Great, Spacious Country Home
Great, Spacious Country Home
Our family had a wonderful time at the Valley Mills house over Labor Day weekend! I can't remember a time in recent history when we had so much space to spread out and such a comfortable place to laugh and spend time together. The home is truly great with plenty of space. Each couple was able to have their own room and there was ample kitchen space for us all to get in the kitchen and cook together...not to mention two huge tables to accomodate all 11 (and 13 at one meal) of us together at meal time. We were very thankful for the homeowner and the couple who manage the property. They were immensely helpful during our stay at the home and worked hard to make us comfortable. And, of course, the kids staying with us loved the new barn cat addition to the property. He's now named Coffee as far as they are concerned! If we're in the area again, we'd certainly want to stay again.

Junior Golf Trip
Junior Golf Trip
We arrived in the middle of the night on June 9th. I had two adults and 7 junior golfers staying for the Starburst Invitational golf tournament. The property was extremely hot because one of the AC units was broken. We were greeted by a gentlemen that proceeded to tell us about the house and the property. He also told us the AC units were going to be looked at that afternoon. Later that night one of the juniors found a scorpion in there room. The next day we left at the crack of dawn to play golf. When we returned to the house latter that day around 3 pm to go for a swim, the pool looked like a giant milk scum had been sitting on the surface for weeks, plus tons of bugs in the pool. As we lounged around the ranch house waiting for the AC units to be fixed, we found water coming out of the walls and sewage backing up into the bathroom toilet and tub. After calling the owners daughter and her boyfriend about the leakage, we decided it was time to move to a hotel. I would not recommend this place to anyone!! If you are going to rent your property to people, it should be cleaned from top to bottom prior to your guests arrival and all appliances should be in working order!! The pool was extremely dirty, so don't believe the pictures you see on the website. Plus there should be some type of refund for this rental!!

Owner response: Let me begin by writing, Thank You. I appreciate your taking time to post a note about my country resort. Your post is actually quite helpful in that it will help others realize this is not the city. It is the country where wildlife and nature know no boundaries. It is not uncommon that insects (beetles, spiders, and such) might find their way into the house. And after the storm that passed a day before your arrival, well, they were more abundant than normal. As to the AC, the circumstances of your experience were based on elements beyond my control. A severe storm passed through the area and fried one of the three central A/C units the day before you arrived which affected one small area of the house. (The majority of the house was cool and some of your guests used blankets!) When we set the AC for you, we noticed one of the units was not working. I contacted an AC tech for repair. Unfortunately, the repair required an ordered part and took another day. The home has three Central AC systems. So clearly the vast majority of the home was still cool and there were enough beds outside of area impacted. The bathrooms were in working order prior to your visit. Once you let me know something was wrong, a plumber was sent out immediately. This is not something that had ever happened before. The plumber found a towel in one of the lines! I have no idea how a towel was flushed but the plumber did clear the drain and all was in working order. As to the pool condition, I don’t know what you are talking about. If you read further, the next tenants enjoyed the pool. I kept you posted on status and repairs and even offered a cash remedy for a part of the stay. You chose not to return, although the repairs were made quickly. A few days after your rental period another group rented my country home. You’ll note they rated my place with 5 Stars! Your review reminds folks that things can happen anywhere. My hope is that they note how quickly I responded to get everything in working order. I also hope others will realize this is not a City property, but rather, a Country home where you are more likely to see bugs, insects, and wildlife. The home is comfortable, with three central AC systems, working plumbing and normal appliances. And the home is in the country where you can find bugs, snakes, possums and the like. For those who love the country, this is the place for you. For those who prefer the city, this is not likely to be for you.
This is a great spot to relax and grill out by the pool and just enjoy time with friends as we did this past weekend. The Property has anything and everything you can think of to make your stay perfect. Tons of room and very comfortable. After spending the weekend here we want to have our wedding here, the setting is so comfortable and beautiful. We will positivly be back again as it was a weekend that we wont soon forget. Great property, I will recommend it to anyone!!!!

About the owner: I grew up in Austin, TX and graduated from UT Austin as a Petroleum Engineer. This home represents many happy memories – large family reunions, friends lounging by the pool, BBQ weekends, and peaceful evenings gazing at stars while warming by an open fire pit. There is nothing quite like the country air and a dose of Mother Nature to bring about a sense of peace and well-being. The landscape has much to view of Texas Hill Country. Some are even intrigued by nearby President Bush’s “Western” White House.
