Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: We have lived in Northern Virginia for 35 years. Onancock is our weekend getaway. We spent nearly 10 years (of weekends) renovating the house after a fire. The house originally belonged to the historic Cokesbury Church and was the home of the minister. We got caught up in the story and decided to renovate instead of tearing it down. It contains the original heart pine floors in the master bedroom and the beams on the main floor are original. We filled it with some our favorite things, some antiques, some new furniture and just love coming here.
Why the Owner Chose Onancock: It is a wonderful getaway where you can let your hair down and relax! We love to cycle, kayak and boat so this was the perfect place for us.
The Unique Benefits at this House: You can sit on the front porch in a rocking chair and watch the fishing boats go up and down the creek while you drink your morning coffee or afternoon cocktail. Whether you are a friend or a stranger, neighbors wave as they walk by. In the summer, you can buy fresh fish right across the street. There is also a farmer's market on Saturdays where you can purchase fresh picked produce. We love that the restaurants are only steps away. The sunsets are beautiful sitting on the deck at Mallards Restaurant.
