Winneconne house description
*This is a good place to hunker down, relax, enjoy the scenic setting, and let the world go on by for a bit.
*Or, you could use it as a base to tour Eastern Wisconsin: Door County, Manitowoc Naval museum, the North woods, the Packers, the lakes (Great and otherwise), and a myriad of State Parks & hiking trails. Experience the pastoral farm lands and taste the state's rich ethnic European diversity.
*Or you could attend the world famous annual EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) fly-in or one of the numerous music or cultural fests in the immediate area.
*Personally though, we hope you give the first choice a try. This modern 3-bedroom, 1 1/2 bath home is set on 5 acres of moderately wooded land. Out the back door you'll find a pleasant multi-level bricked patio, with a hidden-garden quality. The path to the right passes under a trellis of trumpet vines to a tree-lined sidewalk, while a left turn on the winding path takes you thru a gated, free-standing rock wall, along a lesser rock wall, and past Kaida the protective dragon, into and thru a vegetated rock garden. Further on is a Sumac grove, and woods beyond.
*Exit the side patio doors onto a deck and pergula. Check for birds or critters by the pond -- perhaps hiding in the cattails -- then stroll down the board walk, across a small (very small) sand beach, and out to the end of the pier. Watch for the green heron. Return and go under the grape vine arbor tunnel made of railway ties.
*Continue to the wooden beam bridge and the hidden tree fort. If you find it, climb up, look around (some have even been known to sleep out there). Venture onto the swinging bridge that leads to the 'Crows Nest' platform (1). Your kids might imagine themselves pirates (or great explorers).
*When you -- err, I mean your kids -- tire of being pirates, climb back down and continue thru the pine grove and back across a lessor bridge. The path to the left leads up a small hill overlooking the pond (think sledding & skating) and back down over another bridge -- to yet more trails that lead to a smaller pond and prairie flower-strewn, crescent-shaped hill; while the other path taken snakes thru the brush and trees, by hazelnut cove, and opens past the rhubarb patch into a clearing and a 126 year old, partially restored, one-room school house (ask for the key and check it out). We'll let you discover for yourselves where the other trails go. (1)Tree fort, etc, were built with safety in mind.

Excellent property close to EAA Oshkosh
Excellent property close to EAA Oshkosh
Great stay. Super quiet location, property very well kept both within the home and the grounds. All the comforts of our home in Phoenix. Interesting spriral staircase to the main bedrooms upstairs. I only have great things to say about this property, so I will just say not to hesitate with this one. Owners were great to answer questions and fast to respond. You won't be disappointed!!

An idyllic retreat
An idyllic retreat
We can only echo the comments made by others. After hectic days at the EAA in Oshkosh, we looked forward to returning to this peaceful retreat. The home is well stocked, very clean and comfortable and the grounds are absolutely spectacular. The owners have gone to a lot of effort to make an interesting place for children (and children at heart) to explore and enjoy. We also enjoyed touring the back roads and local sites including the Historical Society's museum complex in Winneconne and the Paine Art Centre and Gardens in Oshkosh. An excellent vacation!

This place was simply beautiful. The pictures do not even do this property justice. The property was very well kept and it was over beyond our expectations. It was very peaceful and relaxing which is what we were looking for. The yard and landscaping was so peaceful, it was really nice to take a book outside and just soak it all in. I even took my laptop outside on the back patio to do some homework and the WIFI worked great! The house itself was very well kept as well and all the necessities were already there. This was very nice so we did not have to pack up our entire kitchen and bathroom to take with us. My husband and I, two young sons (ages 6 and 10) and 3 of our best friends all really enjoyed the stay. The kids loved playing outside on the tire swing and in the sandbox. We tried to fish in the pond, but the owners had already informed us they were not sure if there were any fish in it. We didn't catch anything but it was still relaxing being out on the dock. We all loved the school house too. It was very neat looking at the history from the area. This place was within perfect distance to several different places such as the local town, lakes for boating, fishing, golfing and we even found a small zoo and another small farm with petting zoo within reasonable driving distance. We were thankful that the two bedrooms had air conditioning. The first two days we were there it was extremely hot so having the air conditioning in the bedrooms definitely helped us sleep better. The basement stayed cool the entire time and the kids just slept down there. We are already planning another trip. This place was perfect for everyone. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We did not need to contact them for the entire time we were there because they had left a nice binder with answers to everything you could think of. Absolutely LOVED this vacation!

Perfect rental for families
Perfect rental for families
Our family of two parents and one 5 year old met our son's grandma here for a week's vacation. The pond is fantastic, full of life, and the frogs sing you to sleep at night. Around every corner on the property is another treasure to enchant children of all interests and entertain all family members. Winneconne is a sweet small town, and from this house you are in easy driving distance to Oshkosh and Appleton. It might be helpful to know that the two bedrooms with king size beds do not have much separation from one another - great for parents and kids to be close but not perfect for the extended family who want privacy. The single bed does have great privacy though, and the owners offer air mattresses that can be arranged in other rooms with privacy, especially the classic Wisconsin basement game room. We hope to come back another time, and would encourage any family or others seeking retreat space to rent this home.

Why the Owner Chose Winneconne:
We have spent 27 years improving this corner of the world. We like it. Our kids liked it (they're all grown now). Maybe you will like it too.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
*See the other sections, but in the summertime, back road or Wiouwash Trail bicycle riding is fun, and come wintertime I try to keep a 4 mile, or so, X-country ski trail broken -- stating right from the front door. * Of further local interest might be the Larson brother's air strip, the first in the state, near Winchester; the well-hidden Indian mounds overlooking Lake Winneconne; or in season, fresh apples you can pick from our small orchard.
