Exactly what you picture when think of Sonoma
Exactly what you picture when think of Sonoma
The Chez Marie was gorgeous, clean, smelled great, and the food provided was plentiful, fresh, and delicious. The garden is beautiful with lots of places to sit outside and relax and Tessie, her dog, was a delight to be around. For those of you who are not dog people, do not let the fact that there is a dog on the grounds deter you from staying there. Tessie only came by us when we summoned her, and we heard her bark once for maybe 2 seconds. The neighborhood was pretty, quiet, safe, and definitely walking distance to the plaza. The only thing that I will say is that you are looking for a lot of privacy, you may want to look elsewhere. While we never felt that Maria was imposing on our privacy, there were times when you could hear her doing dishes, etc. However, this never bothered us and we would definitely stay there again, but I just think it is worth mentioning.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your review. I am delighted that your stay at Chez Marie was exactly as you imagined a Sonoma experience should be! I know out-of-town guests really care about how close their accommodations are to the Plaza because walking around, seeing things close up like the beautiful landscapes of the neighborhood, enhance the Sonoma feeling. You were wonderful guests to host. Please come back again!

A Delightful Stay
I cannot even begin to tell you what a delightful and fun time we had staying with Marie! Her "guest suite" is beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and so inviting and comfortable. The garden is equally as lovely! We were fortunate enough to even enjoy a delightful evening of dinner and terrific conversation with Marie! First, she is a divine chef and second she is one of the most gracious hostesses ever. I can not wait to downlaod her Russian cookbook, so enjoyed exploring all of the history and heritage with her! If you are looking for something different than a typical hotel stay or more intimate than a bread and breakfast, yet way more cost efficient, you must consider Chez Marie! The location is perfect to everything, even great for scenic morning runs all through the town, our room had everything we would expect and more. Fresh breakfasts, drinks, flowers, linens, and several other small details that made it so perfect! The entrance is totally separate and you don't have to worry about parking or ridiculous resort fees. It was so worth it and we will definitely refer others and consider staying there again when we come back.

It is a garden paradise....
I was completely blown away and loved my experience @ Chez Marie! It was more than I could've asked for. The space was large & adorable with everything you could need, and the yard & garden are so beautiful & relaxing. I enjoyed my morning Sanchat coffee on the patio every morning and had great conversations with Maria. I also had a canine companion, Tessie. I learned a lot about historical Russian influence on Californian & San Franciscan culture through Maria. Be sure to read through the cookbook of family Russian dishes she's published - it includes some great personal touches beyond just recipes. Cherries and homemade lemonade came right from her garden, and the local strawberries she set out were some of the best I've had. Great location: Quiet residential street; only a short walk (12-15 minutes) to Sonoma Plaza. It was really hard to leave Sonoma after this experience. I won't stay anywhere else when I return. Thanks Maria! June 2013

A Magical Place
Chez Marie is a magical place! You'll feel it as you walk into the private entrance as you are inundated with the smells of the fresh flowers in the garden. Maria took care of every little detail that we could imagine and could not have been a more informative host. Her knowledge of the area made us feel as if we were locals. The house itself is gorgeous and the garden is truly a slice of heaven. The location is very convenient (about a 4 minute drive to the town center) and price is a bargain for everything you will experience. We highly recommend this and hope to see Maria again in the future. May 2013

Lucky me!Guest comment entered by owner
Lucky me! - I am a friend and have been fortunate to be invited to stay Chez Maria many times. I know i have arrived when i catch the amazing smell of her garden as i approach the door. It welcomes and surrounds you throughout your stay. Maybe you will receive a taste of one of her culinary experiments, maybe she'll cut you a flower. She is such a natural at hosting, you will leave relaxed and restored, and maybe a bit inspired. Among so many talents and qualities, she is also writer, currently chronicling heirloom recipes and bits of her Russiam family history, and a certified Feng Shui Master. Enjoy your visit!

About the owner: I have lived in Sonoma for over since 2000 and absolutely love the warm and friendly community that it is. I am a San Francisco native, who has traveled all over the world, and has made friends from the mountains of Nepal to the south seas of Tahiti. I am interested in all cultures, their traditions, foods, and music. Professionally, I specialize in healthcare marketing, sales and account management. I have written two memoir-cookbooks books currently on Amazon and am presently editing a third, all part of The Lobanovsky Family Table E-series. With a focus on Russian American culture, I write a weekly blog to highlight news that is off the beaten track, or little known facts that link America and Russia. I have planned events of all kinds for both personal and public celebrations. I offer concierge services to guests wishing to get the most out of their Sonoma visit. My goal is to make your stay as memorable and enjoyable as possible, not only in my home but in the wine country at large.
Why the Owner Chose Sonoma:
This property offers privacy, the natural, serene beauty of an established, park-like garden, yet is 10 minutes away by foot (even less by car) from many amenities and services that Sonoma offers. While parking is available at your gate, you don't need a car to take advantage of anything around the Sonoma plaza, the theater, world-class restaurants, wine tasting room, and wineries. In short: convenience, tranquility, beauty and comfort at a luxury location.
