We prefer to stay in a home when we travel and so assumed others would as well. So we built Sandy Garden Cottage in 2004. And our wonderful guests have loved it here as much as we have!
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
Our guests can see the amazing sunsets over the river and over the New Bern City skyline each evening. We have a sandy beach in front of the cottage that kids (young and old :-) just love. There is swimming, fishing, crabbing, shark tooth hunting, canoeing and kayaking (we have boats for our guests), biking. Nick is also a charter captain and loves taking guests out motoring around the rivers and creeks on our 24' boat "Shallow Minded".

Good morning Missy! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sandy Garden Cottage. All of us were so excited to see such a clean, bright and airy place to stay and we already have started planning on coming back. In addition, we were blown away with the water view. We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it was better than we expected. It was very beautiful and quiet and we had a great time. We would definetely come back again and are planning on doing that. Thanks Missy for the jumper cables you provided to get our car started. We loved it!!!

Hi Missy! We can't express who much we enjoyed Sandy Gardens! I love it when a place is "better than expected." It was perfect for our gathering in New Bern!! We loved having coffee overlooking the Neuse River in the mornings and sipping wine with the sunset! You certainly have a gem of a place. Mark and I had a fun canoe ride (almost to the other bank) on a calm afternoon. We loved walking and meeting neighbors and friendly dogs! Sorry we never met as we decided to head home one day earlier to break up the long journey home. Hope you found the cottage in good shape as we tried to care for it as you do. I am sure you will see the Kramer family again! Thank you again for sharing your piece of paradise! ps- We really loved all your cute touches in the house. Martha Stewart could take some pointers! Also, the jigsaw puzzle took us 2 days to complete!

Missy, This weekend was so much fun! The house is wonderful (especially the couches, they are beyond comfortable :-) We had a wonderful time in New Bern and also taking pictures of the sunset here! You have the most perfect swing hanging by the river. Hope to visit again in warmer weather!

Thank you for providing a friendly and comfortable "home away from home" as we joined together with our friends to renew our bodies and souls with rest and tons of laughs. New Bern offerred us historical perspective and we enjoyed this charming town on the trolley tour. The views are beautiful - the porch adds to the genteel atmosphere and all of us are grateful for the opportunity to explore this beautiful area of NC. We had a wonderful time despite Tropical Storm Ernesto! The rainy/windy weather did not matter at all as we enjoyed your cheery cottage. The weather actually forced us to slow down and, as you porch sign reads, relax, relax, relax. I finished a book in two doays and can't remember the last time I did that! And Barry loved being able to sit and chill. Thanks again for sharing your lovely cottage with us. We look forward to visiting again!
