- Overgaard, Arizona is located high (6,600 feet) on the Mogollon Rim in the Sitgreaves National Forest of Northeastern Arizona. Set amongst the largest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the world, Overgaard offers a unique mountain experience that is as different as night from day from the Phoenix Valley floor! With daytime temperatures in the mid-80s during the summer months, Overgaard provides a cool respite from the intense heat of the desert. During the winter months, you'll often find snow on the ground, making for a nice change of scenery. Overgaard is located an easy two and-a-half hours from Phoenix, one hour from Payson off HWY #260. Overgaard while small does offer several restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and other shops to visit, as well as two small grocery stores. Willow Springs and Woods Canyon recreation areas are only 20 minutes away. Outdoor activities include hiking, biking, and fishing. Within 30 minutes of Heber/Overgaard there are five recreational fishing lakes, and over 15 different hiking trails that range from easy to difficult. For snow skiing, Sunrise Ski Resort is only an hour drive away, just east of Show Low, Arizona. Hon-Dah Resort Casino near Pinetop/Lakeside or the Mazatzal Casino in Payson, Arizona are other options. During the summer, Bison Ranch also offers horseback riding stables for the public. The White Mountain communities host several festivals and craft shows throughout the year. ...moreless

Had a wonderful girls getaway. Wonderful accommodations, beautiful decor and well supplied. The pull out couch mattress dips in the middle so be prepared to become great bosom buddies.LOL other than that the place was wonderful.

Fun Fall Getaway!
Fun Fall Getaway!
Thank you Vicki for a terrific stay at your comfortable cabin. My husband and I enjoyed fishing at Willow Springs Lake and exploring Show Low, Heber and Overgaard. Your home was clean and very well equipped with EVERYTHING you'd need for a day, week or longer. We were very impressed when the refrigerator stopped working, you had it replaced the next day! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend your place to friends and would love to stay again if we're ever in the area. We use VRBO all the time because of the great service and awesome value for lodging when we travel. Your place was no exception. It was priced VERY reasonably and well located for lots of high-county family fun.

Although our stay was short, it was wery nice. Perfect for the wedding we attended at Bison Ranch. My wife loved the warm wool blankets. We had our kids come over and watch movies with us. They were very impressed with the decorations. We will use again. Thank You.

Wanted to stay longer!
This cabin is charming, beautifully decorated and oh, so comfortable! We were looking to explore the area as a future retirement spot, and, a mini-vacation. So relaxing to sit out front near the fire pit with a glass of wine, or at the outdoor table with morning coffee, enjoying the fresh mountain air and the total peace and quiet. Nothing compares to tall pines and wildflowers. We so appreciated the pet friendly accommodations! Everything was provided; linens, full kitchen, fridge, laundry, movies, board games... you name it! Just bring food! We would definitely stay again. The owners were charming and down to earth as well. I can't say enough good things about our stay. Thank you, to "The Roost"!

The property was exactly as pictured. It was comfortably furnished and had clever woodsy decor. There were lots of dishes, utensils and appliances to make cooking easy. We especially enjoyed the front patio area and the fire pit. The Red Onion is a must for dining. Mama Santea's bakery is excellent. We loved the donuts and the bread. We also went to Charlie Clark's Steakhouse in Pinetop. Riding the ski lift at Sunrise Ski Resort was great as were the Apache Hamburgers served on fry bread. I highly recommend this location for a fun place to escape the heat.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your review. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed some of the amenities the White Mountains have to offer. It was a pleasure having you stay at the Roost, and we look forward to seeing you again.
Let me start off by saying this is a very nice cabin but, it does have some flaws. First off, the pictures of the cabin give the impression it is located in a forested type of environment when, in fact, it is in a neighborhood subdivision. Your next door neighbors are literally steps away from your back door. There are also a couple of structural items that need to be addressed such as the house is leaning and that makes it hard to secure the doors properly. I was very concerned about the fact that two of the three doors that lead in to the house work properly if muscled in to performing. Good thing my husband was there or I would have never gotten the back door closed. Also, the stairs leading to the second floor do not have an even rise to them. We tripped more than once going up and down the stairs. The inside of the house is decorated nicely and we were very pleased with the lighting from the skylights. It was a little warm during the day but I understand we're going through a heat wave at this time in Arizona. It would have been nice if the owner would have installed at least a small window unit upstairs and downstairs for times like this when summer temperatures up north are bordering the 90's. I have stayed at other VRBO properties and have always had the impression that condiments, paper products, and general cleaning items were on a "take a little, leave a little" basis. This was not the case here. There were no kitchen condiment type of items such as sugar, or extra salt or pepper. The coffee maker had the wrong kind of filters provided which really put me off because if you are providing a vacation rental kind of service, as the host/owner of the property, you would think one would know what kind of filters to provide for the coffee maker. There also were only 2 rolls of bathroom tissue provided and one roll of paper towels which meant we had to go to the store immediately to make sure we had the basic necessities at the house. Bathroom towels and blankets for the beds were plentiful but the odd thing was there were no extra sheets. This left me scratching my head on how a visitor would get fresh bed linens for an extended stay. In conclusion, if your vacation consists of this being a rest stop or a home base for other activities away from the cabin during the day then you may like this set up. I think the owner has good intentions in providing a very nice home and service but there is definitely room for improvement.

Charming vacation cabin
Charming vacation cabin
This is a charming vacation cabin. I have stayed on numerous occasions and love the homey touches throughout. The outdoor porches are perfect for relaxing with a book, visiting with friends, and enjoying the sounds of nature. It is an ideal place to get away from it all. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to enjoy the high country in Arizona.
