One of the bedrooms - Beijing, China - Vacation Condo Rental - Better Than a Hotel This quiet, clean and safe, fully furnished Condo is located within the University area of Beijing Haidian region, away from the noise and congestion of the central city. The Haidian region is the academic/scientific/technological center of Beijing. The location is about a five minute drive to the Olympic Village for the 2008 Games. It offers two bedrooms - one with king-bed, one with a queen, a living room area, modern bath, fully equipped kitchen with cooking and eating utensils, and enclosed balcony. Amenities include work area with desk, a computer with DSL internet connection, telephone, a purified water dispenser, air conditioning/heat, flat screen TV, and clothes washer. Clean linens and towels are provided upon your arrival. Please understand that this is a private house, not a hotel, so housekeeping during your stay is on your own. This is a non-smoking unit. Maximum number of guests is three. This rental package is unique in its emphasis on personal service to make your trip a memorable one. We include in the rental the services of a guide/driver/translator who is fully bilingual in Chinese-English, and is on call for twelve contiguous hours daily to assist in making your trip comfortable, educational, and enjoyable. Your guide, who is a life-long resident of Beijing, will pick you up at the airport upon your arrival, drive you to the condo, and return you to the airport for your departure. During your stay, your guide is able to pick you up at the Condo each day, drive you to destinations in the greater Beijing area that are of interest to you, according to your planned itinerary, and return you to the Condo at the end of the day. He will be pleased to either accompany you during your activities, or drop you off at your destination to proceed on your own, if that is your preference. Unlike organized tours, you will not be taken anywhere you don’t choose to go, and you can plan activities and stops at your own pace. You will not need to use taxis, buses, or tours during your stay. You will be provided a cell phone for limited use within Beijing during your stay. Beijing guide books and maps are available in the condo, and your guide will be happy to help you plan your itinerary should you wish. Among the areas he can take you to are: the Forbidden City, Tiananimen Square, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, Imperial Garden and Parks, Military Museum, Mao’s Mausoleum, Beijing Zoo, Beijing Opera, Museum of Chinese History, the many shopping streets, including a huge and modern department store, the Badaling Great Wall, Ming Tombs, and antique flea markets. Your guide can also take you to local food markets where you can purchase food items for your in-house meals. The cost of any admission charges and meals are not included. Included for your convenience will be a prepaid phone card with access codes for calling back to the US. This combination of residence, amenities, and personalized service are sure to provide the first-time or repeat visitor to China a relaxing stay and memorable experience. Unlike any other property I know of on VRBO.com, this condo comes with a car, driver, and bilingual tour guide! Dinglian (Ding) and her husband Liupei were available throughout our stay to be sure we had a wonderful time experiencing the marvels of ancient China, the massive ongoing modernization of the city, and the ample shopping opportunities. By the time we left we felt we had known them forever and considered them good friends. This residence offers the guest the opportunity to live like a local. It is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, not a resort. While there are a large number of apartment buildings nearby there was little if any noise, particularly during the evening and night hours. It was hard to believe we were in a city of 11 million people, that is until we got into rush hour traffic...grin. Ding and Liupei know all the local restaurants and grocery markets so you can expect to eat very well and inexpensively while in Beijing. We did, however have the pleasure of taking them to the Hard Rock Café for their first time. They liked the burgers but thought they were expensive...they were. Highlights of the trip were visiting the Forbidden City, Tian'anmen Square, the Ming Tombs, and climbing the Great Wall, 25 miles outside the city. Each of these places were magical and the memories will last a lifetime. It was very easy to visit all these sites during our short stay since we had our own driver and guide and didn't have to rely on being with a large group and following their schedule.
