Great weekend getaway! Exceeded my expectations and pet friendly too!
Great weekend getaway! Exceeded my expectations and pet friendly too!
I was looking for a family and pet friendly weekend getaway for my family to just relax by the fire, go for walks, enjoy a hot tub and this house (and location) really exceeded my expectations! We stayed for a weekend in early May and I can't remember the last time I was able to relax so completely. We were a group of 6 adults, 3 teens and our pet lab, the house was so spacious we could really spread out and breathe. The kitchen has lots of room for everyone to join and help and the huge dining table with high window and lake view was a dream! The house was absolutely lovely with wood touches and high ceilings. With a roaring wood fire at night, it was a perfect country home experience. I enjoyed taking a walk in the morning, the house is very privately located and you can go for walks down the quiet country roads. I was able to let my lab go with no issues, there are no back and forth cars to worry about at all. The house was very clean and very well maintained. The photos are very accurate and really shows the house exactly the way it is. The owners were really helpful in facilitating a great stay for us, even meeting us to check us in and making sure we were nicely settled in. We really appreciated this. The house has free long distance so my daughter could even call her friends in the evening. And the wifi was of course appreciated by all. We came too early in the season to go swimming, but we'll definitely try and come back, perhaps next summer for some lake fun! Many thanks!

Nice house but not worth the stress and troubles that came with it.
Nice house but not worth the stress and troubles that came with it.
The property is located somewhat off the beaten path and wasn't easy to find, but once we made it there the house and grounds were very nice. There is ample space indoors and plenty of space outdoors. Everything in the house seemed to be in proper working condition, and the place was neatly kept. However, the BBQ and hot tub are small considering the size of the property and how many people it can accommodate. The problem with this listing isn't with property, it's with the owners. We were a group of guys staying there, and we made more noise than what was acceptable (which we readily admit to). We received a phone call from the owners, and were calmly asked to quiet down. This request was very reasonable, and we promptly alerted our group to all come indoors and to keep the volume low. We received no other phone calls past this point, and assumed that our corrective actions were sufficient. The next morning, the owners, bringing along their children, friends, and pet dog, arrived at the house without warning. They barged in and immediately began to yell at us and accuse us of having destroyed their property and disturbed all their neighbors. They used profanities while talking to us, humiliated us in front of the people they brought, and made no effort to be reasonable when dealing with the situation. We, on the other hand, made sure to speak calmly and respectfully, and attempted to diffuse the situation. They brought along a woman who they claimed was a neighbor, who simply repeated much of what they said. They proceeded with a quick inspection of the property and when they realized there was absolutely nothing wrong, demanded we answer their questions and provide identification. They made us feel like criminals, and so we didn’t comply. At some point during this time we were told the police had been called and that we were being evicted. We gathered our belongings to leave, but the owners blocked the driveway with their truck and detained us illegally. We asked them several times to release us, and when they wouldn’t, we called the police. After 30 minutes, and before the police could arrive, they moved their truck and allowed us to leave. We were deprived of about 4 hours time we paid for, and we suffered an unacceptable amount of stress for what seems to have been a simple noise complaint. I encourage anyone considering this property to AVOID THE TROUBLE AND AVOID THE PROBLEMS.

Owner response: This was the kind of rental experience that would make any property owner cringe. These 8 or so young men had taken the boats into the middle of the lake and were drunkenly screaming non-stop, in the boats, disturbing the whole lake until 2 am and beyond. Starting at midnight, the calls started coming in from lake residents. We then called these boys at the cottage, and they promised the screaming would end. They seemed so polite and cooperative, that I decided to give them a second chance. Well, it didn't end. Only the next morning were we informed by several lake residents (some up to 1 mile away), that the drunken screaming continued into the night, and was still continuing all morning too. My neighbour held up the phone toward the lake so that we could actually hear the screaming through the phone at 9:30 am, and this neighbour is a good distance from my house (through a thick forest etc). They called these boys “savages” and suggested we better come to see the condition of the house. I quickly packed up my family and went to the house. We entered at about noon to find the wood floor throughout the house absolutely flooded with water from the lake, the spa, etc. They had drenched wet clothes on and just walked throughout the house over and over with no regard for the house, even while we were there. Garbage was everywhere, they even had a “beer bong” wrapped and taped to my maple railing on the second floor. Sticky beer and drink splatters all over the walls everywhere. It was a classic frat style party. Yes, we evicted them, yes, we had to call the police. Yes, we had to clean up their mess. This was the 2nd time in 16 years of renting cottages that I have had to call the police to have people removed. It was a extremely trying experience with a very arrogant and indignant group of young men. I very much doubt this is the first cottage they have done this to, they seemed very practiced. Luckily this type of rental is few and far between. We have met so many wonderful people over the years that have more than made up for this type of experience.

Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: My husband and myself have been renting lakefront cottages in the Laurentians mountains of Quebec since 1997, for 16 years! We started with one, our own, and to help make payments on it, we decided to rent it occasionally. Well, it became so popular that we barely had time there for ourselves! And this was before the internet was a household word, we didn't even have a computer or a website! But word got out nonetheless, and we bought another cottage since things seemed to be doing well, and so it went, we are now up to 8 lakefront cottages - and our website is www.cottagevacation.com . In the meantime, we 'grew up', had 2 wonderful children, and 16 years later we own and manage our lakefront cottages full time and are currently building another. I didn't start out in life thinking I would rent cottages for a living, I have a Masters of Science in Biochemistry and my husband previously owned a bakery. But since having my children, I have appreciated the flexibility of a schedule that allows me to stay home for them.
Why the Owner Chose Mont Tremblant:
The property was custom built for us in 2011. We have 2 other cottages on this same lake and we love the peacefulness and serenity of this area. The Laurentians is a very popular tourist destination, but we pride ourselves on having a location that is quiet, forested and peaceful, always lakefront and always only 15 minutes to 'civilization'. And last but not least, always pet friendly. After 16 years of renting cottages on lakes, we have learned what families and groups desire in a home and property, and we have done our best to try and provide it. There are snowmobile trails in the winter (not to worry, you don't see or hear them), and those trails in the summer become the most magnificent forest walking trails, right from our doorstep - miles and miles of beautiful trails! Even our main road is so quiet it is like a trail itself (it is a dead end road that ends at a beautiful lake!).
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Another wonderful aspect to this house is nighttime. I know many country houses claim to have great starlight, but I own 8 houses and while it's pretty good everywhere, there is nothing like this lake. It is at a higher elevation in the mountains than other areas, there is absolutely no light pollution. The stars just twinkle, especially on a winter's night in the hot tub. Another unique feature is our location. I have lived and worked throughout the Laurentians and there are beautiful places throughout, but it is often hard to find a place this close to Montreal that offers a real lakefront peaceful setting without noise, traffic or tourists in your immediate area. But yet, there is still a Wal Mart or fine dining within a 15 minute drive from our location. It is really the best of both worlds.
