The Plantation Bungalow is located in the pleasant plantation community of Kalaimano Hgts on the Hamakua Coast, at the head of the 4 Mile Scenic Drive, just north of Historic Hilo town. The neighbors, mostly retired from the plantation are jewels and represent a rare aspect of Hawaaiian Heritage.
The Hamakua Coast offers unparalleled outdoor activities on the East side including nearby Akaka Falls, Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens, and beautiful hiking trails. We are located a short drive from Honoli'i Beach, one of the East Sides great surfing spots. This part of the coast is laced with streams, waterfalls and swimming holes, all against a backfrop of lush tropical vegetation. Volcanoes nation Park is a short 40 minute drive south, as is Waipio Valley & Waimea to the north, Kailua-Kona a 90 minute drive west. Hilo Town offers a unique blend of Old-Hawaii Plantation Style Carm and modern conveniences, abundant shopping and great restaurants. The Farmers Market is a must see. You will find a wonderful variety of handicrafts from all over the islands as well as all the wonderful local produce. The Lyman and Tsunami Museums in downtown Hilo are very interesting and well worth the visit. Plan to step back in time and relax as see Old Hawaii at its best.
