The house which is available for a minimum of one week, (in August it is a minimum of 2 weeks) is a classical Provencal Mas which sleeps nine, a farmhouse with a history dating back to the Roman era. Now an airy, tranquil, 4 bedroom, comfortable home in the hills between the Petit Luberon and Grand Luberon Mountains, it lies in it's own peaceful eleven acres of almond trees, truffle oaks and gentle rolling garrigue set in open countryside. The house has been sympathetically renovated to a high standard and is spacious and well equipped. Outside, the lawned gardens are on two levels. The lower, with a large south-facing terrace covered in fruiting vines, is ideal for sun bathing, al fresco eating and generally lazing in the perfumed Provencal air. The upper, which is gated to meet the current pool safety regulations and affords discreet protection for families with children, has a large swimming pool (17m x 6m) surrounded by lawns, a well-stocked shrub garden and old farm buildings. There is ample pool and garden furniture and a Weber barbecue. The house has WiFi, internet, satellite TV, DVD, phone etc.

Located in the national parc at the axis of the Grande and Petit Luberon mountain ranges. Equidistant from the beautiful cities Aix-en-Provence and Avignon and close to the Luberon villages of Menerbes, Gordes, Goult, Roussilon, Bonnieux, Boux, Saignon and Ansouis.
Year Purchased: 1990
About the owner: I am a retired film producer, now a photographer living and working in London.
Why the Owner Chose Bonnieux: La Teyssière lies at the very heart of the French department of Vaucluse, one of the smallest departments in France; some might argue that it is also one of the most beautiful and alluring. The house is situated in the Luberon National Park, now a designated Unesco World “Man and Biosphere” Reserve Region, a region blessed with the soft climate typical of the Mediterranean. It is bordered by the Luberon Vally to the North, the Rhone Valley to the West, the Durance Valley to the South, and the Alpine foothills to the East. The area has a contrasted relief (plains, gorges, plateaus, cliffs...)and a diversified river system. All these factors give rise to a wide diversity of microclimates and habitats.
With its varied countryside where lavender fields, vineyards, ochre and red-tinted hills predominate, this area has always attracted visitors but it is still possible to leave the crowds behind and explore its wonders in the tranquility of its hill-top towns & villages, its spectacular valleys, mountains, paths and rivers, its beautiful olive groves and cherry-orchards, its fields of cypress, sunflowers, and rosemary, the winding back roads and lanes and, most of all, via its breathtaking views.
Steeped in a fascinating history from the prehistoric to the modern day via the Roman Empire, the Papal wars, the Resistance Movement of WW11 and much, much more, Vaucluse continues to haunt and fascinate its visitors with the wonders of its unique flora and fauna, its cuisine, the glory of its fresh produce and its superlative wines from the Cotes du Rhone, Cotes du Ventoux, and Cotes du Luberon.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse: If………….. you can handle waking up to a soft Mediterranean sun rising behind the nearby Luberon Mountain range before easing your way down a flight of ancient steps across a lawn to a large swimming pool where the call of bee eaters, the sight of a soaring eagle and the aroma of Provence are the biggest test your senses will face all morning, then La Teyssiere might just a place to awaken.
If a warm shower in a limestone bathroom chased by a breakfast of Carpentras melon, freshly baked croissants and rich, black coffee downed in the shade of a Tamarind tree, in a world in which the warm air is only occasionally disturbed by a gentle perfumed breeze, in a garden where only natural sounds prevail, is of any appeal to you then La Teyssiere could be a place to kick-start your day.
If the difficult choice of your most challenging activity lies between lying back on a comfortable chaise immersed in the book you’d promised yourself you would read, and immersing yourself in a refreshing pool when the temperature was more than you could bear and then deciding whether a glass of local organically produced vin rosé was a better option than its white cousin, then this could find its way onto your list of places to spend a morning.
If watching the fading sunlight effortlessly ease the easterly mountain view into silhouette as the moon rises and you amble through as many courses of dinner as you can muster before turning to candlelit conversation under stars you never dream you’d ever see is your idea of how to spend an evening which ends to the sound of cicadas and scoop owls, then trawl through this website……………you might just be on to something when considering where to spend a summer week or two!
